Perhaps I over analysed but I felt you were attacking me so I'll apologise if I am wrong. Any reasonable discussion is going to have two , perhaps even more differing views, I don't believe that should be described as talking out of both sides of one's mouth.

I don't have the answers, nor the solutions and it's fair to say there's so many different opinions on both sides of the argument things become heated. I've tried to stir clear of for example, F**K masks, its all a cod, give us back our freedoms mantra etc. The country had, I believed made enormous progress , I'm just sensing a ground hog day so to speak and I certainly don't want to see a return to what we've all gone through.

I'm as frustrated as anyone trying to navigate this entire situation, I want to see an end to it, I just believe, rightly or wrongly , the powers that be are making an arse of things .

    IMO opinion of course 😏

It's actually the only chestnut that matters and few if any countries across Europe have our level of vaccination, which is unquestionably blurring the link between hospitalisations and cases.

I actually thought its been quite some time since hospitisation numbers reached 500 and above , ICU numbers separately have dipped by 8 I believe which is a good thing .

I’ve actually noticed that as well which I don’t understand because it’s the one place we don’t have to. Indoors I get and when I’m indoors I wear a mask and that’s fair enough. I mean unless it’s because the cities and towns have noticeably more people around but that would be a guess. Ive seen people out for walks on their own wearing them, although that’s rare but still.

Here in Germany. Looks like lockdown is coming. I live in Bavaria and hospitalisation rates are spiking.

Again and again this. It's no obsession, it's simply common sense. People usually visit few shops doing their shopping. So instead of putting mask on and off in between every shop they go to, they leave it on. It's that simple.

I think you are trying to find more behind that, but in my opinion you are failing.

Yes, it was only yesterday I realised that more and more people are wearing them outdoors.

Nope I won't agree. Well at least as it comes to my point of view. There wasn't much of criticism based on something of value. Apart from the usual narratives, edging with conspiracy theories and freedom whingers twisting about everything you can think of, being pushed through basically from day one. And guess what those kind of arguments didn't change till now, still the same.

That last part of your post, I don't know why those people have the masks on and honestly I don't care. If they happy let them at it. Does it harm you any way? I don't think so.

Just to let you know, you could be labelled as a curtain twitcher, while observing others. There's few posters around using that term.

Why does any of that matter though ?

If people want to wear one in a situation they’re not obliged to, what’s the issue either way ? Personally I generally don’t, but would almost always just leave it on if I’m making several stops, or just simply forget or not bother taking it off until I get home. Meh, I dunno, of all the covid stuff that p1sses me off, I can think of better things to get annoyed about than masks tbh.

Lockdown or some form of restrictions are coming this winter in Ireland, I guarantee you all that.

I know of a hospitality establishment where the staff are all getting sick with 'colds' or 'bugs'. These people are symptomatic. The guidelines are isolate if you have symptoms and test. These guidelines are not being following. They are not testing and believing its colds while they continue working in a customer service role. I know one person who was allowed to continue working in a customer service hospitality role with a cough without testing. The whole lot of staff on the floor are sick with cough but they are still allowed to work.

I know there are colds going around but how does someone establish if they have a cold or covid without testing?

Covid is going to spread and its going to reach into more vulnerable groups including staff in healthcare settings. The health service won't be able to cope if many staff is isolating with symptoms.

I don't want another lockdown. Especially now approaching Christmas.

How many more places are flouting the guidelines on sickness and symptoms and self diagnosing symptoms as colds without testing?

Covid is going to spread. I would concerned about people in the 60 to 70 age bracket who received the AZ dose and the delta variant. If they boosters aren't rolled out as soon as possible to them, I would be concerned that they may overwhelm hospitals while healthcare professionals might be suffering with sickness and isolation.

Lockdown is coming. The more cases there are, the more it's going to spread and covid will reach more people.

The advice we were given by the schools was that it was ok to send the kids to school if they only had nasal symptoms such as a runny nose or sneezing. Adults are probably taking that same advice themselves.

Some people who are coughing may be able to feel the post nasal drip so just assume that it's just the mucus from the cold and that's why they're coughing.

I have no idea if this website is reliable or not but they're saying vaccinated people have different symptoms than unvaccinated people and if that's the case the government should be actually making people aware and updating their guidance related to the most common symptoms.

I wonder could it just be because they're cold. My son really appreciates his when it's cold out!

You really like to stick your head in the sand don't you. The lockdown is coming.

Could you explain why there is a lockdown coming? And define this lockdown,is it back to everything shut again and us unable to travel more than 5km from our homes?

  • Registered Users Posts: 965 ✭✭✭SnuggyBear

Same reason as last year. The health system.

A lockdown to me is when you shut down hospitality and non essential shops and tell people they can't gather.

Irish media crying out for a lockdown creaming themselves with the thought of all the ad revenue they can get from corona related click bait

I don’t think there’ll be another lockdown because I think the government and NPHET are starting to realise that it doesn’t work anyways unless you go nuclear. And we don’t have the funds to keep that going forever.

What I can see is lots more Covid theatre though. Curfews and 9 euro meals etc. It makes the government look good while we are really attempting herd immunity.

The sledgehammer approach. Just casually chuck hundreds of thousands out of work, it'll be grand. The PUP money tree won't plunge us deep into debt, following us for the best part of a generation. What of the over 90% vaccinated, that faithful compliance was worth nought after all and people should never socialise in groups again. Let's villify the predictable sectors, my agoraphobic neighbour confided they're festering swamps for the spread of Covid. There were no trolleys occupying hospital corridors pre-2020 and no flu seasons with associated deaths of the elderly either. Cancer treatments and surgeries can wait indefinitely, a worthwhile sacrifice for a respiratory virus that endangers a tiny minority. After all, we should serve the needs of the health system rather than the other way around. What is this nebulous concept of taxation and public expenditure anyway. Casually normalise the habitual lockdown of society every winter, it's alright because mental health issues are non-existent and everybody can hide behind a laptop and enrich the pension.

    Oh wait.

Any links to the media crying out for another lockdown?

I don't get this notion any media are clammering for another lockdown , it's absurd. Some presenters have an obsession with aspects of the Pandemic, Claire Byrne (schools) ,( P Kenny, antigen testing), Virgin Media (Trick or Treating) but I sense media interest up and down like a yo-yo.

Besides the next two weeks will be taken up with the nonsense happening at COP26 , ironically supposed to deal with climate change targets and only yielding of all things , a lot of hot air that's not coming out of cow's backsides
