Gifting health insurance/paying medical bills

Hi

Have always paid family health insurance and continue to do so.

When your offspring leave the nest, find employment etc and you continue to pay their health insurance as part of your membership and pay their medical bills and claim the refunds under the policy - can you then include their expenses (which you have paid for) in your health expenses tax returns (minus the refunds of course!).

But "yes" is the real answer.

Revenue say

"You can claim relief on the cost of health expenses. These can be your own health expenses, those of a family member or any individual’s, as long as you paid for them."

You can pay the medical expenses of anybody else, and claim tax relief on that expenditure.

Thanks a million for the answers and delighted to hear it's a Yes! I was hoping it would be.

I wonder if that was more well known, might philanthropic people who had spare funds offer more frequently to pay the health expenses of private treatment for people who have to wait years on the public system knowing that they would get some of it back in tax relief🙂.
