Can I switch names on broadband bill?

I have been a customer with Sky for broadband for many years now. The bill is in my partners name. Every year he would phone and try get a cheaper rate than what they are currently charging him which is €55 for broadband only.

Today he phoned Sky to try get a better deal, and we were told that there are no deals to be had right now, but to phone back next month and try again.

Now I am a big believer in moving providers for any bill, but I genuinely don't want any hassle in moving broadband providers. I did try this about 10 years ago with Vodafone and they cocked it up big time. I end up staying with Sky.

My query is, could my partner change the bill into my name, and do you know if I would be offered a new deal?

No, your partner signed the agreement with sky and they won't change names on the account.

What may be better option is to see how long is left on the contract, if its out of contract, get your partner to give 30 days cancelation notice (They may offer a deal to stay to your partner) if not, you then make an enquiry and as a new customer you may get a deal. Keep in mind the clock starts to tick re service ending once notice to cancel is given.

If there's still a period your partner is in contract, you'll have to wait and follow above steps, bit unfortunately, no utility or service provider will add or remove a name on a billing account/ existing contract.

No problem, just be sure to check contract end date and think about next move 😉
