Bathroom Extractor Fan.

I want to replace the electric extractor fan in my bathroom which is located overhead the shower unit. It is old - about twenty years - has become noisy and no longer extracts steam and vapour efficiently. Would I require an electrician to wire up a new one or can this be DIY safely?

Only a rec is permitted to do electrical work in bathrooms. Also it shouldn’t be in the shower enclosure.

Switching out fans is hardly 'electrical work'. Within the shower enclosure though it should be 12v dc - just check before you buy a replacement.

What is the installation process for one of those? Does it involve disconnecting the existing wiring and then connecting it to the new unit and should only an electrician do this?

It's an apartment bathroom. There is no window so when you turn on the light the fan comes on automatically. The bath doubles as the shower stall. The fan is positioned on the wall about 12 inches above the shower head.
