There are a couple of sites very close to Royan that maybe worth looking at in Vaux sur Mer and St. Palais sur Mer…..

Sitting here poolside in Yelloh Les Tournels near St Tropez. Weather has been sunny with temps in low 20s. First time down this end of France and it's a real pleasant surprise. Site is great with everything still open, season ends sunday. Picked a mid range 3bed and got free Wi-Fi for 4 devices & done a speed check on my tablet ,getting 40mbps. Streamed Netflix, Rte player without any buffering, probably the best Wi-Fi we've ever used in 14 yrs travelling to France. Yes the bar prices are spicy 7€ a pint but since we haven't had a holiday since 2019 it's well worth it.

Has anyone booked Domaine des Ormes directly instead of going through Eurocamps? They've got several apartments and cottages which are coming in cheaper than a mobile home with Eurocamp

I'm wondering if there's much difference in the experience. Obviously campsite amenities should be the same but I'm wondering if things like the kids clubs will be as good?

We have booked a pitch for August nxt yr, and a mobile for our friends, saving about 30% on all other providers (2A 3K each grp). I found them great to deal with as we wanted to be as close as possible (no extra charge) so we know exactly where we will be staying nxt yr as they have allocated our spots already. It's our 1st time so can't comment on the amenities but they have there own kids group and English is spoken.

Looking at staying near Frejus with 2 kids, 6 and 4. Anyone stayed in La Baume, Esterel, Holiday Green or Club Colombiers?

Also a lot of reviews of eurocamp accommodation tend to be bad, old and dirty etc, what are people's experiences? I stayed in a yelloh campsite a couple of years ago and it was decent so was thinking about going with them again.

Considered La Baume once, but the motorway beside it put us off. Couldn't recommend where we went instead.

got back from France Monday - 2 of the roughest crossings we've ever had over and back. Monday's arrival was 3 hours late into Dublin (though we departed late as usual with the WBY - at the time the ship was supposed to sail there were still at least 100 cars waiting to check in).

Ferry wasn't too busy, nearly everyone was wearing masks moving around the boat.

Just back from yelloh les tournels near St Tropez & not far from Fréjus. Absolutely loved the site & excellent mobile home accommodation.

Are there any promo codes for Irish Ferries? Or does anything think there may be some in the run-up to black friday? thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 589 ✭✭✭MorganIRL

Don't think there has been a promo for IF for a few years. Plus with the demand for travel next year it will be doubtful there will be discounts. Hard enough get cabins at the moment..

Don't think we'll see too many discount offers on the "Holiday" routes.

IF are getting hammered with almost empty sailings on the Dublin to Holyhead route so will want to mitigate those losses by maximising revenue on the less price sensitive holiday routes where pent up demand seems to enabling them to sell out (more or less) at full fares with no need to discount in order to attract bookings.

Anyone else waiting on a refund from a 2020 booking? Booked direct with La Sirene who cancelled the 2020 booking and issued a voucher (valid for 18 months). We didn't travel this year and have other plans for next year so hope to get my deposit back. 18 months is up at the end of Nov. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and likelihood of getting my money back.

Hi all, booked ferry to France for June next year. Bringing a camper and it's our first time back in over 20 years. Spending the month there and would like to take in the Normandy landing sites followed by touring down the West coast. Would like to hear recommendations for campsites and any tips etc. Thanks in advance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,920 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

if you're interested in the landings, the Memorial museum in Caën is excellent. Also in the area the Bayeux Tapestry is worth a look.

We had a credit note from chateau de fonrives, which they had agreed to push out another year (for 2022) - they contacted us a few weeks back to refund. We were happy to use it (although we've ended up going back to the Vendee instead).

We have stayed a few times at Le Cormoran, right on Utah beach.

Lots of gun batteries, landing sites, US Military commerative site, US Airbourn D Day museum at St. Mere Aiglise, more at Arromanches, Dead Man's Corner museum and, of course, grave yards.

    All within 45 minutes drive.

Stayed ourselves in Camping Omaha Beach for a couple of nights, a few years ago - https://www.camping-omaha-beach.fr/en/

It's basic enough, but perfectly fine for a camper van/motorhome type of trip, if you expect to be out and about for most of the day anyway. Fairly reasonable rates too, IIRC.

Booked for 22nd June for 10 days (8 nights in les grand pins). We booked flights to bordeaux for 4 a while back as only 530 euro for 4 including baggage! Had hearts set on a les grand pins in lacanau (an hour from bordeaux airport). Very expensive campsite but had lots of yelloh points so got two nights free. We've done le pin parasol three times now- hopefully it lives up to our experiences there but looking forward to trying somewhere new. Could only get the campsite for 8 nights so have a lovely airbnb in bordeaux booked for the last two nights. We stayed in hotel in la rochelle for a night after pin parasol in August and it was a lovely change of scenery

@MizMix le pin parasol is where we've booked with 2 teens - take it's a decent spot? We've outgrown Le Littoral...

We love it there! Our kids are only 9 and 7 though but there's always a decent amount of teens around. Especially in the evenings in the older sensations area. Car needed but lots around like grand delphi. We usually stay in the newer area and love that pool area- it's like a 5 star resort. Really relaxing (you can only use it in the am if you are staying in that area- otherwise after 1pm or around then). Then the older section has all the water slides etc- it can be busy so it's lovely to mix up between the two areas.

Also see there is a new cycle path around the lake- the lake is gorgeous. If you're into walking/hiking - def go the whole way round. You can access it direct from the campsite. There's a lovely creperie right on the lake too

Can anyone recommend a good campsite around La Rochelle or Bordeaux next summer ? Travelling with two young kids.

  • Registered Users Posts: 313 ✭✭MizMix

@Goose_Hyypia we have just booked les grand pins in bordeaux, on the coast.

We were supposed to stay in le grainitiere in June - it's a small campsite in ile de re (approx 20 mins from La Rochelle). It's a more basic campsite but it gets great reviews esp for younger families. Ile de re is supposed to be stunning. We had to push our trip out to August due to covid and ended up in a different campsite but hope to go back. We did stay a night in a hotel in La Rochelle after the campsite- it's a fab city. My two kids loved it- there's an amazing park full of animals and the aquarium is really good.

we went with Domaine de la Rive for a week.

still figuring out the other week

  • Registered Users Posts: 61 ✭✭Goose_Hyypia

Thanks @MizMix this is an ideal location for us.

The island looks really nice. Did you book that campsite through a broker or the website?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

Nice hefty toll on that bridge out to Ile de Re, so plan your trips well.

Ile de Re is probably the priciest of the three islands off west coast.

We're breaking our run of 6 years in a row of France holidays. Had been considering something different for 2022, but ferry prices pushed us over the edge. Almost €2000 return on the ferry for 5 of us in July. €1100 for return flights to Portugal for the same dates!

Will be swapping the croissants for pastel de nata next year!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭SusanC10

Tbh, if we didn't have enough Tesco tokens to cover us, we would be doing something similar!

Same, ferry prices were actually ok for us but was being quoted €5,000 for 3 weeks in late July / early August bringing the total trip cost to over €6,000.

Heading to a beach front apartment on a nice resort in Spain instead.
