Ring the number on the text and they may be able to reschedule you straight away. A few people around here have been able to change their second vac to the local centre even though it wasn't officially announced.
You will probably have to go through the "Press 1 for this. Press 2 for that" headache though.

    Cheers
I did that but told to wait for the text now . Me own fault

Does anyone know are they doing 2nd jabs fairly promptly at Ballybrit? If you're due your 2nd 4 weeks after your first are the appointments actually 4 weeks or longer?

They are pretty much on track alright. I know three people who got Moderna on 7th June, and all three are getting the second jab on Monday.

Just be aware myself and two other people I know didn't receive a text for 2nd moderna shot.

Was wondering when my wife got text and I didn't so rang helpline and they had me registered, they told me day and time and I went and got jab no issue, but never got a text.

Looking for an antigen test centre in Galway that provides a travel cert.

I had assumed that Randox Galway did these until I went and tried to book it, they have PCR only.

    TIA

Somebody at That vaccination centre in Ballybrit know nothing about the importance of ventilation. There were about 60+ waiting in 1st tent ( which was quite a small tent) for about 20 minutes. Only one half door open at entrance with security man standing within 2m of those entering ( remember those immunised can stiill be infectious- not many know this) Double doors at other end firmly shut.( It was a dry day and not windy.) Could easily have picked up the highly infectious delta variant there ( which apparently is so infectious it can be transmitted merely brushing aside somebody momentarily- very worrying as I never wear a mask outside UNTIL NOW). The centre is so congested social distancing is minimal. Some security staff do not stay 2m apart.
Apart from that the clinical staff I encountered were quite professional and the lady at the entrance stiles with English accent was very friendly.

The virus is Caught by breathing in contaminated air. It's about time people realised this. It makes me laugh at how people intensely sanatize their hands but enter poorly ventilated buildings and totally ignore social distancing ( which let's face it few in Galway observe and can get quite angry if you politely ask them to). In reality it's very unlikely to to contract virus from surfaces / fomites. Some face masks are very poor. I use a n95+ surgical mask. It should be tight and layered.

PCR is for return to Ireland, I am looking for antigen for the outbound flight, which is what pretty much every country accepts apart from our own :(

They do them at the airports with a quick turnaround if that's an option? I've looked myself and I don't think anywhere in Galway is doing antigen tests approved for travel.

Doesn't seem to be. Airport can get busy but I have a few weeks to play with so will just ahead and book now

Not saying you are wrong as I don't know where you are travelling, but double check that because I know from recent experience that a lot only accept PCR.

Just for anyone else I purchased 3 from life pharmacy in Salthill. Chanced my arm as I was going into Davitt to collect photos

On July 13th with only 2 suspected cases of Covid here there were only 6 general beds and 1 icu bed available in UCHG. Still reason to be careful here.

    Source:https://www.galwaydaily.com/news/covid-19/no-covid-19-patients-at-galway-hospitals-today/

There was an appeal earlier on the news for pregnant women to be especially careful and for their partners/contacts to be. 18% of women who've been in ICU in Ireland have been pregnant and ages ranged from 18 to 44.

Not specifically Galway but we all benefit here if people are aware and mindful.

4 days without a post in this thread... COVID in Galway certainty hasn't gone away. The Boards refresh must really be hitting traffic.

There is a significant increase in cases in Galway City affecting the 18-24 age range. https://twitter.com/saoltagroup/status/1417436561646538801

The Oslo posted on Facebook that they were closing due to a staff being close contact (post since deleted).

Caribou have posted this afternoon saying they are closing for the same reason. https://www.facebook.com/caribougalway/posts/3268744396688350

Wow, I hate this upgrade I can't quote just a portion of your post. Anyhow, yes that's interesting Oslo doing the right thing and then, I guess, changing their mind.

I noticed this morning on FB that the same thing happened at O'Reilly's

It's almost as though there will be an epidemic of closures to come.

  • Registered Users Posts: 627 ✭✭✭Private Joker

Salthill has had Da Robertos closed last week due to a close contact, the oslo is closed and so is O'Reillys.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,918 ✭✭✭Storm 10

The Oslo is open just passed by nice crowd sitting outside.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,990 ✭✭✭Pen Rua

Oslo deleted their post when I went to share mine above.

We have a booking for Caribou on Sunday evening; have yet to be contacted to say whether they will reopen.

Odd coincidence to have 4 restaurants / bars close within days of each other due to cases / close contacts.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭beardybrewer

O'Reilly's posted the test came back negative so they're reopening.

Maybe we should give Oslo the benefit of the doubt that it was something similar? Not very media-savvy of them to delete the post rather than explain.

I don't think it's so odd: hospitality staff tend to socialise with other hospitality staff a lot, due to the hours they work. So one case could lead to close contacts in a few places.

Esquires cafe in Eyre Square have had to close again 'cos a staff member who last worked on Sunday tested positive. Will be closed for a couple of days at least. Source: sign on their front window.

Similar closure just announced by the Buddha bar: https://www.facebook.com/1808843005996124/posts/2933042550242825/

We'll see lots of these as the summer progresses, IMHO

Caribou is back today, which is a relief for me because I finally got a table there after weeks of trying to book. :pac:

    Hey folks,

my mam is moving to Europe next week and was hoping to get her second dose of Astro before she goes. Appointment hasn't come through yet but the correct period has passed between first and second jab. Any pharmacies doing Astro? In a bit of a pinch so can delay travel at a high cost due to commitments if she has to but ideally gets an appointment in a pharmacy.

    Thanks :)

Afaik all pharmacies are offering either Pfizer or Janssen - none are offering AZ.

  • Registered Users Posts: 662 ✭✭✭-Vega-

    Thank you :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,469 ✭✭✭FishOnABike

@-Vega- If she got the first dose in one of the MVCs it would be worth phoning the vaccination helpline to see if her second vaccination can be scheduled before she is due to travel.

Even if the first vaccination was through her GP or a pharmacy I'd try ringing the helpline to see if her second can be scheduled.

Neachtain's closed for a couple of days as a staff member is a close contact. Source - sign on the door.

    Buddha Bar still closed yesterday.

    Esquires open again.

How are people finding covid compliance with indoor dining in Galway this week.

My first experience (today) was in a fast food restaurant and I was not asked for anything when I ordered or sat down at the table.

The vaccination centre at the racecourse will be open for walk-ins (no appointment necessary) on Bank Holiday Monday, August 2, from 10am to 4pm. Photo ID and PPSN needed. Vaccine will be Pfizer.
