Interesting to see how Wright throws in this. He has been shocking of late and looks to be in serious decline.

Serious decline he is not. He won a tournament two months ago. Won five tournaments this year including the World matchplay.

In fairness, he has been mostly terrible since winning the Matchplay but as usual it's down to his tinkering with his darts. He's gone out in the 1st Round in the last 3 TV tournaments so he is definitely in danger of not getting out of the groups in this if he's still messing around with his setup.

Dimi out due to positive Covid test. I'm not sure how they decided that Dobey was first replacement.

Don't know how Dobey got in, thought Aspinall would've been next in line

It seems to be above board, in that Dobey was the next in line via number of Players Championship events won which is the second level of qualification.

Great start to tournament with that Joyce v Bunting game. Hopefully lots more of that to come

Bad loss for King and he still has Clayton to deal with

Johnny Clayton & Michael Smith........i just LOVE their way of throwing!!!!!!!!

No way would I write off snakebite, ok so he's been poor in 2021 but he does love the big stage.

As a total " aside" ..... I got tickets for the Ally Pally next year.......am I looking forward to that or what????

Jesus Wade is plumbing new depths of crap!!!

Was Wade throwing his dummy out of the pram at the end there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Rafferty was really unlucky against Price there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭ThebitterLemon

very poor attempt at 82, pressure told in the end, but fair play pushed him to the wire

    Today was very enjoyable.

Tonight looks a bit dull though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Commentator: "It's a hard game to call"

MvG was 1/12 with the bookies ffs!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

    Very dominant performance from MVG

Joe Cullen throwing some lovely arrows!!!!

    Some great scoring this evening

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Cullen and MVG certain to get out of the group after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,984 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Poor fare so far this evening, every game seems to be 5-0 or 5-1, hopefully the last few games liven things up

Good game there between Smith and Barney

As usual Smith talks a good game in his interview afterwards.

I predict he'll fill his togs in the quarters/semis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭shockframe

Schindler his usual self but Rafferty looks a decent player.

Rusty Jake was happy there with his 107 out... He's been good on the doubles from what I've seen of him.. Might be decent when he settles, and doesn't have to prove how good he is...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Ashton played well but big John just played better

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,366 ✭✭✭Porthallian

I like Fallon Sherrock, but part of me hopes she crashes out as I'm sick of these OTT promos and the ridiculous amount of coverage she's given. That whole Liam Gallagher Shockwave VT was cringe.

    Tidy darts from Sherrock there

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Wonder what the odds of a 5 nil were? De Decker was terrible hitting a 75 avg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Sherrock played class though. She never gave him a chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,038 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Qualifying needs to be looked at - Nathan Aspinall no. 9 in the world and not playing? That's nonsense...

Chris dobey and gerwyn price............ double @ 11/8,,,,,,,,,,, worth €20, I fancy both to win

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,366 ✭✭✭Porthallian

Think Dobey needs a 5-0 win to have any chance of qualifying as he's currently on -4 legs. Wonder will that effect him if it goes 2-2 for example

Edit: ignore that. Rowby-John and Bunting already have 2 points each. Dobey was out regardless of this result.

Jeez, Dobey made hard work of those last st couple of legs.......Ryan threw some nice arrows

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Class effort from Schindler. Some amount of 140's he hit mid game to the end

Jeez...... lost my €20 on Price!!!!!!!

Brilliant final/9th leg from Schindler.......I DID NOT see that coming

    Jaysus, some height on Boris!

Krcmar leaving in a complete huff there 😄

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,366 ✭✭✭Porthallian

Not sure what was up with big Boris there? Didn't even shake hands with Williams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Nice match between Brooks and Rusty. Great pace of play and they hit plenty of 180's. Just a bit ropey on the doubles which was understandable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

    Ratajski fairly blew that one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

    Class darts from Rowby John

In fairness the qualifying criteria is known well in advance and Aspinall didn't do enough to qualify. He has no one to blame but himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭shockframe

Most of the players are aware that the GSOD is not run in the same manner as the other PDC events. It was originally sold as PDC v BDO.

To be fair to him Aspinall hasn't complained about it yet. He has about 40 tournaments a year so its a long way away from the years before Hearn got involved.

It was a bit odd that Wade and Gando were moaning about the BDO being included before. It helped them build their reputation and a lot of the BDO players switched anyways. They were slightly fortunate they were there just before the PDC pro tour got extremely tough.

First 4 games tonight should all be fairly straightforward....

Michael Smith, Joe Cullen, MVG& mensur suljovic......... hard to see any of them NOT winning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,816 ✭✭✭TheChrisD

Hard to see, but Smith is seemingly doing his best to make it a reality 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,038 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Yes indeed, but I' have thought that for a TV tournament of this magnitude you might have an exemption for the top 10

I'd rather see Aspinall play over some of the dross on show this week

And don;t get me started on Barney......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,489 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

How on earth did Sherrock do that? That was unreal! and 170 to win it out after 4 legs on the spin! Just class :D

Especially after blowing the first leg

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭shockframe

Holy 170 match winning checkout Batman!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

141 and 170 were class checkouts. She looked to have hit more 140s than Clemens as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,520 ✭✭✭shockframe

    Great performance from Anderson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,576 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

It's kind of an anomaly the way it's worked out in his case, but I don't think it means there's a flaw with the qualifying.

Like either winning or runner-up in any of the last 10 TV tournaments would have got him a place. Or winning just 2 of the 30 floor events. It's actually pretty mad that he's maintained a ranking of 9 without fulfilling either of those criteria. Clearly he's had lots of quarter/semi appearances along the way, which will continue to get him into the TV stage of all the other events. This one is like a 'Champion of Champions' event rewarding those who binked an actual win, even if some of the wins are in dubious events/challenger series.
