Redmi Note 10 arrived. 128GB, grey.

-Bought Eir Payg Sim Friday with 10 euro credit

-Used it up on my own phone which is Sim free over weekend

-Ordered Redmi Note 10 online Sunday afternoon

-Had DPD notification on Monday via SMS that order would be delivered Tuesday

-Order delivered by my local DPD guy half an hour ago. Also had SMS notification for that

-Eir sim still not ported!! But don't care as throw away. Strange though as I requested immediate port on VF website when ordering, so VF not doing themselves any favors if they want to drum up new business.

Also no contact from VF at any stage by text or email which is odd I think but who cares now. Only contact was from DPD.

So I had a smooth process.

I ordered using an eir SIM that was barred from outgoing calls (old not used for months) but accepted the incoming text from Vodafone with the code. Ordered, got a confirmation email from Vodafone but who knows if it'll get any further than that. How quickly do cancellation emails usually take?

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

They dont notify you of cancellation. Best check with them using the chat feature after a day or so

gave it another go with a new registered 48 sim, sure why not!

"We will send you your contract to the email address provided, it will also be available for review in MyVodafone".

    Contract???

I've been in this rodeo before with the Pixel but decided to go again.

Ordered yesterday using a Lyca sim. Order confirmation email received but nothing else. Reading the thread it looks like delivery is via DPD.

Left my Lyca phone at home and when I came in from work this evening there was a text from DPD about a planned delivery this morning. Nothing around the house.

Logged on using the DPD link and it was about a delivery to the other end of the country but the person had the same mobile number as the one I was porting.

Still, a wee bit of excitement before the inevitable let down.

Legally obliged-EU law to send a contract(operable about a year now).It means nothing - you are probably going for a 30 day sim only offer.Nothing to worry about.

How long are refunds taking after contacting chat ?

Was last week they promised 3-5 days ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,380 ✭✭✭.red.

Vodafone are probably releasing the funds straight away when the order is cancelled. It can take 3-5 working days for it to go back into your account. That's the same with any online transaction.

Waiting on the refund from my 3rd try this time around.

Gonna try in-store and pay the extra for the top-up.

    Even at €69.99 + €10 Eir SIM + €20 top-up it's probably worth it if I can get it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I ordered, got email straight away and an hour later, my VF account says order submitted. How long til it would be cancelled?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭SteelyDanJalapeno

You can at least use the 20e credit elsewhere, or give it to charity.

So it's really only 10 euro extra with eir

So tried 2 times on a lyca sim, 2 cancelled. Went and bought a 3 sim yesterday, went to Vodafone store, none of the phone I want in stock. Tried yesterday with new 3 sim, cancelled. Called Vodafone sales line this morning can't place order on the phone but told I should use safari or Firefox as Google chrome creating technical glichs. Put my 4th and final order through this morning at 10am on sarafri. Cancelled just now. I've given up. Only had one refund issued so far lol.

Literally have no idea how I missed that!! 🤦‍♂️ Thank you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Mine got cancelled, only seen on my dashboard. You'd think they'd at least email.

Anyways, placed the order again using same 48 mobile sim and new email address.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Yes I'm wondering why they don't email at least

Do they see themselves as above all that such as emailing the plebs ?

Have to ask them nicely for a refund too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

My money is pending, assumed that just elapses

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

My second one got cancelled. Oh well.

Do I really have to contact them to release money? Or just wait the 3-5 days for the "hold" to expire?

I'm waiting since about the 8th for refund after contacting them

I can see 2 completed debit transactions for 70 and 1 debit pending, got 1 phone

Not sure what that all means or have I been overcharged

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,380 ✭✭✭.red.

They can't give you the money back any faster. Their website and sales approach is a joke but the slow refunds are out of their hands. They cancel the transaction the same time as they cancel the order. It literally takes the 3-5 working days to come back to you, every online shop who issues a refund is the same.

I am with Vodafone. I guess the deal won't work for me

When moving from 48, should i put Prepay or Billpay as the option?

They keep cancelling all orders now for me at this stage so presume I'm blacklisted :D

So I am . Well , was until Monday.

Got my shiny new card from AnPost. Free plus one month for free all data call, txt, because i switched my voda number to anpost mobile.

And then I learned that anpost is run on voda network 😁. Will see, I will try to switch back to voda in next few days , and I will report it here.

By the way, that number has already been switched to voda years ago to avail of similiar offer 😀 So will see how it goes this time.

If anyone knows how often you can switch between providers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I assume as often as you like. But I'm on PM too and I wouldn't be changing to VF for good, far better value on PM

I've just had my third order (in 24 hours) cancelled trying to port a 48 number. First two times I used a BoI credit card and didn't see any money taken off so I assumed that they got an error trying to get payment. I tried chat support and first time they said there was a 'rare technical glitch' and that it would definitely work second time. Second time they said that it was an issue with payment so I used N26 the third time and the money was taken instantly. Now going to try a fourth time...

This all worked perfectly for me over a month ago when I ported a Lyca number.

Call and collect in your local store by calling (01) 539 3078 from 09:00 to 18:00 Monday to Saturday (12:00 to 18:00 on Sundays)

That's the message I received from the online chat, for the call and collect.

My daughter has this phone well over a year and I have tried numerous ways to add Google, but I was never successful, some would work but very glitchy, and others just didn't, there is an app locker apk thing that can be got but I would be very reluctant to input her Google account details to a third party app, so I just gave up, Huawei are slowly adding more and more apps to their app store. But none of the major ones like banking apps etc

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: it seems to be impossible. I read a bunch of forums and a lot of people tried and they concluded with after a certain EMUI version level it was impossible to do anything. I tried sideloading a bunch of APKs and tried microG and just about everything and I would get errors after successfully entering my Google password. The only Google app that would run, without needing to log in to Google, was Maps. Nobody on any forum had cracked this, as of October.

Since the phone was for my Dad all he needed was a way to sync contacts so the easy workaround was to add a Microsoft account and use Outlook for mail. I used APKpure and App Gallery for installing apps and that was more than enough for this use case. I knew this in advance and I specifically wanted a phone free of distractions with the simplest setup possible. I put on the Microsoft Launcher too and got rid of as much Huawei stuff as possible. The end result is good and with very good battery life because there's so little syncing going on.

Sucks, you cannot port from AnPost mobile 😬

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I wonder would comreg have an issue here, they're discriminating against users based on network choice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭carbsy

Welcome to the rodeo! Would it not just be easier for everyone to hop in a car / bus to the nearest VF store? I've had no issues buying these offers instore for the last 4 years....

And if they say you can't port for Tesco for instance. Push them. Make them try. There is no fictional block. The staff are trained to tell you bollocks, basically. I've moved 48, Tesco, Three & Eir instore.

And YEAH... I had numerous failed online orders too with the same SIMs.....

I had an order cancelled a couple of weeks ago. Do you reckon I should get a new sim to try again, or try the one I already used (an Eir one)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭cavan4sam

Just ordered there using a lyca sim..fingers crossed but not holding out any hope really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

I was successful with my Eir SIM order. Decent enough phone for 70 euro. (Note 10 5g)

Had four attempts cancelled, using three 48, one Lyca.

    Peed off
