    Hi there

What are the implications of an Irish person person living in Ireland but being paid from an Isle of Man company through Isle of Man payroll?

How would this work, would a shadow payroll be needed in Ireland?

    Regards

    Dave

Presuming that you are resident, ordinarily resident and domiciled in Ireland, AFAIK you are taxed here on your worldwide income. You may get a deduction for any taxes paid in Isle of Man.

That's true, but it doesn't really answer the question posed by the OP.

    Revenue say this https://www.revenue.ie/en/tax-professionals/tdm/income-tax-capital-gains-tax-corporation-tax/part-42/42-04-35a.pdf

"Chapter 5 - Treatment of foreign sourced employment income

    5.1 PAYE and foreign employments

As regards the income of a foreign employment, it is necessary to distinguish:

    1. that part of the income attributable to the performance in the State of duties of such employment, and

    2. that part of the income attributable to the performance outside the State of duties of such employment.

As regards the income at (1), irrespective of the residence or domicile position of the employee, such income is chargeable to Irish tax and within the scope of the PAYE system of deductions at source.

As regards the income at (2), whilst such income may be chargeable to Irish tax in the hands of the employee, it is not within the scope of the PAYE system of deductions at source.

    5.2 Further Information

More detailed information on the tax treatment of foreign sourced employment income is contained in TDM Part 42-04-65"

Unfortunately TDM Part 42-04-65 is being re-written and isn't available on the Revenue website. The critical part is bolded above, and generally requires foreign employers to register in Ireland for PAYE purposes.
