Why is it when you do a search for a topic it always gives you results that are years and years old. Even before changing the site this happened. For example i searched for the ryder cup discussion. The first Results that came up are from 5 6 and 7 years ago.?

With the old site you could change the order of results to "newest" which always gave better results. But with the change to the new site, "newest" now just produces an empty list. Very frustrating.

I pointed this problem out here. Still awaiting reply....

While we're at it, is the "search this thread" function now completely gone, or am I just overlooking someplace where it's hidden away?

We don't have a search this thread at the moment, no. It's on the list of features to be added though but I can't really say when that will happen yet.
