Somewhere after Feb 9th of next year. I full expect masks to be with us until then unless cases and hospitalisations tumble.

Germany starting with "a pandemic of the unvaccinated" now as 2300 people are currently in ICU. Makes you wonder how lots of people became scared and hesitant about taking certain vaccines in the first place. Maybe all the political lies like " quassi effective " only 8% effective in older people had Germany holding 24 million vaccines they could not use, never mind the distrust that spread to other areas like Eastern Europe.

Looks like being a bit of a blunder for lots of people now

    Hi Guys,

What is the turnaround time on tests these days? My son was sent for a test (11am yesterday) . How long typically before the result is recieved?

My employer is not as understanding about these things as they were before. It's a tricky balancing act with both parents working outside the home.

Germany are at 80% of eligible or 65% of total population. That's way down on us and the UK. That level of vaccination seems to matter more. This was him less than a month ago. He's excitable in a Donnelly type of way!

80% of the RTE item today is on how cases aren't leading to a proportionate rise in hospitalisations and the harm is much less that in January.

Where did I say any business was closed? The point I'm making is if we keep closing things and hiding from covid we won't have money to run the country

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,549 ✭✭✭brickster69

That is my point. Other countries became more hesitant it was not lack of supply.

Businesses are open yet with restrictions. Life has to move on. I supported NPHET at the start but they have become more political and a more one trick pony as time went on. Their continual obstinance as regards Antigen testing finished my support with them. It is not the silver bullet but we should use any and all tools available to fight this thing.

As for RTE do not get me started!! We had Miriam on Prime Time last night practically begging Stephen Donnelly to introduce more restrictions, creaming herself when he said they wouldn`t, I couldn't believe what I was watching. Certain figures in RTE like her, Joe Duffy, Claire Byrne, Pat Kenny on Newstalk have induced a such mass hysteria/psychosis in this country that to even contemplate or suggest trying to live normally or towards it is taboo! I personally know of people afraid to leave their house after listening to these people even though they are vaccinated! It will take them years to recover! People who travel abroad can see the difference in attitude. These media people have a serious reach, listenership can drive a particular agenda and it will be lapped up! I am more frightened of this fact more so than covid! They are already off now on climate change so god knows what we will have to suffer next! I despise each and every one of them over their carry on throughout this whole episode. I wouldn`t mind if there was a serious debate on our response but there has not been one!

It simply comes down to this now:

    • The vulnerable will always be vulnerable, long before Covid and will be long after so we have to give them the supports needed to protect them but we cannot shut down life indefinitely because its Covid. What unseen (I use the term loosely) consequences have lockdowns, restrictions introduced such as physical and mental health issues, it will take years to get the truth and by then it will be too late. I would venture a guess and say the reason why cases have gone up is because we were locked down so long so didn`t socialise as much so when we start to open up cases go up.
    • We are 93% plus vaccinated, gone through the longest restrictions/lockdowns in Europe, yet the mass hysteria in this country it is like March 2020! It will take years to undo the damage being done by our myopic response to it. it is like a cult here! The campaign against the unvaccinated being cheer led by some already mentioned is so disgusting to me and is only a con/spin/deflection job to distract the fools like me from a poorly managed health service. HSE Management spend more time talking down to the public on TV/radio and apportioning blame to whatever section of society it is this week i.e. UK, pregnant women, 5-12 year old's! As i said before they need to get off the airwaves and sort out the health service which has received billions in funding! They also have no understanding of human behavior! If I had my way they would all be f""ked out!
    • Certain media types, politicians, Doctors advocating further restrictions should pay for them out of their own pockets as they do not suffer the consequences of restrictions / lockdowns! Interesting as previous posters have said they are a certain age group least affected by this. Like I have seen any body who is anti lockdown is seen as selfish however to me most of those advocating for further restrictions are the most selfish as they are looking only through the prism of covid, nothing else matters!
    • What are we doing to our young people, probably suffered the most and will have to pick up the tab for our hysteria, stupidity and non questioning attitude to our response! There was some survey this morning mentioning the damage restrictions/lockdowns had on college age group. If I was one of these young people at a certain age I would be gone out of here in a heart beat. Its shambolic!

The response to a pandemic has to be proportionate and balanced, Irelands has not been regardless of what the Taoiseach says about Bloomberg's resilience survey or anyone else says!

Like I said before it will take a serious scandal involving NPHET, government and/or HSE to knock Ireland off this wave of hysteria and quite frankly the sooner the better!

What I'm finding utterly bizarre is that it only seems to apply to (being applied) some circumstance. My eldest kids do a few different sports. Basketball is cancelled, but before that we had to fill in contact tracing forms for everyone attending and show vaccine status. Another sport is going ahead, didn't mention vaccines, but we're filling out covid declarations (no symptoms, haven't been out of the country, not a close contact) for every time there is training or a match. Yet another (admittedly outdoors) appears to have no covid requirements at all. An indoor fairly physical activity (though not a contact sport) has no covid requirements other than for spectators (one per child, vaccinated). Swimming is one adult per child and no other requirements. I seem to spend my life filling in forms or checking what rule applies to what activity, because there is absolutely no consistency between them.

My dad went for a test in Limerick at about 8am and got the results about 4pm the next day.

Thank you Jim good to see a poster who pays attention.

Some should relax instead of jumping in every time Covid is mentioned on RTE like a child trying to answer all teachers questions before someone else.

Philip Nolan recommending people limit their contacts in the coming weeks.

What is the legal position of NFHET making these recommendations? Do they have to consult the government before making such statements?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Lower at 460 and 86 in ICU. Highest incidence in cases in 19-24 age group so far less likely to affect those hospital totals.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,656 ✭✭✭✭Jim_Hodge

They're reporting 3174 with 460 in hospital and 86 in ICU.

And "HSE's Chief Clinical Officer has said the flood wall of vaccine protection is holding tight, despite the surge in Covid-19 cases."

    It's only public health advice.

There's nothing binding with public health advice.

It's public health advice coming from a public health body. Your free to take it or leave it.

Why would a legal position come into it?

    Ultimately it’s only advice.

Still though, the government should be the ones responsible for leading.

NPHET advising people to work from home and limit contacts contradicts government advice

Judging by Dublin traffic this a.m. I'm not sure how much of that working from home is being observed either!

Nice drop in ICU cases today. The opening of niteclubs and entertainment for those vaccinated has not done any harm.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

More details from the presser. The second one will get the government out with more warnings.

The growth rate is consistent with an R number between 1.4 and 1.5

An Amarach Research survey shows one in four people visiting hospitality last weekend did not have their Covid-19 Certificate checked.

Great to see hospital and ICU numbers dropped again but we all know there's a lag, so I expect those numbers to increase in again over the next week or so. If not... meaningful Christmas for all!

That waffler Colm Henry and the rest of his gang need a kick up the backside. The bullshit artistry needs to stop. Stop lying to everybody. its really obvious and insulting now. #Schools are safe me hole.

Gov and Nphet just seem out of ideas and unwilling to try anything different. They put all their eggs in the vaccine basket and then decided to just put their heads in the sand. And now we are where we are.

Its still mind boggling that they haven't mandated some form of ventilation policy for indoor premises yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

There used to be a lag but debatable now, especially with boosters starting in the over 60s. The numbers are large in 19-24 age group, not where you generally expect to find hospital cases.

Tony just confirmed at the presser that the viral load in the vaccinated can be the same as the unvaccinated.
