Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah surprised to see McGrath in there but Kenny has spoken lately about players playing 3 games in 9 days if they aren't playing for their clubs, he said that was a major lesson he has learnt in the past 12 months. Guys like Hendrick, Hourihane, Molumby aren't playing for their clubs (I know the latter two now have sorted loans), so I wonder is it a case of saving Hourihane/Molumby for the game on Saturday?

Hendrick? McGrath? Doherty on the left? I can only see a Portugal win by at least 3 goals and Ronaldo to become highest all-time international goalscorer.

As regards the importance of tonight, when we had pragmatic coaches at the helm, the familiar lament espoused on forums and in newspaper columns was that we were being held back by 'dinosaur' coaches, and that we could offer more if only we had someone to unleash our true potential.

I think a game like tonight is therefore important in judging this team's future. Whatever about the former coaches, they were often able to dig out results against sides above us when we qualified for tournaments. We wouldn't have qualified, otherwise.

People actually wanting Doherty on the left is gas to me. The desperation the last few years to just stick him in anywhere randomly is bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,580 ✭✭✭ArielAtom

Doherty on the left is a joke. He’s a benchwarmer at Spurs. Manning has played regularly for Swansea and done well.

I hope we can put in a shift tonight and have a good performance but I have a really bad feeling about this game. Could be a hard watch

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Yeah it's going to be a tough one tonight I think.

Would rather Molumby ahead of Hendrick in the team and Parrott ahead of Connolly.

Very hard to be optimistic tonight but let's hope for the best.

I think it is a near cert that Ronaldo scores for the record especially with the timing.

Our youngest team in twenty years.

I honestly believe the only way is up. Because we're at a stage now where senior players aren't doing it at club level even, and the young players are trying to get their careers started. We're also trying to get the younger lads into the national team and build for the future. Some of them are starting to play regularly for club level, and others have gotten moves which might see them play more regularly.

I doubt Kenny is the man to lead us long term. I think he'll maybe get Euro 2024 qualifiers and then they'll decide his future on how things are going during that campaign. But I think long term he'll be viewed as sort of our John Toshack. The man who brought in these young players, and got them ready for the next managers to reap the benefits.

There's gonna be ten games next year with friendlies and nation's league games. Between now and the end of 2022 the young lads like Bazunu, O'Shea, Molumby, Knight, Parrott, and Idah could have twenty plus caps going into the qualifiers. Like Egan now only has 14 caps and made his debut four years ago.

I think Idah could have a really rough night up against Pepe. A young striker with not much senior experience against the master of shithousery. Its going to be a long 90 minutes

It’ll be a long night. We’ll be defending for 90 minutes. This crowd have class, speed and confidence.

Good from Doherty there not just hoofing it.

Thought that was deserving of an early yellow from Bernardo Silva

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,133 ✭✭✭Mervyn Skidmore

How is that tackle on Doherty not a yellow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

Dirty enough there by Bernardo Silva, foot pretty high

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,160 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Keep it below 4 and thats a good result. Then hope for a draw this weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

Connolly had to knock it past Pepe and try outpace him there. He's 38 FFS

Embarrasing from O'Shea. Pretended to be hit in the face.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,326 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Send O'Shea off for falling to the ground. Embarrassing.

O’Shea ffs grow up with the diving. Commentators would slate Ronaldo if that was him that went down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,028 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

That's just embarrassing from O'Shea going down like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

O Shea should be hanging his head in shame there. Going down holding his face

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 283 ✭✭Kerry_2008

Is Ronnie calling that a punch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,948 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

    He got the ball...

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

    Ronaldo swings at O'Shea there...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

Will we get the rub of the green here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

If they're this unsure on the pen they shouldn't give it.

Embarrassing from Whelan too claiming it was a punch.

Nothing to do with Ronaldo's United links of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,118 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

That Ronaldo punch says Ronnie 🤣

There was contact on the ball there for me, he looked at it enough times to convince himself not to change his mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 283 ✭✭Kerry_2008

Will Ronnie shut about Ronaldo's shove

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,326 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Should take Fernandes' prior form into account and assume it's a dive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,847 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Ronnie - ‘Will they have a look at Ronaldo’s punch’

    F off Ronnie

Shocking refereeing clear as day the ball but it’s Ronaldo so he gets his peno. Shocking haven’t seen a ref told to have a look and not go with Var
