On my Xbox One X the only way to get into a game is by unplugging all USB devices from console, get into a game and plug my mixamp back in and it disconnects the controller until i plug it back out....uninstalled and hoping for an EA trial around launch instead

Ill try it out but I think I was using this arrow to swap to the grenade launcher attachment on the M5 rifle, the most useless launcher ever as it dropped the grenade 2ft in front of me and caused a moment of panic 😄

You can turn most of it off and you can increase the opacity of the points. But the text size and colour (light turquoise when most back grounds are white) are very difficult to read for me.

worst Battlefield I have ever played, its like a COD reskin

    very disappointed

It was always a bit of a joke when you'd have 1 guy and then suddenly his whole squad would spawn on him, with the osprey you've that times 100 doubled down with the squad spawns. Every point is pretty much being defended or attacked at the same time except for maybe the tower which can be somewhat defended.

I don't have issue with seeing the difference between allies or enemies due to the UI but it's still stupid that we've got 2 teams of clones and even as they expand it it's mostly going to be the same character that get's chosen by the mass of random for whatever the basic bitch ability is.

The lack of classes is terrible, people used to be forced to pick and choose and then maybe accidentally be forced to play that role somewhat.

I wanted to like it but honestly I think it's awful, just a huge sprawling mess, lack of classes is a huge misfire.

I don't really get it. All they had to do was take BF4 into the modern age with better graphics, new maps, and updated gunplay.

This to me is an even worse misfire than BFV at launch and the worst BF in a long time, can't remember the last time I disliked a BF title so much. Won't be buying it.

Got so close to the Tornado hitting the map while I was playing tonight.

It was on the horizon but the other team died before it hit. Have had two space rocket launches but no space rocket explosions yet.

Has anyone had a tornado hit while playing yet?

Seems the current meta I've discovered in a couple of games is a Maria Falck specialist with a sniper rifle and ammo pack. Doesn't run out of ammo and can constantly self heal.

    Seems just a tad unbalanced...

The more I play it, the more I find I'm not enjoying it all that much. I think they have made a big, big mistake with removing the class based system and introducing specialists. I'm finding very little teamwork happening during games and squads seem non-functional. They've gone and changed something that was really integral to the battlefield series since its inception. The lack of factions is also just not working in my view. Seeing the same characters on both sides is just ... odd.

The lack of in-game destruction in orbital is disappointing too. I'm hoping the other maps are different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,535 ✭✭✭✭Varik

There's a decent bit of destruction, there's stuff that can't be destroyed but there's a lot that can.

Also the liquid nitrogen in those spherical tanks leaking and at least having a freezing ui effect.

They've turn squads in to nothing more than spawn points without the classes. Something i really liked about hell let loose is limiting class to set squad types, snipers and tank crew have their own squads and normal squads have classes limits so anti armour infantry or medic can be balanced differently as you can't have a full squad.

I don't know what was wrong with having two different sides that had two different sets of weapons.

It doubled the longevity as you had to skill up both sides and 4 classes on each. Kept you going for years.

I struggle really bad with it. When the storm starts the map gets a blue tint and goes dark so from 50m everyone looks silhouetted and the blue name blends in with the blue tint. I just shoot at whatever moves now. I'm still **** though.

Some asked about the spotter button on Xbox. It's R1 but dice said it's not working fully/ correctly before the beta came out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

My hope is, that hazard mode is very squad and class focused and portal will allow us to build the game modes with the separate factions.

So they felt the main multiplayer needed something a bit different.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,290 ✭✭✭Ardent

Been waiting for this game all year and so disappointed with that beta. Played it on both PC and PS5 and on both it's a buggy, laggy mess. DICE have tried to reassure us that this is two months old code but, call me cynical, why would you release something so broken as a taster so close to launch?

Will be cancelling my PC pre-order as I feel this is a game that won't have the performance issues and bugs ironed out until a year post launch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,402 ✭✭✭Homelander

For me it goes way beyond being buggy and the horrible performance - the core game is just plain bad.

The graphics are just OK, but the sound design is a serious step back from other games, the specialist system is a nightmare and has killed teamwork, squad play and general cohesion stone dead. Not to mention the extreme difficulty in telling friend and foe, and tons of clones running around.

There's also a really weird scaling thing going on where guys that are 20 metres away look like they're 60m away. I don't know what they've done there, I think they're literally made the characters way smaller than in previous BF games for some reason.

The guns are really poorly thought out, the sniper is utterly useless with comical drop off after short distances...literally the DMR has less drop off and better range.

There are tons more things, including the fact that a beta one month from launch has broken spotting, no chat, no commo rose, etc, as well. Honestly it's a mess. It doesn't feel like Battlefield, it feels like some Free2Play knockoff product of Battlefield/Warzone.

And then there are the bugs, I can live with a few bugs but there are some huge ones for a game set to be released next month. Bodies floating in mid air, teleportation, disppearing vehicles, disappearing models, no audio cues for tons of basic stuff..... a mountain of really glaringly blatant bugs.

I've been disappointed by BF games in the past, but this is the first time I've actively thought a BF game was downright bad. Even going back to BFV afterwards, whatever you think about that game overall, it has fantastic gunplay, movement and audio/visual is top notch.

Unless the final game is radically different from the game I fear DICE are heading towards a collossal flop. I honestly am shocked by how rough of a state the beta is in, a month out - felt like playing an early alpha build at best.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,290 ✭✭✭Ardent

Agree with all the above. Will also add that the Orbital map itself was a bad showcase - even with 128 players you could spend ages travelling in search of action. It was probably too large if anything. And then all of the big open spaces, particularly around the rocket launch site, were terrible from a combat point of view.

They had better be working on better maps than that.

Not impressed myself either on pc. Gonna go back to BF4. Still loads playing on pc.

I dont mind bugs in a beta and lack of polish etc, one can easily see past them as they will be addressed.

I enjoyed it initially for 2 hours or so but the more i played the more meh it became.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,408 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

Definitely becomes Meh as time goes on

But I think it's the Portal mode that really interests me and the other smaller squad based games. So still hopeful.

Tom H the leaker drives me mad sometimes, but he isn't too often wrong...identity crisis sums it up. Part of me is hoping they delay it a bit to take on any Beta feedback they got.

Have always loved the damn series but really want them to do 2042 justice..

They seem to have learned very little from BFV and what happens when you try to make a game that is geared primarily to players of other games, as opposed to focusing primarily on your actual core fanbase.

I'm not saying 2042 can't be fun, but it's shaping up to be a jack of all trades but master of none.

I'd like to be wrong but given the atrociously rough state of the beta and the fact that was the best they could give us a month out, I have very little hope the launch will be anything other than BF4 again.

Ideally they would do what 343 did with Halo and just delay it - that decision practically saved the game as we've seen in the recent playtests - but I doubt that will happen either.

Dice have gained a really bad reputation for releasing games in rough state and then eventually making them the games they should have been at launch - BF4, BFV, Battlefront 2, etc. It's really not doing them any favors.

I really find it hard to understand how they knocked it out of the park with BF1, biggest seller of the franchise, and then have been making a mess of BFV and now BF2042.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,259 ✭✭✭Shlippery

Delay seems unlikely if they're powering on with this Hazard zone info drop in 2 days - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkMiPwL8G1w

Likely see something 'Available at Launch - Nov 19th' at the end of it or something along those lines...

You're dead right about BF1, incredible attention to detail and an all round polished package. Would be curious to be a fly on the wall at DICE as they've clearly got talent, they just seem misguided in recent years..

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,535 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Sounds like just a lot of passing the blame to EA, and claiming it's COD influences. I don't see any COD influences in the **** ups they made, COD just getting brought up as it's BF fans personal boogeyman. They canned BFV early to move people giving them an extra year, and then kept moving other studios over to assist.

They could have easily had as many premium season pass filled specialist as they wanted and still kept the classic class system, the most common rumour previously was that the specialist were that just that specialist for each of the classes with an additional aspect to them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,685 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

Primarily budget and time. Between BF4 and BF1 most of the BF duties (BF4 dlc and Hardline) were handed off to other studios (primarily DICE LA). But BF5 etc had to share space with Battlefront titles (at least multiplayer side) and DICE basically got turned into technical support for all of EA when they tried to get all their titles (from FIFA to Anthem to Mass Effect) to use frostbite and DICE was basically who everyone called to try and get the engine to work. (I think Respawn is the only subsidiary that refused to use frostbite) Being the company behind an engine is a lot of work before you even think of your own games. Just look at how much Epic's game output dropped when Unreal 3 engine took off and almost every game on the 360 started using it. EA expected DICE to do the same and still push out multiple titles parallel.

BFV also had its budget slashed because EA didnt understand live services as a model and thought they could release a smaller initial title and then put more money in after already making a profit, same logic they tried with Anthem and Battlefront 2 and it backfired across the board for them as all 3 titles failed as live service models.

Looks good, specialists will make sense here in Escape from HAZKOV!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Wonder how dying is handled. Is it high stakes and if you get killed are you out for the rest of the game, or need a buy back like Apex, or do you just respawn on your squad in which case it is just a squad death match really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭Stone Deaf 4evr

Disappointingly little details on that, but first glance makes it seem more like a limited time mode in Warzone than escape from tarkov.

No reference to loot or losing gear, etc, it could be a trailer for anything really, and while the production values of the trailer cant be argued with, nothing I saw in the beta has instilled any sort of confidence in this mode either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,845 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Much more laid out here. https://www.ea.com/games/battlefield/battlefield-2042/news/battlefield-briefing-exploring-battlefield-hazard-zone

32 players. 8 X 4 player squads, With roaming AI.

    Games 5-20mins

    4 player squad, individual specialists.

Get dropped in and find hard drive and get out.

If you miss the first extraction you need to survive to the end and get out then.

Everyone left at the end gets marked on a map and you need to either kill squads and take their hard drives or avoid them and try to get out. Before the storm hits.

You earn DMC from playing, you spend it on what you think you need in the round.

I assume more hard drives you get out with = more DMC for the next round.

1 life each but you can be brought back. Either through finding redeploy uplink in game or buying one pregame with DMC. 1 person left could bring the other 3 back in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 827 ✭✭✭j14

Just thinking how they really should have left classes in this game. You pick your class, then after you rack up 2500 points in game you get to spawn as a specialist for that class. When you die as a specialist you have to rack up another 2500 to be a specialist again.

You mean like battlefront. That's preposterous, using a working established system that people received well rather than something completely new that removes a main feature of the franchise.

They could have also done the same as BF1 or BFV but I don't think the specialist are special enough to warrant any of this, so my personal favourite they have something like most hero shooters where you've your main classes and then within those you the heros who work slightly differently. So medic class would have X number of specialist variants rather than just having a single one with some equipment changes.
