A great video showing how La Palma formed in stages.

    Lightning more frequent now.

omg that was my first time seeing lightening on the live stream.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,867 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

New vents are pretty active now. Good show tonight. Love the lightning.

This side of the mountain starting to do it's shape shifting much faster again. Might be changes soon, a new channel or lava vent maybe?

Watched the live stream for a minute or two but saw no lightning so gave up. More interested in the thunder. Is it loud and is it similar to thunder from a regular thunderstorm?

Not much thunder audible, drowned out by the noise of the fissures.

Getting wild tonight. Four vents open.

Just watched the live feed. I'm amazed the birds are still around the area and singing

The rooster is a handy alarm clock.

What happened to those dogs that were on the roof a couple of days ago?

how much new hectares of land has been formed now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,867 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

No major changes today. Main lava vent a little less ferocious than recent days. Other vents still open, still the after burners as another poster put it.

So far there has been 2,395 earthquakes in the region, many exceeding magnitude 3.5.

Some changes now and continuous, frequent lightning. Bonus dust devil on the right?

I read elsewhere that a group regarding these issues has been set up. The short/medium/longterm issues have to be looked into..each household situation very different eg family with school going kids... retired couple/individual..holiday home..farmer...townland..rural..public buildings and bussinesses etc.

At the moment eg. over 200+ people are being put up in a hotel, a very small amount of houses are in the process in two estates are being bought..many are staying with friends/relatives/strangers or rental properties. There is also at least one shelter/processing area with food clothes etc.

People were told to bring their house/land deeds when evacuating or to get them when they went back to retrieve belongings in the hour long time windows they were given when the volcano was less active.

Without checking the map if I remember correctly from the 2 earlier eruptions this century.. especially the 70s.. eg that the new delta land became mainly banana plantations/commercial/industrial. And more of a mix of use were the lava streams were.

I dont know if the issue is more regulated since the last eruption (I presume so) but transperancy is needed especially with large sums of money involved from central government.

It will be a very complex planning situation balancing ,homes, land, industry and the natural habitat/wildlife. Let alone all the new infrastructure needed. And questions of health and safety...possible mineral deposits, tourism and whether some or what land should be added to nat. geo. park.

While many people may want to stay on or nearby as their roots are there, some may want to leave (elsewhere on island or off island temporary or permanent) due the trauma or even practical reasons like schooling or just being unable to start again due to age or health or lack of money/insurance or work options or even citzenship. Or the unlikely hood to obtain like for like land/house on such a small island.

Ordinary people.. householders/small farmers must not miss out and should band together in a situation like this, get legal advise to make sure they do not miss out to those more powerful/wealthy/ or 'in the know'. It could be a very a long and tiring process.

Many landscapes for human inhabitation bring their own challenges ..but the island has been their home for many generations and I wish them well through these strenous times and tough decisions. They as a community have rose to challenge of their situation and are an inspiration to others.

    Possible new vent ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,867 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

It's a lot more intense today overall than it was yesterday and the explosive noises are particularly loud again.

I was actually wondering about that small smoke/ash/gas emission on the right as we look at it earlier but it doesn't seem to have done anything really. Was there the same way this morning.

    Guess just wait and see.

Great drone footage from 6 am today of the current lava flow

I see new downstream off-shoot of the lava is now heading straight for a small local town. The inhabitants were evacuated yesterday. You can see the new branch in this shot bottom right branching in to the foreground tonight. Guess it's always a risk to change course but it also shows the amount of lava coming through what looks like a narrow channel immediately off the mountain - but it's a deep channel holding lots of lava by all accounts.

Just spotted another new branch a bit upstream from there too.

They were worried about this happening last week. I put a screenshot up of the hill they were hoping the flow wouldn’t go around it towards the town but unfortunately it now looks like it will enter the town ..

A huge part of the crater just collapsed. :o Hope someone provides a vid, that was pretty spectacular. All sorts of chaos in there now.

Live footage here showing new large lava flow as a result of partial crater collapse and fires underway now. The set camera position seems to be down.

is there any way of saving those dogs?

Also there is a rooster crowing right now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,867 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

New vent just opened in the lava stream. It's shooting out lava right in the middle of lava stream.

    Lightning now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,867 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

You can see the opening vent here. You can see the lava being projected in to the air in the lava channel.

Is that really the sound of the explosions? Sounds like someone hammering really heavily.
