    Referee absolutely riding us here.

Dublin have shut down the centre in their defence and we're finding it much more difficult this half.

Badly needed that point, 4 up at the water break

  • Registered Users Posts: 446 ✭✭mcgragger

Dublin are not at the races.

Meath ladies will only lose this by mistakes now.

Dublin very very poor on the day

The meath team want it more by the looks of it

Ref letting meath away with murder on over steps

Well done, always good to see a new county come to the top.

Vicky Wall takes some abuse in fairness

Fantastic win for Meath against the champions Dublin, 1-11 v 0-12

Vicky Wall is a proper warrior of a player.

Thoroughly enjoyable game and richly deserved win as they were clearly the better team.

    Comhghairdeachas don Mhí.

Missed the game, followed it on Twitter in a taxi heading into London. Sounds like a great display. Congrats to your girls, from a Dub.

Absolutely incredible performance. You would have sworn they were senior final veterans the way they saw the game out.

Great support and they outnumbered Dublin fans easily.

Referee was utterly atrocious. Seemed like one rulebook was applied to Meath and another to Dublin. Niamh O'Sullivan was clocked in the side of the head in the first half right in front of the referee and he somehow didn't even give a free. Countless other instances of him blowing for frees for Dublin yet giving nothing to Meath for similar tackles. Thankfully didn't affect the result.

2 All-Ireland wins in just over a week! I could get used to this.

Much as it pains me to give the Royals praise. Impressive Ladies team well coached. Well deserved result. Amazing progression in a couple of years. Well done to all concerned.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

It was nearly like the mayo dub men's game a few weeks ago, the best team won despite the ref.

Serious composure in the last few minutes to see it out.

Thought McGuirk was phenomenal in goals. Huge save in the first half and her kickouts were close to perfect. She, Vikki Wall and Shauna Ennis were all playing back when Cork beat them by 40 points. Would have been very easy for them to say "why bother?".

This is a fantastic video from yesterday.

Congrat on the win. Amazing performance and against one of the worst refs I've seen to add to it.

Level of organisation, fitness and skill was a pleasure to watch.

    Congrats again.

Amazing performance. I thought they were starting to struggle with about 20 minutes to go, Dublin were flooding forward and the girls looked out on their feet but they dug deep and battled on, kept the scoreboard ticking over, and prevailed. Delighted for them.

Unreal performance yesterday, the defence was awesome. I was on the Hill for it and you could see in the first half the midfielders would turn and drop really quickly when Dublin had the ball and like everyone said it was all to flood around the D. Some of the scores were top class too, the system they are running is brilliant.

Great game, great win. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Tactically superb and controlled the second half, despite the dodgy calls against them at times.

I'm also delighted to see the comments from the Dublin manager, very gracious in defeat, and saying the better team won. Refreshing to hear that kind of honesty.

Emma Duggan looks an incredible footballer. Could become greatest ladies footballer ever. Hard to believe only 19.

Think it was our last point by Niamh O'Sullivan with her left from the left hand side of the goals around 5m from the end line. Remember thinking "why is she shooting from there?". It was a phenomenal score.

Was thinking the same myself. 3-19 in 5 games against some serious opposition is an incredible return. The sky's the limit for her.

In all the build up and subsequent celebrations, it was easy to forget the hurling championship was on last weekend.

Kildalkey made a statement by just about holding on against Ratoath, they were 10 points ahead at one point. Trim in big trouble as they were beaten by Kiltale. It's likely that they'll have to win against one of Kildalkey or Na Fianna in order to qualify (they should easily beat Longwood). Na Fianna had no trouble against Longwood who look destined for Group B next year.

In group B, Dunboyne look most likely to top the group after beating Killyon by 7. Kilmessan beat Blackhall while Tones may have the shortest stint at senior in history as they lost by 15 to Clann na nGael.

Definitely recommend the Loyal Royals review of the Ladies final. Some excellent interviews with the players culminating in a great interview with Eamonn Murray.

Congrats on the win lads. Only getting on now. We had wanted to travel up but had commitments with one of the kid's sport. Can someone explain exactly how a Gowna man from the Cavan Longford border ended up managing Meath? I heard on The GAA Hour he's 15 years involved in Ladies GAA but just wondering how he ended up coaching Meath as I haven't heard much re that except that allegedly he didn't even want the job.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

He's living in Boardsmill now, I believe. He was coaching the Meath minor team when he was approached in 2017 and only took the job on when he was given assurances that he could pick his own selectors.

The situation reminds me of how Boylan initially got the Meath mens job when we were at our lowest ebb and no one else wanted the job.

He has coaching Meath underage teams for 15 years. He managed Meath to underage All Ireland 12 years ago in 2009. He lives in Boardsmill Meath for years, his wife is Liam Harnan sister. Her nephew would be Padraig Harnan, current Meath player and her cousin would be Mick Lyons.

And all his 4 daughters played for Meath. He basically was the person that organised and built Boardmill ladies GAA club for 15 years or more. He trains 2 underage ladies teams in the club currently as well as manages senior team. Of course he is proud Cavan man but he is adopted Meath man now. He loves Meath football and has become greatest figure in history of Meath ladies GAA.

There are examples of outside people coming into Meath and becoming hugely important figures in Meath football. Colm O Rourke of course was born in Leitrim and moved when he was around 10, and Father Tully who is one the greatest gaa coach's of all time up there with kerry Eamon O Sullivan, another outside influence. ( Up to 1974 there was no managers in charge of teams just trainers/coachs). Packie Tully was a Westmeath man who moved to Moynalty. Became Meath coach/ trainer and led Meath to 3 All Ireland senior titles, 2 League div 1 title and 7 leinster senior titles.

I have found throughout the years many people who move to Meath who became wrapped up Meath GAA and became passionate Meath supporters. Others that don't also. But I just have found this over the years, people move to Meath and get totally wrapped up in GAA in the county. The most passionate Meath supporter I ever knew was a man from Longford.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne look like they're through to the quarter finals despite losing their first two games. Bit of a mad group is group A. NOM beat Don/Ash, Dunshaughlin hammered NOM and Don/Ash hammered Dunshaughlin. Ratoath come good yet again in the second half after being behind at half time to NOM. In 6 of their last 8 championship games, they've been behind at half time and ended up winning each of them.

Ratoath now most likely play the loser of Summerhill and Dunboyne. Donaghmore/Ashbourne will probably play either Kells or Tones.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,411 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

So senior quarter finals are as follows:

    Ratoath v Summerhill

    Na Fianna v Wolfe Tones

    Gaeil Colmcille v Donaghmore/Ashbourne

St. Peters Dunboyne v St. Colmcille's

    Relegation playoffs are:

    Dunshaughlin v Seneschalstown

    Ballinabrackey v Simonstown Gaels

    Moynalvey v Navan O'Mahonys

    Skryne v Curraha

It worked last year so I'm going to predict that Ratoath won't win it. Dunboyne seem to have the bit between their teeth and are the only heavy hitter that Ratoath haven't come up against in the last two championships. They've also a huge amount to prove having failed to get out of the groups the last two years.

For relegation, Curraha probably look like the most likely to drop but Seneschalstown have been pretty woeful the last two games.

Tough luck for your lads rpurfield with Pat's needing to win two games to stay up.

Loser of Pat's v Ballinlough is relegated while the winner then needs to beat Moylagh to stay up. Loser of Syddan v Kilmainham is also relegated.

8 minor players on the minor team of the year with corner back Conor Ennis chosen as player of the year.
