Little help with a little build!

    So I managed to snag a 3060ti eventually.

    I'm about to rebuild a very old PC which I use for casual gaming. I've kids so my time isnt my own, but when I get a chance I play Stellaris, and an hour or so VIVE per week (I used to play Modern Warfare back in the day so might dip into the FPSers if I can find one I like).

    3060 is due in a day or two, and here's what I'm thinking for the rest:

    I'd welcome suggestions/ideas/issues

    32GB of ram is a bit OTT, 16 would be fine and just be aware you're paying a premium on looks for the tridentz neo.

    You could go with a cheaper cooler like the fuma 2 and then go for a B550 motherboard.

    PSU is good quality yolk but don't buy a Samsung nvme, you're paying the Samsung tax there. Something like western digital will have a 1TB nvme for about 100 quid.

    I've no idea what the case is like but KO Kiki might have a good idea of it

    Is the B550 going to offer me that much more? (Sorry if thats a stupid question) Searching around it offers a degree of future proofing, but in all likely hood, I wont upgrade, but rather buy a complete new build in a few years...

    You can get an mATX B550 motherboard for the same price as the one you have right now so would be a bit short-sighted to not go for one. All B550 boards come with pcie 4.0 which is no harm.

    Set your country as the UK on pcpartpicker instead of Ireland as Irish companies can be pure robbery, just be aware most UK companies don't ship here so you'll be looking at Amazon primarily.

    If you're playing at 1080p the 5600x is a shout if you can get it a bit under msrp but if you're playing 1440p/4k it's not really worth it unless you want every frame you can get in FPS games like csgo.

    I'll come with a possible alternative list when I get a chance

    Keep getting a compatability issue with the B550/5600X mix...

    "Some AMD B550 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vermeer CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions."

    So the 5600x may need a BIOS update on some boards. Usually for this you would need a compatible CPU to update the bios and then install the new CPU but many motherboards now support USB bios flashback, allowing you to install a new bios on the board without a CPU which is the case in this list below:

    If your going a matx board and plan on having the PC 5 years plus I'd honestly go for the 32gb of ram for longevity. Its not that much extra.

    mostly cost. I was reading it that for .1 GHz on the core clock I'm paying €70.

    3600 is 3.6 core clock and 5600 is 3.7 - I take it I should really be looking at the boost clock (.4 of a difference)?

    Also, the power supply? The Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply is a few sheckles cheaper

    I think you should look at reviews or benches. Aside from clocks/boost, I think the latest Zens have better IPC (instructions per clock).

    Says that parts list is private.

    Just went with that other PSU because it's one of the best you can get but it's a bit OTT tbh, you could probably pick a cheaper one if you look at the Linus tech tips PSU tier list.

    Changed the case as the meshify C has better airflow but cases are about looks too do if you prefer the look of your own one, go for it.

    So my concerns are mainly that I get a mobo I cant upgrade with out another CPU, or that it wont fit in the case!! Looks like I've over those hurdles at least

    Change notes:

    Cooler: 5600X doesn't need a DR4Pro so changed to regular. I also have a Scythe Fuma 2 going on Adverts for 50eur tomorrow.

    Mobo: Go MSI. They have "Flash BIOS" which lets you upgrade BIOS without a working CPU.

    Case: The Thermaltake V20 is not a good case IMHO. Easier to go with an ATX tower. Lancool II Mesh has great airflow & comes stock with 3 front fans. Only needs 1 Arctic P12 for exhaust.

    I think you mean Gigabyte? They both can use USB flash. The MSI B550 Gaming Edge Wifi is a much better board though; and it's got Wifi/Bluetooth to boot.
