Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    First useless cross from McClean

Playing some nice stuff so far - really good to watch

Coleman is like he's 25 again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,941 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

McClean is leaving acres of space for them on the left.

    Ah now RTE!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

That was a brutal cross from Doherty. So much time and space - had to do better there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,218 ✭✭✭POKERKING

Great to see 5 key players from our last u21 qualifying campaign under Kenny playing key roles in this game. Great sign for the future.

I really wish we would just wear 1-11 too

In danger of going flat here.

In fairness to Azerbaijan they're decent, certainly causing us trouble.

Couldn't care if we wore letters as long as we win this one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,447 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

Azerbaijan well in this in the last 15 mins. 50/50 as to who opens the score currently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,941 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

McClean is an accident waiting to happen here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

    We’re very uncomfortable dictating play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

I think they're pretty useless - anytime we've pressed them they've made mistakes but in the last 10 minutes or so we're standing off them too much. There's a goal or two in this for us but we'll have to be more aggressive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,941 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

    Ah Idah

    Great chance there.

What’s the story with the RTE coverage being mainly super wide angle? It’s like sitting in the cheap seats, hit the zoom button every once in a while to show the action a bit closer up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

We've had a few half decent chances - hope those misses won't come back and haunt us

I feel like we’ve missed the boat to coast it, we started well but got nothing and the Azerbaijanis seem comfortable enough now-so 35 mins in and already feeling like a 1-0 would be amazing.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

A foul throw at this level is **** pathetic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,742 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

Cmon! I expected more chances created here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,656 ✭✭✭DJIMI TRARORE

Not much experience in our front 3, half chaces coming, not sure where an Irish goal is going to come from, Egan/Duffy most likely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,330 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

A feature of the Kenny era has been we can’t get teams on the run. We create chances 15 or so mins apart.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

Few errors starting to creep in a bit now. Need to get to half time and reset. Has Parrott done anything in this half? Other than a couple of flicks I can't recall him doing anything of note

Hope Kenny gives a rousing half time team talk, if he can't beat this team I don't think we can beat anyone under him. Will be disappointing if it ends up a draw and still people support Kenny for the job.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

That's a cracking strike in fairness.

Hopefully that gives them a kick up the arse to up the tempo a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 775 ✭✭✭RonanG86

Feck's sake. Coleman or Cullen have to get closer to him than that. There's plenty back, it's not like he'd have had a clean run if they'd committed to a tackle and missed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,306 ✭✭✭sonic85

In all honesty that was fcuking rubbish defending. We've been standing off them and letting them have the ball for the last 15 minutes or so like they're Brazil. Yer man had all day to have a crack there - he wasn't even looking to shoot he wanted to lay the ball off to someone. Disaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Even without their goal this performance has been very disappointing. They lead us on possession and shots on target. These lads were beaten 2-1 by Luxembourg a few days ago and have won once in their last 12 games (against Belarus). Depressing they've asked us any questions at all. It looks every bit like the meeting of the two worst teams in the group, and at the moment we're bottom. Big improvement needed second half.

Poor performance. Kenny under pressure if he doesn't win this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,278 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Great hit but fcuk sake you can't just sit off lads like that.

Parrott has been very poor when he's gotten involved. He's lost out on the right though. Connolly largely wasteful in possession. McClean been poor and not doing anything going forward bar taking throws.

    Huge second half needed now.

As Miley in Glenroe used to say " Well holy god".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

Once again, like Luxembourg, they sat off the man and let him shoot. I’m actually shocked he’s allowed them to play the same way again.

Big 45 coming up for Kenny.

Rubbish defending, but that's us for most of the half, standing off constantly. No aggression to our play. The sad part is I know for a fact we'll start pressing harder and being more aggressive in and out of possession now that we're chasing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,133 ✭✭✭Mervyn Skidmore

Shocking defending there, just stood off him and invited the shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,941 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Connolly has been completely ineffective and his decision making is really bad - taking put shots when he should be squaring it. Parrott as well has been absent. Don't see us getting two goals here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

4 players stood there watching him on the ball before he took the shot!!

Azerbaijan came into it more after the first 20 mins and we struggled to create anything. Don't seem to have a plan for attacking, wrong runs being made, wrong passes and loose passing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 775 ✭✭✭RonanG86

It's the same thing as always though, we just don't seem to have the extra little bit in the top third to open the oppo. up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,847 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Performance vs Portugal will be quickly forgotten if this result stays the same.

Qualification campaign containing 4 losses out of 4 including losses to Luxembourg (h) and Azerbaijan (h) shouldn’t allow for any forgiveness.

I have to say, I heard lads from OTB wanting a new contract for Kenny during the week.....couldn't believe it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,858 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

running out of memes to express my frustration with this Irish team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,759 ✭✭✭gustafo

Hard to watch this crap again terrible 1st half

How can it be so different from the last game?

Kenny must go if they lose this.

This Irish team could do well having Lisa as part of the coaching staff.
