    Some UK related-ratings news:

    From the Guardian live blog:
    • As the coronavirus outbreak continues to unfold, daytime TV shows - as well as news - have seen a spike in viewing, PA Media reports.
    • ITV Daytime, including shows such as Loose Women and This Morning, reached a six-year high, the broadcaster said.
    • The BBC news bulletin at 6pm had an audience of 8.7 million, its highest figure since Christmas Day 2008.
    • And ITV said its lunchtime news bulletin had its biggest audience since New Year’s Day 2014, with 1.6 million viewers.

Probably likely to see the Irish channels see greater uplift as well. The 5.30,6 and 9 news must be doing great.

One wonders what audience Leo's speech got on Tuesday, probably Toy Show levels.

    1.6m beating them.

Not surprising it was 1.6m as it was the 9 oclock news on a Paddys Day where the pubs were shut and more or less everyone indoors. Probably would have been higher had they announced it earlier, I think word of it happening only came around 8pm?

Any figures out for Tommy Tiernans show and how it stacked up against Darcy in the same slot? And how did our matches in the Six Nations do? Would imagine they are down on last years as a lot of casual viewers I know have lost interest in rugby after the sh1tshow at the World Cup

Massive share and Reach for RTÉ one and VMT ONE

22.6% and 13.5% in Feb. Irish TV just below 50% having hung around 43-45% over the last 5 years.

That 1.6 million figure doesn't include the Virgin ratings and those watching online.

The final figure must be around 1.9 million, possibly the highest rated programme ever.

I think our Euro 2012 game against Croatia had around 2m viewers:

    https://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2012/0611/324567-millions-tune-in-for-republic-of-ireland-clash/

Seems that was reach - 1.2m average.

It's shocking how low the weekly ratings are for RTE2 at the moment. No pubs/nightclubs etc, a lot more people inside than ever before and yet they are struggling really badly against the competition of Netflix/Amazon/Disney.

Top rated is Grand Designs with 94,000. 20th is Secret Life Of Farm Animals with 44,000.

We'll probably see Virgin Media's plummet soon enough when Emmerdale, Corrie and BGT run out of their episodes.

Not that surprising from RTE 2, showing five year old re-runs of Little Sheldon during prime time is not going to draw any good numbers.

Difficult to show five year old re runs of a series that’s only been on air for three years...

Based on Medialive VM TWO and THREE may have increased their audiences in April.

VM ONE's news coverage is improved but no sign of TSOCS

News at 5:30 was its 3rd most watched programme with 190,000 viewers
The Tonight Show across the month had an average of 126,000 viewers
    News at 8 had 123,000
while the additional 30 minutes of news at 6 had 111,000 viewers

    RTÉ news

Nine remains the most watch news programme with 517,000 on average over the month
    Six One has 475,000 viewers
Claire Byrne Live had 436,000 viewers
    Prime Time had 387,000 viewers
RTÉ News special on April 10th had 380,000 viewers

Ireland On Call and Nationwide getting between 290,000 viewers and 340,000 viewers.

A few other stand out ratings there too -

RTE2's 2nd highest show in April was Easter mass.

Virgin Media Two's top show was The Restaurant and got 95,000 on April 4th. That is a surprise hit there. The daily episodes of Heartbeat seem to be doing well - so expect that to be kept at the 8pm slot for a long time. Also note that no Love Island appearing in the Top 20, even thought it's been on about 20 times at 9pm in April. Surprised they don't take quicker action with programmes that are not rating well, and move them.

Also almost all of RTÉ2’s top 20 are films, events and one off, VM2’s are mainly averages, VM3 also had a number of averages over a series of shows this means the full picture for RTÉ2 maybe much worse.

According to a tweet from Rodger Childs RTÉ's head of religious programming says Mass gets 65,000 now not sure if that's an average, but if that is the case then we are talking about audience figures higher than RTÉ2 at times.

407,000 people watched the glenroe repeat?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,804 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

One thing it does show is that when most of the country was still in two-channel land, people would literally watch anything - Fr Dowling Mysteries was essentially a thinly-disguised Father Brown, that was a post-Happy Days vehicle for Tom Bosley. Similarly, the mind boggles that Secrets and Mr Bean were both around the 800,000 mark!

But sure you could always call out all of those programmes if you didn't like them

I mean MacGyver? Towards then end of its run! :) Nah I loved MacGyver, one of the best intros of the 1980s.

Glenroe's repeat followed Home and Away AFAIR.

I would love to know Home and Away's full audience now, I think I read it was getting 150,000 viewers at 1:30 on RTÉ ONE plus the 60,000 or so it gets on RTÉ2 at 6:30, then you have the player where it seems to always be one of their most watched shows, long with both +1 channels and the omnibus editions on RTÉ2.

Remember Star Trek TNG was getting around 500,000 viewers on Saturday nights at the time.

As we all know they had no competition back then. Large section of the population had only Bog 1 and Bog 2.

They could inflate figures for the Late Late by puting on a Romanian Foreign Lanuage Film on Network 2 on a Friday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

I am guessing that Home Rescue The Big Fix is the highest rating non-sports programme of the last decade (okay at least the last 5 years) on RTÉ2?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭iseegirls

I think new episodes of First Dates Ireland do pretty well. Maybe The Young Offenders did well, but you'd have to look back to see official ratings.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,804 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

I'm a Celeb launch gets 256,000 for VM1, which seems decent but unremarkable by its own standards. 333,000 for the rugby, which similarly reflects interest levels in the opposition.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,955 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Are the viewing figures for 6 nations normal like this I know Ireland V Italy would be a relatively small game for series but 418,000 for VMTV one. Ant & Dec not getting into RTÉ's top 20 for a Saturday night with chat shows TLLS and TTTS getting 355,000 and 319,000 respectively.

Is it possible to list the latest viewing figures?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭iseegirls

    Source freely available through medialive.ie

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,046 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Thank you very much for posting ratings.

I know it's impossible to quantify but all ROI channels are widely available in NI so these viewing figures will be greater on the island as a whole especially for any programmes/ sporting events not shown on main UK channels.

they will also be higher because of children, above figures do not include those under 15 years of age. Sports are often under reported on medialive.

RTÉ did once get viewing figures from BARB.

TBH my neighbour watched Six Nation via France 2.
