Recommendation for supply/fit of a home charger (Dublin)?

I’ve an ID4 arriving soon and need a home charger installed. Any advise would be appreciated.

Lots of variables here

What do you want from the charge point besides the obvious of charging the car.... things like...

- app support
- solar integration
- load sensing
- tethered/untethered
- cable length
- budget
- aestethics
etc

You need to give more details on what you are after to get recommendations on the supply of the charge point.

And your location would be important for the fit of the charge point as most are just general electricians so wouldn’t be travelling the length of the country for one small job.

South Dublin area. Probably the Zappi charger fits the bill.

I bought zappi direct from myenergi and our electrician is installing it. But we needed him to come anyway to do a few jobs. Should be easier to get dedicated company in Dublin.

I see from another forum in the UK, reports of the Zappi covers disintegrating after two years and being replaced under warranty. Anyone have any experience of this over here?
Anyone using the Andersen chargers and what do they think of them?

Happening to some of the v1 models, not all.
Mentioned recently on another thread here where they had the issue

I haven’t seen it mentioned on the v2 models, which is what you’d be getting if you bought one now.

I've got v2 Zappi for about 2 years now. No issues thus far with the cover, save for a few spiders making it home

Just got a zappi v2 installed at home the guys were done in under an hour, grand job got a black one looks well. Just the need the car to arrive now

Yes, see separate thread. Customer support is amazing for zappi. Anderson is crazy expensive as far as I know

Are most installers ok with the customer sourcing the charger themselves?

Yeah the installation of the charger is fairly universal, basically just connect them to the power

I bought my Zappi direct from MyEnergi and got electrician install it. That was before Brexit though so to might be better to go with a local supplier

PM me if you'd like details for the electrician, he did a decent job at a reasonable price IMO

just get an electrician, they'll charge 100-250, a specialist company will charge 500+

Any experience just going through ESB to organise the install? Is their charger or installer service any good?

I'm hoping to get an ID.3 shortly and would like to have an untethered charger - they seem to use the EO Mini Pro 2 (a 7kw charger)

I presume by ESB you mean Electric Ireland? I seem to remember people saying they contract out to KN, not sure if that's still the case. Haven't heard any complaints

I've got the older model of EO Mini, never missed a beat and even survived being ripped off the wall

Was thinking this when people were saying to get an electrician to install. Are they eligible to fill the grant form? I've a 6-8 week wait to get anyone in the Wexford area to install my zappi. Nightmare

Well you aren't supposed to get anything done until you get the grant approval

Is the delay on an electrician or the Zappi? Seems crazy as I was able to get an electrician out to install my Zappi in about 2 days

Yes ,as long as they are a registered electrician.( general registration not specific for chargers )

they just need to fill in the correct form

Your Electrician must provide you with a copy of the Certificate Number 3. Review this and ensure it is completed properly.

And send it away

Your electrician must send a fully completed copy of the Certificate Number 3 to Safe Electric Ireland. We will check with Safe Electric Ireland that the relevant certificate has been filled for that work and that the electrician is a fully approved and registered electrician. Once this is confirmed, we will make an electronic payment of the grant amount to the bank details provided by the you.

I didn't want to bump an old thread (from 2018/2019 here) on this topic, but just wondered if there were any updates on whether a mid-terrace house with an on-street parking spot can have an external charger installed?

I live in a mid-terrace house, early 2000's construction, with no laneway out the back and was hoping to put an outdoor charger on the front of the house.

In the UK, I know that this is permitted, but I haven't seen it widely done in Ireland. I've even heard anecdotally that the site survey might be failed if the charging cable has to cross a footpath (even with a cable cover ramp like this for safety).

I believe you'll need to get permission from the management company or local council, whoever owns the path. I've never done either but a few folks here have suggested management companies are easier to deal with than the council

AFAIK you can't have a cable crossing a public footpath, even if it's in a cover. or a gully You'd need to run a cable underground to a post with the charger mounted on it

It's all technically feasible, but will add expense

Having said that, I recently noticed a Leaf parked outside a terraced house near me, and there's an external socket on the front of the house

I've never seen it plugged in, but I wouldn't be surprised if the owner had done some undercover charging at night
