English should hammer this very ordinary SL side again tomorrow.

Won the previous two games with about if my maths is correct 22.1 overs to spare gross in total....big problem for Sri Lanka is they’ve only taken a total of 7 wickets in the previous two encounters....Not enough runs or wickets... failing at both main disciplines of the game and the fielding has been average too.....

England cruising, Sri Lanka 124-8 after 31.5.

England missing the simplest of run out opportunities due to poor awareness but the next ball Tom Curran takes the edge.

Roll on Pakistan and India this is not nearly competitive.

Any hope of more play or is the rain set in for good? Eng probably only need 20 overs odd to knock this off?

Well they never got back out there, England win the series 2-0 and would have won 3-0 had the weather not intervened you’d imagine .

    Ireland vs South Africa

    India vs Australia

    England vs Pakistan

All on the horizon so a feast of cricket coming our way... really looking forward to all that...

It fills the long gap between the test final and the India series starting the fourth of August. How often do Pakistan play England. They're there every summer it seems. It's the West Indies against Australia. India are sending a reserve team to Sri Lanka for a one day and T20 series. Will still be too strong for them sadly.

I’d say the regular Pakistan vs England fixtures in England is down to the very large Pakistani community in England... there are about 1.2 million people I’m reading who are Pakistani in the UK.

Sri Lanka is a strange one, their cricket in all forms seems to be regressing... but they have a population I’m reading of about 22 million people..... you’d think they’d be of the ability to churn out decent and competitive teams as a minimum constantly...to some degree.

That said replacing Murilithern, Jayisurya, Sangakkara, Jayiwardina who all bit the dust close to each other... tough ask.

So England are selecting a completely new squad for the ODIs and T20s versus Pakistan after 3 players and 4 support staff test positive.

A much better outcome than abandoning the series, and a chance to see some of the up and coming new stars in the English game.

Makes for an all the more interesting series

Stokes named as captain. He's only just back playing county cricket and I guess he may play as a specialist batsman

Jimmy Anderson just took his 1000th first class test wicket yesterday.

    Oh Jimmy Jimmy...

Alex Hales will be interesting to see if this his way back. Loads of calls for Darren Stevens. Who did his best to ruin Anderson's figures yesterday.

Dan Lawrence should get a game. Crawley to open maybe. Parkinson and Mahmood. Salt to keep. Will Jacks an option. Hope they don't go for the likes of Vince and Denly. Seen them and are not at the future.

Hales is a classy attacking stroke maker in domestic cricket but he’s really had a lot of chances of test cricket and hasn’t delivered..don’t see why they are retrying him.

    Matches : 11

    Runs : 573

    Average : 27.28

Guy is 32 now, experienced and yet after 11 tests he’s averaging in the mid 20’s, not a good sign. Never scored a test hundred and a handful of 50’s to his name. Tends to ‘get out’ as opposed to be ‘gotten out’...Has a habit of getting out to absolutely dreadful shots too.

You’d wonder where the wickets are coming from quite frankly...

This isn't a test squad. As white ball batsmen go, Hales is on the same level as Bairstow and Roy. Disgraceful the way he's been treated really. If Roy's injury in the world cup was worse it would have cost them dearly not having Hales there.

Morgan doesn't appear to have much time for him alright.

I’d expect the English to be too strong for Pakistan here... a few streaky shots in the first couple of overs by Pakistan and balls evading fielders by luck rather then design...

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

That said, a decently competitive score thanks to some seriously indifferent bowling which Pakistan did well to punish, easy when England are bowling full tosses and half volleys at leg stump... 11.65 runs an over required... be interesting... first four overs will be key...

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Well England are cruising comparatively speaking.

67/1 after 8 and that’s with Buttler struggling a bit.... he goes for a poor shot as I type...out...

Pakistan bowlers and fielders up to plenty of unsportsmanlike carry on... both verbals and bowlers stopping mid delivery action on seeing the English batsmen changing their grip and setting themselves for switch hitting.... hopefully the umpires stay on top of that shîthousery...

Australian team not a clue here, can’t pick the variations and misreading a number of deliveries... 45/6 after 12.4..

da Silva with a great line when Turner came to the crease.. “ come mon this guy has no clue what dat plank of wood in this hand is for “ he was proved right...on todays effort. With no crowd you can hear plenty of conversations/craic... great stuff.

Aussies strugling a bit against Bangladesh... Australia 64/4 after 11.3.... 131/7 was Bangladesh's total

Disastrous first day for England, really poor batting display all out for 183, at one point they lost six wickets for 22 runs in 9.5 overs. India were 21/0 at the close. Interesting to see how the Indian batsmen get on tomorrow, if they get some partnerships going they could really put themselves in a commanding position.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah a real disaster of a first day from England, rather then good bowling it was dreadful batting, looked like at one point 10 tail enders going out there....

England’s frontline attack this morning impressive enough, giving little away, and challenging the skill sets of their opponents... India being very conservative with the bat, as they can afford to be following yesterday...just for now happy to punish the odd wide or over pitched delivery and block or leave everything else.

economy rates seriously impressive for both Anderson and Robinson..

Robinson concedes just 11 runs from 8 overs - Anderson concedes 10 from 8 overs. A testament to how accurate they’ve been but also how conservatives and watchful India are.

Stuart Broad needs to be of the realization as do the selectors that his test career is probably finished.

35 now and in his last 10 test matches he has taken just 9 wickets.. this morning he’s been his usual economical self but hasn’t looked the least bit threatening at all... he’s really only been able to illicit one false shot from an Indian batsman.

india 73-0... slow start but one they’ll be happy with.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Going on the current weather forecast unless something dramatically changes a result is unlikely... quite a bit of rain for the next three days forecasted for Nottingham with tomorrow looking like a complete washout. The whole or most of England for the next ten days is rank.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,017 ✭✭✭SharpshooterTom

England making a right mess of this Indian tail.

Root decided to give Sam Curran the new ball.

Bumrah, who has a test average of just 2, is 28 off 33 balls.

Edit he's out, but how costly will those last 3 wickets be? 73-3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Was about to post the same, between the bowling and the dropped catches, must have been about four or five easy chances, that were drops over the innings, between those drops and the mess England made of wrapping up the tail, it’s not a stretch to say England should be trailing by about 30 or so, not 95. And I was almost forgetting the run out chances they passed up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,415 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

This is a zzzzzzzz fest. India have bowled 10 overs and 21 runs have been scored, of which a few of those (6) have been extras, no wickets...

That’s not surprising when you look at the two openers, they do nothing in a hurry, but they have survived to the close, so this match is still a contest, had England been 2 or 3 down it would have been a long road back, the forecast is bad so there may not be enough time for a positive result, only 2 days left
