GAA need to step up

The GAA is a nationalist organisation and taps into the gaelic culture to drum up support for its own games.

The positive side of that is bumper attendances at games and participation. The negative is above, every hardline republic para military group will naturally gravitate towards the GAA as a symbol.

To be honest i can see very easily how the above situation would happen. You're talking about what is fundamentally an amateur athletics organisation with ordinary local volunteers. I cant image there were too many of those people volunteering to tell a para military organisation what they can and cant do.

You're not going to find must respite in addressing this with facts. Dudley and the OP are hoping to up the outrage anti. That's all the thread is about. The GAA now is a crack squad of hardened police activists who should put it up to disguised republicans in their car park ....

I get the feeling that some people HATE the many GAA cross-community initiatives in the North and would like nothing better than to stir up division and return to the days when Gaelic games were for "them-uns" only.

I don't really understand the point you are trying to make.

You are vexed by a parade so you are blaming a GAA club who are nothing to do with the parade and have released a statement disowning themselves from it.

But that's not good enough for you. Now you want the club to somehow track down these individuals and ban them from GAA games!

Downcow, from the posts above it appears that the club have publicly stated that they did not allow this or support this.

I googled the club and they do have a few pitches and a clubhouse. Their main playing grounds are actually called after an ex-chairman father of 6 who was abducted and murdered by the LVF while locking up the gates less than 25 years ago. Perhaps the club felt they no longer needed to lock the gates given the peace process and the fact that the loyalist paramilitaries very kindly took a break from murdering its members. The fact that some gimps dressed up in fancy dress might trespass for a few photos probably never came to their minds.

Do you have the same indignation when playing pitches are invaded for weeks coming up to July by fellas gathering and stacking up pallets on which to burn hateful effigies and symbols? You know like, not a quick instance that would be easy to run in, take a photo, and leave. But an obvious and massive eyesore that is built up slowly over weeks. Will you be back on here next June and July expressing that indignation and calling out the clubs that use those pitches in the run up to the 12th?

I am a GAA member as it happens as are all my family. You could hold a 3 day festival in our grounds and not a one might notice if it was during the week. Unlawful trespass is dealt with by the Gardai, not the volunteer members.

I condemn all paramilitary and triumphalist displays where they are not wanted (and this club didn't want it) whosoever takes part in them. Do you?

But sure only the utter fools that follow that mess would know it was going on. How is a GAA club going to know what's going to happen with anything that isn't to do with their sport.
