Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Just to say as well I’m talking about north Leinster and west county dublin area.

maybe he is far more popular down in the “real capital” cork ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,251 ✭✭✭Mav11

Not so popular with this Corkonian.

Strange as it might seem, I feel Halligan is sensible enough…..

Rex Ryan got a great plug…hmmmmm. … wonder if Rex and Ballsy have the same agent……..uhmmm

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,800 ✭✭✭ShamNNspace

What happened to that ballsy guy who wasn't afraid to have an opinion that went against the concensus from time to time all those years ago, where'd it all go wrong Brendan (edit.. the Brendan on the radio 😉) ?

Brendan is interviewing some gent saying if you reach 80 and have money to spare, it is really your onus to give it away.

That was Jeffrey Archer former MP and author.

It's probably safe to say that his idea of spare money is a bit different to your average joe.

To be fair to him he is trying to do some good with the money.

I think older people in general tend to be good supporters of charities, within their personal financial limitations of course.

Trying to make amends before the big judgement.

Next Man City manager: You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest **** dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bloody cheating.

Brendan’s fear of litigation is getting way out of hand.

    Reasonable chat about Alec Baldwin.

....and since we're still in the Pandemic we must get a poem... Click.

Absolutely brutal. Listen listen listen...followed by some "cast down" biddy wittering on about Covid.

Prior to that they were discussing the burden on Alec Baldwin, in that it will be talked about ad infinitum. And proceeds to talk about it ad infinitum.

Poor Bobby Kerr doesn't sound very well today, but I've resorted to him rather than stomach any more of that crap.

The medical person on now is the clearest and non-stoking-up fear expert I've heard in ages.

I can almost hear BOC being a bit disgruntled that she is.

Here's Katie Hannon on to redress that balance.

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

‘Nooze ‘Hannon will use every opportunity to have a cut at anyone not in opposition.

Will have the deck well stacked , just like auld Vinny back in the day.

Must listen to the Pod later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,039 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

Might be a good idea to give it a miss, B. No sense in getting yourself all “riled up” before bed.

Best you just finish that mug of Ovaltine and head on up. Maybe throw that pair ‘Billy Boxers’ in the bin, they’ve suffered enough. Can pick up another 3 pack in Guineys next time your passing.

Have to say, I wouldn’t mind Katie having a cut at me, if you know what I mean?

Could have something there E, I did listen to the Pod and it was Bobby Troy agin the field if I remember correctly.

Nooze jumped in whenever he was speaking and of course the Wexford one tried to dominate everything.

At least Aodháin tried to be a bit objective.

Ended in a shambles as usual as Nooze mismanaged the time yet again and had to cut them off

Wouldnt be throwing the Sloggies into the bin too rapid E, expensive kecks there, I always hold on to them till they are fully ‘perished’

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,849 ✭✭✭Brian Scan

Have you ever ripped a new one in the older kecks?

Heheh have to really chortle at Ballsy this morning discussing the Opening of nightclubs and stuff.

For the last fohhking month RTE have been up front and central championing the Night Industry……top of every news bulletin, subject in almost every programme, spokespersons and industry leaders on speed dial.

Nothing seemed to matter to them (RTE) other than opening up the night clubs.

Now Ballsy seems to be rowing back on all this, now that the whacko has hit the fan.

I Will however give him credit for ripping the Norah one on being accused of being a ‘devils advocate’.

Ballsy hopped on her explaining he was not a “devils advocate” but putting a bit of balance to the show.

Hope Nooze Hannon was listening……………………………………… ummmm .😯

Why is Beefy calling Thunberg Toonberry?

Those who caught the intro this morning will know what I mean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,608 ✭✭✭✭elperello

Query replied to by BOC with some style.

Apparently it is the correct pronunciation.

    ps.news to me too :-)

    He’s talking bollocks.

Good to have a comedian like Jack Dee on for a change, makes a change from the usual clowns who thinks they are so funny that they cant stop laughing at their own jokes,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,608 ✭✭✭✭elperello

I thought he pulled it off fairly well but I'm not sure is he trolling Greta, Pat Kenny, the listeners or all of the above?

Besides you say that about him every week anyway 🙂

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,677 ✭✭✭Happydays2020

One of his better shows today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Pelvis Parsley

Thankfully, he has you to defend him so valiantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,608 ✭✭✭✭elperello

You know that not attacking isn't the same as defending ?

Besides, I'm sure the same lad is well able to defend himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,039 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

Pat Kenny started that. He started saying it, and explaining why, but it just sounds ridiculous.

PK is like that. He loves winkling out little bits of detail and throwing them into the mix.

And here we are on a Saturday evening discussing the the deeper recesses of Swedish pronunciation.

Maybe PK is the trolls troll 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,646 ✭✭✭RINO87

Agree 100%, Pats trolling is on another level he's playing a caricature of himself half the time and it just winds people up soooo bad!

Miriam O’Callaghan is at it now. She said ‘now that we all know how to pronounce it, thanks to Brendan and Pat’.

After Lara Marlowe, who seemed completely taken aback that, after she left her husband for Robert Fisk, he left her for another woman.

So much so , she wrote the obligatory book about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,608 ✭✭✭✭elperello

PK still setting the agenda at RTE 8 years after he left it 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

I’ll tell you sommit ,pal, neither Ballsy, or Miriam, are presenters I would put down as experts of pronunciation….

Between ‘Nooze’ and “Moi ghasts todai “ …….

    Even a diehard like you could t defend those two……….and there’s more….🤣

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,748 ✭✭✭Pelvis Parsley

He seems to have toned down on the c'mere, listen, c'mere to me nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

    Yeah, no harm there.

In my opinion P this show is rapidly circling the drain, basically one hour on a Sunday before getting some dude on about mental health and then couple of grunts on about upcoming shows.

Looks like it’s been “limited” to when a guest has droned on for a bit too long.

Yep, that's about it. RTE (aka the millionaire factory) have taken the lazy route on pretty much every programme. They do a little bit of work at the start of the season - setting out the format of the show - then stick to that format rigidly. They are uber strict about going to an ad break at the specified time. There could be something/someone interesting on and then 'I'm running out of time so thanks, bye'. Can't think/act on the fly - Total amateurs - it's like a hospital staffed completely by 3rd year medical students...on consultants pay!

A perfect example of the above :- If you listen to Drive Time you know there is the BS slot just before 17.00 hrs. BS banter and fake laughing and generally a load of horse. So, on the day of the massive suicide bombing outside Kabul airport (it was all over every media TV/radio show) I was thinking - 'They can't do the BS slot today, they just can't' Lo and behold, on comes the stupid BS slot. There were people getting power-washed off the ******* walls in Kabul and Cormac is giggling like a spa.

    Idiots!

no offence to 3rd yr med students

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Shure didn’t they ruin poor John with the same crap when he had the 9-10 gig.

The 0900 - 0910 ‘ banter’ period……and they try the same on Drivetime.

Anybody who knows anything about radio knew John wasn’t spontaneous.

All you have to do is listen to Sport Sat and Sun… like reading from a copy book.

Took them five years to figure out that.

    spot on Gineral

Brendan speaking to Mary O’Rourke thinking she would say she’s frightened of her life with the current level of cases but she keeps saying that she’s holding back a bit but understands that businesses can’t be closed forever.

He keeps trying to make her say something like she’s very scared etc but she’s being very level-headed about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,042 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Maybe Miriam could get PK to teach her how to say the word 'genuinely' properly.

Meeeriam can’t even pronounce her own name properly, so it’s a ‘no’ on that.

I think she probably can BB but she chooses to affect her accent.

    Which is even more irritating.

I liked the 1st hour this morning. A fairly even handed discussion and expressing of opinions regarding Covid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 822 ✭✭✭newcavanman

Has this show moved from Radio One to Covid FM ? BOC and his constant scaremongering about Covid and slavishly following the NPHET line is a pain . The only thing this programme has , is the lack of decent opposition . heard a bit of the show yesterday and the interview with Bill Bailey was cringeworthy. asking bailey was " He a national treasure ?" I always thought that was a very British phrase, which is surprising given the usual anti british stance on RTE

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Hmmm… think we have one of the biggest increase in infections in Europe since we succumbed to lobbying of the ‘Night Industry’

Surprisingly very little heard from their lobbyists who had more air time on RTE than some of the presenters over the last few months.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭I see sheep

'Succumbing' to NPHET and nonsense lockdowns has been the problem all along.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,441 ✭✭✭jippo nolan

It’s up there with “the Nation’s Sweetheart”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

And tell us what your qualifications in Pandemic Medical Management are?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭I see sheep

I have more common sense than a 4 year old, so that would rule me right out of a role in NPHET, I agree with you there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,750 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Great…. No qualifications….. keep on sledding dude.

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

BOC is a national disgrace, could be auditioning for Pravda the way he carries on.

That interview with BB was appalling. Face off between two steely ambitious career non-comedians who refused to be the performing monkey for the other. But both dying to be openly vulnerable to discuss mental health (or weight!) issues. It's more entertaining hearing BOC ensure there's "balance" in the Covid conversations. Ha ha!
