Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm in my late 20's now, always plagued with spots and pimples. Going through a low point now so need to do something to improve myself and it's about time I got my skin looked at professionally.

I've been with dermatologist Dr Bart Ramsay at UHL for a few years. He is a fine physician and a nice man too.

Whoever you decide to go to, be aware of the following:
    a) expect a wait as there is a shortage of dermatologists in the health service, even if you are attending as a private patient.
    b) if attending as a private patient, expect a hefty consultation fee (€200 for first visit is not uncommon).

I'll save you 200 euro and also your time. Diet. Exercise. I know it sounds tough but that's your cure.

Dermatologists are in the snake oil game.

Go to cait in skin 26 you won’t look back. Brought my son to dr Ramsay back to gp all they want to give you is medicine. We were told about cait in skin 26 and we never looked back. Costs as much as dermatologist etc. I couldn’t recommend her enough.

I exercise (gym of running) 6 days a week, and have done mostly for close to 2 years. Diet is extremely good as well with no excess sugar or processed foods. Thanks for the advice but diet/exercise aren't the root causes

Not sure if you're a man or women as treatment would be different depending. Also would be good to know what area you live in?

Dr Bart Ramsay is brilliant but he's expensive and the waiting lists are extensive. I think your best port of call would be a GP that specialises in skin. In Adare there is Dr Naomi Mackle. The big positive of going to her is that she can prescribe roaccutane if required. Dr Loughnane in Newcastle West also specialises in skin. Both very good.

If you have spots in your late 20's medical attention is the only thing that will help. Skin treatments by beauticians and diet modifications will not change much.

    Accutane is great stuff...

Along with its needed effects, isotretinoin (the active ingredient contained in Accutane) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking isotretinoin:

    More Common
    Bone or joint pain
burning, redness, itching, or other signs of eye inflammation
    difficulty with moving
    nosebleeds
scaling, redness, burning, pain, or other signs of inflammation of the lips
    skin infection or rash
    Rare
    Abdominal or stomach pain (severe)
attempts at suicide or thoughts of suicide (usually stops after medicine is stopped)
    back pain
bleeding or inflammation of the gums
blurred vision or other changes in vision
    changes in behavior
decreased vision after sunset or before sunrise (sudden or may continue after medicine is stopped)
    diarrhea (severe)
    headache (severe or continuing)
    mental depression
    nausea and vomiting
pain or tenderness of the eyes
pain, tenderness, or stiffness in the muscles (long-term treatment)
    rectal bleeding
    yellow eyes or skin

And to be more constructive... You may have great diet and exercise... You could have some underlying food sensitivity... Try cutting out wheat, dairy and red meat for a while and see if that helps.

Are the spots and pimples located in the same part of your face - around the chin area? If so, you most likely suffer from Adult Acne. A consultant dermatologist could easily recommend an appropriate medication to deal with this problem effectively as well as advising you on an appropriate skincare regime. Roaccutaine, which has been mentioned here, has been identified as a possible cause of severe depression and suicides among teenagers who have been prescribed it in the past so I am not sure if it's still being used by doctors here. You have not stated whether you are male or female. Finally, do not consult anybody other than an appropriately qualified medical professional regarding this issue. Most of these skin care clinics around town are nothing other than glorified beauty parlours whose only real interest is in extracting as much cash as possible from their "patients".

Heard good things about Dr Ramsey but never been to him.
Do you have health insurance? Your going to be waiting a while to be seen if you go public.

Hiya totally get what you are saying about how you feel with your skin problems.

I had really bad skin issues for 10 years saw consultants and recommended gps in limerick and while things improved for a while they never healed fully.

I was recommended to visit Dr Trevor Markham in the Galway Clinic and he was brilliant totally clear now and the knock on personal changes im sure you understand are amazing.

The Pharma industry, on the other hand, is not profit driven. And doctors do not prescribe dangerous medication.

The jury is out on the risk of suicide being increased when taking Isotretinoin. Some literature saying the risk is no higher than background risk of suicide in the general population (age adjusted) or the age adjusted population with acne severe enough to warrant the use of the drug.

    Some examples:

Important Tidbit: I am not giving medical advice, nor supporting the use of Isoretinoin. I'm merely presenting the information on it. Do your own research on it and be aware there is a label warning on its use.

Dr. Ramsey is the best about. Look no further.

He currently has a waiting list as long as your arm. You'd be looking at around 12 months to Ramsey - Even privately.

If you can afford to go private Dr, Cal Condon at the Blackrock Clinic is regarded, even by his peers, as the most eminent practitioner in Ireland in the area of dermatology. Not cheap, of course. The initial consultation fee is 400 euro, 300 for any subsequent visits. The waiting time for an appointment is approximately three weeks. You need a referral letter from your G.P.

His fees ruled hm out for me.
Going private in Dublin I would recommend Prof Brian Kirby in Vincents Private. €250 for the first visit and €100 for each visit after. Depending on the treatment he prescribes you can switch back into the public system and skip the queue.

Late to this thread but just thought I should add my experience with Cal Condon - excellent dermatologist and excellent nurses in attendance. But don't expect kid gloves with the secretaries/receptionists. They are rude beyond belief. If the consultant wasn't so good I would go elsewhere in a heartbeat.

never went through with it, just learned to deal with it, so I'm no help to you, sorry. It's not bad now anyway so I probably outgrew it. But I am early 30's now
