I never had a single puncture in the i3 in the nearly 4 years I had it and 122,000 odd Kms I drove it.

No puncture in the Leaf for the 3 years either, guess I've been lucky.

And yes, I'm on plenty of bad rods too.

Gave her a wash yesterday, and it rains, typical. Anyway, got the Karcher K4 and their cleaning shampoo/Wax, pretty good stuff. Puts a nice shine on it too. Even more surprised when I tried out the high power nozzle, It lifts moss something amazing. Will definitely be handier than sweeping the yard and trying to scrape off moss.

I only ever had 1 flat in the Leaf. Not a puncture as such ether, I hit the edge of a section of rough road when I had to pull in tight to the verge to avoid a speeding idiot. Ripped a 6 inch tear into it lol. Had to drive home on the rim which was only about half a km thankfully.

Few small punctures in the ID3 due to screws etc, always quick easy repairs though.

    This was yesterday's culprit...

Lol. Good thing it was so bad though. I has to use the spray stuff to get home and I know many tyre places won't touch the tyre for a repair simply because the spray makes it too hard to find the source of the puncture

    No difficulty on that front..

Also got my new rims & winter tyres matched up and fitted while I was there. £45 for the lot, rims/tyres married up, swapped for the Andoyas, and the puncture repaired.

Looking good Phil, you must be expecting a lot more cold weather!

Do the mud flaps make much of a difference ?

Looks like that concrete could do with a good power wash lol 🤣

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,295 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Power washing the concrete is a pain in the ass because there's so much of it and because our water (well supply) doesn't have enough pressure to effectively use the washer for so long.

I live on a hilltop in rural Donegal so the winters are a must.

The mud flaps are good, but I do still end up filthy at time because the roads are so minging.

For those who received their cars. How long did it take to receive the car after the vin number appeared under "Vehicle Details" on Volkswagen site? I ordered id3 Business early July and VIN number has appeared today, so trying to get an idea of timeline.

  • Registered Users Posts: 683 ✭✭✭Sam the Sham

I ordered my Business model also in mid-July. Had the VIN in late September and was told by dealer that car entered Ireland on 5 November. I’m putting off collecting it until January with dealer’s OK.

I think there’s an element of randomness to all of this. I’m guessing a lot depends on the exact spec including colour and, especially, whether they have the chips needed for precisely the spec/options you ordered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 imPhilip

Thanks for that, good to know. yes ordered July 5th, Business model and everything as standard in moonstone. Initially told 12 weeks but knew that date would never be met so never pushed them on it.

Might speak with the dealer though regards holding it to January if it does come happen to come in before then.

Does anyone with the matrix led lights find they point a bit high when on dip mode? I feel like I'm one of those drivers who blinds everyone because their dip lights are out of whack

I looked in the settings and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust it, I assume the lights just point themselves down slightly to dip

Also, am I the only person who thinks the indicators are ridiculously bright? I can light up a darkened street with them, seems like overkill 😁

I met a car yesterday evening/night and his dipped lights were out of alignment. I was blinded but not so much that I thought his full were on. And a big que of cars behind him.

Ouch! Hope this isn't bad news for anyone who has orders in. Only a 1 week shutdown so not too bad, but hopefully it isn't the first of several

Interesting thing they say that Zwickau hadn't been affected by semiconductor shortages as badly as other plants. For example it mentions that Golf production has been halted multiple times

Maybe all the people who got told their cars were delayed becuase of semiconductor shortages are being sold some BS and it's just down to production backlog

If it's true, then it's probably a good sign that VW is giving prioirty to ID cars over their popular ICE cars

The Matrix headlights don't dip they adjust the beam pattern to avoid blinding the driver while lighting up the ditch, very convenient, they're fantastic, they can get caught out the odd time but think there's a setting to adjust their reaction time.

I'll start a conspiracy theory (or maybe a Christmas wish) that this is actually due to the mythical 12-inch infotainment system that's supposed to come in for units built in November.

Needless to say, it's just wishful thinking from me as I've a build week of 49 that will probably pushed out past Christmas with this week-long pause.

Yeah I've gotten to test out the adaptive full beams a few times recently. They're absolutely fantastic, well worth the money. They make night driving much simpler

Did your ID3 come with Airstop tyres? I was wondering how puncture resistant they really are are and if they need specialist repair, as they come with repair goo pre-installed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,295 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Good question, I'm not sure to be honest. Possibly, as I didn't actually get a goo kit with it. I noticed one in the loaner ID3 I had when the scratch on mine was being repaired and asked the dealer why I didn't have one.

He wasn't sure, so gave it to me lol.

8% degradation in Chris’s car has been confirmed by a VW dealer. Not great news for us. Hopefully the scale of degradation won’t have too much impact on the trade in values…

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,460 ✭✭✭jogdish

do we know if a lot of rapid charges at ionity has an effect, I would imagine he uses them more than an average person.

  • Registered Users Posts: 946 ✭✭✭Rusky rusky

I’m sure it does. He admitted that he used ionity frequently and charged to 100%, but still a big degradation over 24k. I wonder whether VW will regret giving a 8 year warranty for 30% degradation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,040 ✭✭✭Jofspring

He says it in the video. He did a lot of High power charging. You'd assume that's had a big effect..

Don't most electric cars lose a big chunk early on and then it tapers off. For example 20,000km and you might lose 6 or 7% but then the next 50,000km you might only lose another 3 or 4%?

That's what I was thinking, like I'm sure VW did tests and accounting on the 30% figure, this is a battery platform they are heavily invested in. Guess we will all learn in time. Still waiting on mine :) hope I made the right choice in the car and the varient.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,295 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Yeah I'm reasonably optimistic that it's his self confessed battery abuse that accounted for much of it. He uses rapids constantly and regularly rapid charged right to 100% for various testing efforts.

    By no means normal use.

Has anyone managed to get their credit from SSE Airtricity yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,367 ✭✭✭JimmyVik

What are the on the road prices for the ID3?

Also is there any app like leaf spy to test the battery degradation.

That 8% degradation over 24k is savage degradation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,456 ✭✭✭✭fits

For the tour 5 it’s about 41 k I think. More for tour.

  • Registered Users Posts: 520 ✭✭✭electricus

Still waiting. I was told to allow 60 days but that’s passed and no credit on my account.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,391 ✭✭✭✭Calahonda52

I have 67,000 on a 30 kW leaf over 4 years and still 12 bars.

Limited enough fast charging, most on granny cable

I have my ID3 on the granny since yesterday: 26 hrs for 100% from 4%, heading off once its full at noon

Yeah I’m still waiting for our night meter too. Half considering giving up and just activating the smart meter.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,039 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I signed up to a night Rate with Energies around this time last year on their 41% discount plan and just got my most recent bill today.

Unit rate at night time when I signed up was 6.01c and it's now 8.27c (both ex vat). Time to shop around again.

I was the same. Just changed to Electric Ireland was the cheapest day/night I could find.

Dont go near smart meters. All far more expensive than the day/night plans.

And if you get a smart meter you cant go back to day/night meter, even though a smart meter should be well able to handle the same hours. Smart plans in Ireland are a total con, and only for the financially challenged I think.
