I'd say most people in Ireland turned off the TV when Martin and his variants came on.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I didn't even realise he was addressing the nation 😀

They spent all week blaming kids and then introduce restrictions on hospitality and events. Useless planks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,014 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

    Why is RTÉ the virus?

What does that even mean? What TF do people think is actually going on here?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,962 ✭✭✭✭JRant

Well that was the final doubt removed for me. The government and nphet have zero faith in the vaccines. I can't believe we are back to this level of restrictions. He talked about following the science, well the science is saying the vaccines have reduced hospitalisation and serious outcomes. Yet we are back to no vaccine levels of restrictions.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

NPHET finally got the Covid cert in for gyms that they've been gagging for. They've been trying it for a while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,636 ✭✭✭Doctor Jimbob

Snake oil Phil couldn’t update his models to account for increased booster rollout or the impact of new restrictions but he’s well able to update it for the new variant despite there being no concrete evidence of what it’s impact will be.

Cases are steady since the last restrictions, hospitalisations and ICU improving. What’s the response? More restrictions. Most of our cases in schoolkids and their parents. What’s the response? Target hospitality and gyms again. I’d genuinely wonder at the intelligence of anyone still thinks these dopes have any shred of credibility at this stage. I wonder if we’ll see Saint Tony do another round of the tv studios while telling the rest of us to avoid unnecessary social contacts.

Fúck NPHET, and fúck our spineless government.

Nothing wrong with a general message like "we advise you to reduce social contacts", but rules like "maximum of 3 other households" seem completely pointless. Say you had invited 4 different families over for Christmas, who's going to call one of them and say "sorry, we have decided you are household #4, you are no longer welcome"? Why do they bother with stuff like that?

Do they not do leaders questions anymore after an announcement were the “press” can ask questions?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,150 ✭✭✭opinionated3

Because they've basically been cheerleaders for nphet and haven't seriously questioned any of their proclamations.....

The Taoiseach came across very well i thought. Made his points clear and precise about the gravity of the situation and didn't go too far with restrictions. Got the balance just about right imo.

The reaction on my twitter is almost universally negative. Normally there's a bit of balance

This seems to be the final straw for a lot of people

He has claimed outbreaks in hospital instead of illness and in that he has been wrong.

So yes don't rate him because of that.

But maybe he is not wrong in this...I don't know apart from taking your word or ACE's , as it is not presented in fairness , only the worst case which we all thought was rubbish as it didn't take boosters into account .

But will take ACEs view on this .

I would imagine the negative spin they put on everything covid related and constantly asking for the country to go into lockdown, it sells for them making and is them massive profits from it but not exactly neutral reporting, just like cancel culture if the media get enough force behind it, it puts pressure on for it to happen.

Give a rest ffs. You've had your laugh for the last day or so but don't think anybody is in the form for it tonight.

It's an anti vaxer mantra being slung about by adolescents with the IQ of a squirrel. I've seen a load of it graffitied on walls around D14 recently by some loon bag.

Apparently there's "flexibility" built into that message!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,278 ✭✭✭Cork2021

Hard not to agree with you. With Christmas comes increased socialising and case numbers will increase but by fûck will they reach 15,000 that’s just plan fearmongering by NPHET.how they let snake oil Nolan stick at his job is beyond me

What you get when you have such cautious lads in charge. These latest restrictions based of a load of ifs or what might happen while thanking people for their efforts hmm.

I'm wondering will there be a swell of vaccinated people now not bothering to take the booster?? Out of sheer frustration that their efforts so far have still resulted in restrictions?

Feck that sh1te and feck the booster!

And STFU, Mary Lou. You’d be as sh1te if you were in government too. They’re all the same. Sh1te!

I think tonight is the night we have accepted that permanent restrictions are now the norm. Can anyone see nightclubs ever being allowed to reopen under Tony (& his lackey Micheál)? I don’t tbh. It’s very hard to take, tonight is probably the night I’ve accepted this is life and probably as good as it’s going to get for a long time.

Sobering. 93% vax rate and we’re as good as back to pre vaccine style restrictions. Why any young person would even want to take a booster is a question I’m now asking myself, and I was as pro-vax as anyone could be. I fail to see a way out anymore.

Im sure we all know FF hardcore supporters. People who still supported the party even after 2008,

Surely these people can't even back Michael Martin at this stage?

Is there really anything new in this?

    Nightclubs were already effectively closed.

    Pubs already closed at 12pm.

Indoor venues I believe already had reduced capacity.

In my opinion, we are still heading towards a lockdown around the 17th, once the schools and colleges close. The pubs will be packed all Christmas week allowing spread, can you imagine New Year's Eve telling people to sod of home at 12am? Not going to happen, thus I think they are already planning to lockdown the pubs around that time.

Have you seen the roasting people like Stephen Donnelly and Norma Foley have got all the way along from people like Sarah McInerney and Bryan Dobson and as recently as last Tuesday?

Just because RTÉ people don't grandstand like some of the eejits on commercial stations doesn't mean hard questions are not being asked, or members of Government being pinned to the wall.

Some people don't even watch or listen to these things and are happy to join the chorus of morons like those two flutes on the News.

"RTÉ is the bleedin virus Joe!"

    Gobshites.

Without any conspiracy hat on. You were told that in March 2020. When the term "new normal" was banded about in the media. You've been conditioned for 18 months.

Its about time we stood up for ourselves.
