Never heard of it either. Saw it on its dedicated thread, and thought I'd give it a look, even though I don't like anime nor fantasy steam-punk. Watched the first three 45 min episodes. It really is very good. The animation for one thing is probably about the most realistic I've seen in terms of bodily movenents. But the story unfolds really nicely, and in unexpected ways. Well worth a look.

I was self-isolating there last week so I got through KIN, Tiger King 2, and Squid game.

I thought Squid game wasn't good as people claimed it to be.. But still enjoyable..

Kin was brilliant I thought. Better than love/hate was!

Tiger King 2 was great also I felt..

I have nearly finished season 3 of YOU. It was grand, season 1/2 was very good and I kinda had my expectations set quite high for this 3rd season.. Still have an episode or two left though..

This could be a big hit for Netflix and Spotify

Spotify Launches Hub For Netflix Soundtracks, Playlists And Podcasts

Spotify has launched a Netflix hub with soundtracks, playlists, podcasts and exclusive content related to programming on the streaming video service.

The hub is accessible to both free and premium Spotify subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and India.

Spotify has 381 million monthly active users and 172 million subscribers in 184 global markets. Netflix, the leader in streaming video, has about 214 million subscribers.

The hub is seen as a joint promotional initiative and did not involve any money changing hands between the companies, which have collaborated in the past.

“It’s clear that after the credits roll, viewers are left wanting even more—and they come to Spotify to hear it,” the audio streamer said in announcing the hub. Within two weeks of the premiere of Squid Game on Netflix earlier this fall, Spotify said, listeners to its service had made more than 22,500 unique, themed playlists dedicated to the show......

    A thousand times this!!

Been looking forward to it for a while. As a massive RENT fan (been to see it 19 times 😂) it really tells the man's story beautifully. It has loads of little nods and winks to musical theatre fans but also just a great story for anyone to enjoy.

Sunday was brilliant wasn’t it!! Andrew Garfield is so so good in this

It's perfect casting. Hope it gets the attention it deserves.

Can't wait to watch Robin Robin, it looks delightful. Kind of feels like I should put the Chrisrmas tree up first though.

In case some of you missed it way back the first time I posted... here's the trailer for Robin Robin; I think we could all do with something this sweet in our day.

i am definitely in the ' ITS STILL F***ING NOVEMVER' camp :)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,308 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Normally I'd be 100% in agreement, but after this year I'm totally open to letting some semblance of jolly festivity creep ina little earlier than usual 😀 There's F all else to be cheery about ATM.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I think the last week in November is fine for watching Christmas stuff. I'm not sold on decorations being up just yet though.

I've been wanting to rewatch Last Christmas since it popped up on Netflix a few weeks ago, but it too feels like one that needs a Christmas tree present to enjoy fully

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,041 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Robin Robin looks like a nice festive distraction, and reminds me that I really liked Klaus, so will likely rewatch that as well. Closer to the time, although I daren't trigger the Festive Holy Wars as to what is an acceptable starting date 😉

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,931 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Always worth restating how great Klaus is, in case anyone missed it before. Brilliant film 🙂

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,823 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I agree I went and checked if klaus was still on Netflix as I plan to watch this Christmas. It’s hard to put a new twist of the Classic story of Santa Claus, but Klaus did it.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Klaus is a Netflix film so it should always be there.

Klaus was definitely a surprise for me; if only for that absolutely gorgeous animation style alone. Every now and again you get a movie like that and it reminds you that; yeah. You can make good Christmas movies with a little effort - it's a shame mainstream US studios shovel out such rubbish each year.

F is for Family Season 5 - Follow the Murphy family back to the 1970s, when kids roamed wild, beer flowed freely and nothing came between a man and his TV..

Tel Aviv on Fire (Arabic) - A hapless Palestinian production assistant suddenly becomes the writer of a popular soap after finding unlikely inspiration at an Israeli checkpoint..

When Missing Turns to Murder Season 1 - Using testimony from family and friends, this docuseries looks at cases in the UK where missing persons investigations took a turn for the worse.

Super Crooks Season 1 (Japanese) - Johnny Bolt recruits a group of ragtag supervillains for one last heist. Their target: A ruthless super-powered crime boss. What can go wrong?

No Paramount Plus and no Pluto TV available here.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,931 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

I re-watched The Edge of Seventeen tonight. I forgot how great it is. I think it maybe got forgotten with Lady Bird and Booksmart coming out in the years after but personally I think it's the best of those films. Hailee Steinfeld is a really wonderful lead and Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick are great in supporting roles.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,041 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Just had a look as I've never heard of Pluto TV, looks like it's basically freeview but delivered online rather than via a set top box. Worth having a look at least, I'm in the UK and can stream stuff from it - I'd be a bit surprised if they bothered with strict enough geo IP restriction that users in Ireland wouldn't be able to use it.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,308 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Yeah, Paramount may have screwed up here; there has been much pushback about the change in arrangements. certainly moving from the biggest global streamer to a doubtlessly advert filled free service feels like a big downgrade. Mind you, the show has always been pretty poor so overall it's no great loss.

A Castle for Christmas – Netflix’s logically titled festive film follows Sophie (Brooke Shields), a famous American author who travels to Scotland and finds herself wanting to buy a castle, as you do. But the prickly owner, Myles (Cary Elwes), who just happens to be a Scottish duke, is reluctant to sell to a foreigner. Working to find a compromise, the pair constantly butt heads, but along the way they just may find more than they bargained for (which may or may not involve a castle).

Little Women (2019) – Greta Gerwig’s funny, moving and beautifully modern take on Louisa May Alcott’s novel will be carried forward for generations to come.

School of Chocolate (2021) Season 1- Eight pros study the art of chocolate under the tutelage of a famed chocolatier. But only one will be best in class and win the chance of a lifetime

Spoiled Brats (French) - Three spoiled siblings are forced to earn their livings after their wealthy and well-meaning father pretends he's lost everything to teach them a lesson.

Dig Deeper: The Disappearance of Birgit Meier (2021) (German) - After Birgit Meier vanishes in 1989, police missteps plague the case for years. But her brother never wavers in his tireless quest to find the truth.

Lost In Vagueness (2017) - This documentary follows Roy Gurvitz and his brainchild Lost Vagueness, a bacchanalian party behemoth that reinvigorated the Glastonbury Festival

The Penalty (2018) - This documentary follows three individuals affected by the death penalty in America as they seek justice and embark on an emotional journey.

Magic Medicine (2018) - Can magic mushrooms cure depression? This documentary follows the first medical trial to explore the use of psilocybin as a treatment for clinical depression

H Is For Harry (2018) - This documentary follows 11-year-old Harry, a student who can't read or write, as he struggles to overcome illiteracy in suburban London.

Gerwig’s Little Women is an improbably delightful watch for anyone who hasn’t seen it. Gerwig may not be a particularly flashy director, but this and Lady Bird are incredibly accomplished and lively films.

I really didn't like Lady Bird, I pretty much hated it, so I was really surprised by how much I loved Little Women. It really is a wonderful piece of film making.
