    Morning all

I thought I'd once again brave the shambles this site has become to see what's happening here but I see it's the same old thing with hysteria and hyperbole from the same old faces.

I think this latest notion from Tony H and his overpaid band of ass-coverers around restrictions for 9 year olds shows just how desperate they are - effectively grounding them for a fortnight (but it won't be just a fortnight of course) and wanting them to wear masks is a new low for even them.

The real issue continues to be the lack of capacity in the health service as it has been for decades now. Despite the almost unlimited resources thrown at it in the past 18 months, it's the same old story as it is every winter but they have a convenient scapegoat to pin it on as they also control the narrative. Using kids to cover their own incompetence is a new level though.

But of course, plan B is already underway as well with a new scary variant from Africa being ramped up in the media this morning so it won't be long before the dial gets turned up on that when the first case is reported here.

When does this nonsense actually end? Of course given we have a nation of compliant virtue-signallers hiding under their bed, and a political class unaccountable to anyone (unless you believe that elections make any difference in this era of coalitions and confidence deals to keep the Big 2 in power), it could go on for another 2/3 years yet I fear.

It's even more galling when you see our nearest neighbours living normally again, but yet no mass media coverage of people dying in the streets or hospitals like something out of a disaster movie - funny that!

    Don't go if you're afraid.

I can't wait for the final. Might be the last normal-ish thing I'm allowed to do until May at this rate.

    BIG mistake

And this is exactly the point.

If you're afraid or immunocompromised or just uncomfortable, then don't go to these places or engage in these things.

Simple.. As I've said before, the problem is that such people expect everyone else to feel the same level of concern or risk as they do which just isn't possible as most people aren't affected significantly by it even if they do catch it.

I won't be going. I've gone to a few LOI games in the past but the standard is pretty poor to be honest.

That's not the point he, or you for that matter, were making though, is it?

Over 20months in and we still have the NPHET 'recommendations' plastered all over the media before the Government meekly accept, I mean robustly debate them.

Why the fcuk is this still being allowed to happen? Why are NPHET all over the media instead of making recommendations direct to Government?

Boris Johnson is a buffoon but he has put our cowardly politicians to shame with his handling of Covid. He wasn't afraid to actually take responsibility and make decisions and it has really paid off for the UK. We have the most cowardly generation of ass-covering spin-merchants in charge and the opposition benches are even worse.

And now we are going to play some more makey-upey Covid-theatre games with 9 year-olds - what a sick fcuking joke of a country we have become and the arseholes who have cheered this shite on should be fcuking ashamed of themselves!

I thought we'd stop naming and shaming the countries producing new variants.. ah but it's just a small african country who cares. Quickly close the border and remove anybody with a different skin color: it's not discrimination, it's for our own safety

Heading back to the US in just over a week. Place I'm going has been fully open for almost a year, case numbers not bad. Different world. It's going to be weird, like emerging pasty faced and Vit D deficient after a long stint in an hibernation pod.

Its friyay, so for those of us who are being sensible and staying home and limiting the spread by spewing our thoughts and deep concerns all over the pages of boards.ie - may i present the boards.ie friday covid restrictions drinking game

    Seriously ?

I like your optimism but the "experts" are saying this new variant is the worst yet and can evade immunity.

If this is true then we are back to square 1, we are essentially dealing with a new virus.

Question is will people accept hard lockdowns and travel curbs for the guts of a year till we get a new vaccine - and then guess what ?

A new variant emerges, rinse and repeat.

    Hope I'm wrong

I hope this is a power play by Leo (and FG) cos MM (and FF) dont have the where-with-all for any such strategy . Where they allow the utter insanity of NPHET to leak in the media , rile the population and then come in and reject it and we all say "Isn't Leo wonderful" .

Because if that isn't what happens then the country is fcuked more than any time it has been.

The current proposals at the latest step in a long line of measures showing a complete disregard for any civil liberties that you may expect . The idea of children wearing masks all day in school . The notion that you would lock-out a group of people who made a choice for their own health from society at large is authoritarian - not only from hospitality but now other aspects like hairdressers or gyms.

It's plain coercion and mandatory vaccination by proxy. Anybody who disagrees that this is the case is a fool and anybody who supports it can never bleat about equality and a fair society ever again.

one of the really weird things of this whole thing , is that NPHET have a public platform at all. They aren't public representatives but sadly appear to weld unholy amounts of power .

You’d end up in ICU on a drip if you played that game.

Now isn't the time for political correctness or virtue signaling. Action was and is needed. We can worry about peoples feeling after, once we ascertain some more information about this new variant

Whats the story with 9 year old kids wearing masks ? in school ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 207 ✭✭BuildTheWall

People weren’t afraid enough of the Rona anymore so the media are trotting out the latest ‘Scariant’ in an attempt to frighten people out of their wits. Within 5 minutes of this discovery, Sky News was calling it “the most dangerous, transmissible variant yet” even though there was absolutely no evidence to suggest this was the case. Why isn’t media ever taken to the task anymore? That’s the very definition of fake news!

Wow, didn't think i'd see the race card being used for this. South Africa isn't a small country and it has lots of white people in case you didn't notice but don't let that stop you 🙄

Vegas. I've never been to a club here tbh but I hear they're pretty good. Superstar djs and all that stuff.

Apparently not just in schools, Public Transport and shops, It's a recommendation only, Government to discuss ( Dither, Mix message, Deflect etc etc etc)

Not disputing their expertise but they'd be well advised to keep schtum until it is investigated a whole lot more.

South Africa hardly a small country, its not about naming and shaming countries, the WHO are expected to put a Greek name on this variant shortly, to South Africa's credit, they released their findings extremely quickly, this is literally breaking news.

Whenever the general election comes around and one of SF or PBP frauds come near me I fear I’ll do something I’ll regret.

  • Registered Users Posts: 933 ✭✭✭darconio

No race card played, but I thought we were supposed to name the variant with a letter from the greek alphabet to avoid discriminations: but again I have seen the majority need a new boogeyman every now and then to avoid focusing their narrow mind into the real issue. And the same political class will justify a new wave of restrictions hiding behind the usual "it's for your safety" and deflecting from the real problems caused by their inefficiency and mismanagement of the "crisis". Of course also the new scary variant is from Botswana: a southern african country.

That's not true. People are definitely still afraid of catching the virus. Not necessarily afraid for their lives but Christmas is coming up and people want to spend time with their loved ones who may be vulnerable. Another point is they will need to isolate for 10 days so most of the people I know are going for tests from the 15th of December and doing piss all outside of that.

After Christmas socialising looks like it will be f##king bananas though

Pascal the Rascal on Claire Byrne talking Shyte as per usual, Seems Leo typically spoke too soon yesterday, oddly and strangely every time Leo opens his mouth, claims were seeing positive signs, the following day he's proven not only to have spoke too soon but look even more foolish, if that's even possible 🙄
