Beepbeep.ie has all the stats I assume that’s the one you’d of seen in the past.

I actually had googled it just after posting and found that site. Sometimes I make posts and then afterwards I would google it.

Used To be a regular here and drifted away apart from the odd post. Sad to see this place is so quiet. Facebook must have hoovered up all the ‘mature’ users and I presume all the youth are on tiktok.

Does anyone think there’s a way to kickstart things here?

But if you think about it this site was at it's peak years ago. I was young many years ago using this site and there has been no activity from youngsters any more for many years. I'm in my late 30's now. The site has not been attracting young people for a long time from what I can tell anyway.

I agree with everything your saying. I noticed that in the past 3-5 years traffic had slowly decreased but the new site really turned a lot away from boards not just this forum. I actually had to switch to the desktop version earlier on as the search function on the mobile site is as usefull as a knitted condom.

Putting the new site aside I think many posters here in the motors forum left due to the attitude and snobbery of some that was quite prevalent a while back. I'd even go as far to say that some of the clicks on here drove many away. I'd reckon there's probably only 10 or so posters (if even) who have being consistently active over the years who have stuck around.

Not just here that it happened though. The Airsoft forum on here was probably one of the most active after here and After Hours and it eventually became the Chernobyl equivalent of boards. That forum could be toxic at times back in the day!

I miss the old user cp alright.

I remember a uproar years when a few members had a local meet up mid week that they didn't invite everyone to. A massive thread followed and I thought 'why am I wasted my time here with this crap?'

A vicious pile on on Anan1 for having a different opinion really finished it for me.

I remember that now that you mention it. Sure there hasn't been a meet in years now and this was before covid.

In terms of vag being very good, I put car in for dsg oil change, which needs specialists tools. After this there was still bolts missing in the covers underneath. I was too mean to pay for full service but I was not impressed by that.

Pricing also varies by dealer which suggests it's made up, 4 hours for dsg and full service might be fair, but I doubt mechanic only completes 2 cars a day. I can imagine them hopping between a few cars. Look at the NCT check list and they roughly follow it in 15 minutes. I can do an oil and filter change on driveway in 15 minutes including jacking.

I don't think a main dealers mechanic life is easy, but I think pricing does not reflect costs.

Long story, but can anyone tell me for sure if this will cause a fail in the NCT? I’m assuming it will as it’s a jagged edge? But I can’t find anything in the NCT manual mentioning interior plastics.. Or Would it be an option that I take out that section of the center console? Is it allowed to have some of the center console missing?? Thanks.

It will pass they do not test the condition of the inside only seats and seat belts. And indicters and steering wheel.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭job seeker

Cheers! Would it pass if I took it out and it was missing!? It’s just not sitting in right with that part broken. Just in two minds about it..

first time on the M50 today with the new variable speed limits in action, between ballymun junction and finglas junction - traffic was at a (to me) unexplained standstill for a couple of minutes. can't say the speed limits seemed to do anything but reflect the speed of the vehicles (unless they themselves were the cause of the slowdown)

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭job seeker

Yup! Indeed it is, I have it four years (if I remember correctly) last May! 140k miles on it now! Running like a dream still! NCT tomorrow at 9:30 pm. I only replaced a bulb (and cracked that interior part 😂) in preparation! So it’ll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow!! What have you got now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭job seeker

Got the center console slotted in! I was moving it out of the way for the hoover and it just sat into place!! Cheers for the advice Wotz!

The two yellow prices look out of place a bit! 😂 By right I should have went for a darker shade of something. Although yellow is what I had at hand! 😅

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,855 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

You need to paint the heater vents and radio surround aswell for that yellow to work

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭job seeker

Yeah I see what you’re saying. I have a yellow shifter and I was gonna do the silver one parts on the steering wheel yellow.. that was the idea anyway! I’ll definitely take your advice on board though as you’re right! Thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

Thats deadly. I still see my old one now and again. Also had an 06 one a few months ago but only for the purpose of cleaning it up and making a few quid off it. Driving an Mk3.5 ST Focus tdci these days. Even that's not as firm as the Civic 😅

Do you miss your Civic?! From what I remember you painted it Matt black! I thought that was so cool with the gold alloys! I’m just back from the test center now. Failed on a wheel bearing so happy enough, I was expecting a lot worse! Just gotta get that sorted and we’ll be ready for the road again! ah Focus are a decent car! Especially the ST version! 😎

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

Nah mine was a silver executive model, you'd never catch me with gold alloys 😅 I miss the whole reliable petrol aspect but that's about it. They are pokey and revvy which was good. The firm suspension was a real killer imo, especially when I was delivering take aways at the time. My msport 320d or the ST are definitely not as bad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭job seeker

I’ve got no idea who I’m thinking of so! 😅 Yeah reliability is a big plus! As for the stock suspension it was pretty bad alright! That’s a nice example you had there though!!

I don't have alloys on my car so flew over a speed bump and heard a thump and then tyre pressure warnings came up on dash and stayed there till I got to a garage to put some air in. Tried all four and they had perfect pressure but still done a few zips in. Worked anyway as the warnings went. Stupid cars with them damn pressure monitoring units.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,657 ✭✭✭CIP4

Did the warning go off by itself ? Normally once is comes on you have to reset it for it to go off adjusting the pressure of the tyres isn’t enough to reset it. They can be annoying I have got far more false alarms than a warning caused when a tyre was actually low pressure.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

They went off themselves but was probably due to me trying to reset it numerous times when the warnings came on. I drove at least 20 kms after trying to reset till I got to the garage. Odd one.

so someone mulled over; 'hey, how can we combine bicycles, getting fit, and getting to work' - and their answer was 'a car'.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

A standard bike is miles better no traffic jams that contraption you will still be sitting there in traffic but dry from the rain but soaking wet from sweat as your are in a enclosed area with heat from your body. It's a totally flop of a contraption.

I got my service done Monday took 5.5 hours and that was without them cleaning the outside of the car as I asked them not too. To be fair there was an intermittent rattle in the dash so I took the car out with a technician to try replicate it which was a good idea they suggested so obviously that and them trying to fix it would of added to the time.

Car got oil/air/fuel/pollen filters changes, engine oil change, DSG oil change and Ad blue top up. Along with the usual inspection / video / software updates etc.

When I bought the car they threw in a service pack and I thought nothing of it at the time but to be fair it stands to save me a fair bit of money probably 800-900 euro. Includes two major services, DSG oil change, Ad Blue top ups and a brake fluid change.

I met the salesman that sold me the car he couldn't believe I had 30k km on it so quick 🙈
