PCR test for essential medical travel in early August 2021

I’m traveling in August to another European city for essential medical reasons, I’m confused as to when to book my PCR test to ensure its available on time.

Randox for example say they will have the results “by up to  11:59pm the next day”:

    https://booking.randox.ie/frequently-asked-questions/#how-long-does-it-take-to-get-my-results-back

However reading in google reviews some people are waiting beyond this time and even up to 48 hours for their result, missing their flights with no refund. I’ve tried emailing randox but no reply.

As PCR test will be valid for 72 hours to meet the entry requirement at the other end, Im thinking to book it as follows for the flight below:

    • Flight Departure on Monday 9th August at 18.25 (flight time 2.5 hours)
    • PCR test booked in Randox for Saturday 7th August at 17:00

So test is valid up to Tuesday 10th at 17:00 which seems better than booking the test on the Sunday should there be any delays with the result.

    Anyone else done something similar?

I also wonder about randox, I am planning a trip on 30th july should I book pcr test with randox or not as it is half price than the boots.

I also wonder if the randox and boots PCR test results has a QR code now? My friend received pcr test result from boots 2 weeks ago with in 24 hours and it did not have QR code in it at all.

I have no direct answer for your question but are you sure that you need a PCR or would an antigen not do instead? On the way out you only need to statisfy the requirements of the country you are arriving into, not the super strict Irish rules.

Off the top of my head Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Italy only require antigen and its not only cheaper but the result is there within the hour. There are of course places like Hungary (where cheap urgent medical treatments can be got) and they do require PCR but they seem to be in the minority.

    My experience with Randox.

Booked tests for the family for sunday 20 June at 16:00, was due to travel 23 June at 06:00.

Received an email that same night at 23:30 to say their lab received the samples.

Received an email next morning 06:45 with the results.

Less than 15 hours from test to result.

The result was sent as a pdf document and has a QR code top right.

I think if you contact your local GP or HSE they will give you the vaccine assuming you happy to have it..

There is considerable discreasion in this area and i would try this today...

    Where are you travelling to?

If you travelling to EU country the Antigen test likely be ok but you need to double check the Country entry requirement, it good for Spain and i think all EU countries. Also it can be done on the day of flight in Dublin for €45...

As I am aware Ireland is the only EU country requiring PCR test now (open to correction on this). Antigen test will suffice for most countries and is free in most countries. You do, of course, have to get the test before leaving - results take only 15 minutes.

Wrong. The following countries appear to also require a PCR test:

Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Malta, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Why are you pretending to be Swiss John Francis?

Maybe you are not Irish if you don’t know what « open to correction » means. I am surprised North Macedonia is not on the list as well.
