Vintage Messi goal after nice work from Mbappe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

    That third goal was excellent.

Waiting for Verratti to cut somebody in two before the referee acts. Its boys against men stuff but he has slid in three times already and got away with each one.

PSG have a lot of the ingredients needed but I can still see them coming up short against the likes of Bayern.

They looked awful against City, the front 3 just walking around the pitch out of possession, City Could have hammered them.

Even in possession they look Poor as Messi and Neymar play wherever they want dropping deep to get on the ball but then have no one to pass to as they are deep.

I'd be surprised if they get past the next round and shocked if they win it without huge improvements

Club Brugge coming out the second half with a bit of fight. It must be tough that they are good enough to win the domestic league but nowhere near the quality to compete in the champions league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Is there any reason why Pep brought on Sterling and started the likes of De Bruyne. Surely today is a day for the league cup team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,324 ✭✭✭Tilikum17

Or why was foden taken off at half time? Was he very poor?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

It should be said Verratti didn't play in the defeat to City at the Etihad, and he was the best player in the win over them in Paris. Guardiola and Gundogan were singing his praises for that game. I think if PSG are to go far in the competition they need him fit as he's their best midfielder. Pochettino also probably has to make a ballsy call to start Messi or Neymar on the bench to give a better balance to the team. As it stands I wouldn't rate them as one of the favourites as there are still a lot of question marks surrounding them.

    Red for Walker

Group B looks the one to watch for the evening games. UEFA have a handy guide on who needs what:

    • Liverpool are through to the round of 16 as group winners.

    • Porto will go through if they win, or if they draw and Milan do not win.

    • Atlético will go through if they win and Milan do not.

    • Milan will go through if they win and the other game is drawn.

Pretty sure all 3 teams can go through, go to Europa or go out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭The Golden Miller

Went to back Milan but are down to 5/4 from 9/4 after those line ups were announced. Great chance of qualifying now. Free hit for them really. Never took the competition serious this year, yet tripped into a position where they might qualify. Have to go for it now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Do you actually watch football ?

They gave everything against Liverpool but just were not good enough. They were all over AM until a real dodgy red card. Don't know where you are getting this never took it seriously stuff

Blow for Atletico with Suarez off injured.

Inter the much better side in the game against madrid, could be a goal up by now

    Madrid take the lead

Tomori gives Milan the lead. How did Minamino not clear that? Milan going through as it stands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Milan 1 up. Tomori taps in a rebound from a save during a corner kick

All level in the San Siro. Fine finish from Salah off another rebounded save

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Think Maignan should have done better with the initial shot.

Ye watch alot of Milan games as it happens. Gave everything against Liverpool, what game were you watching? Even after they went ahead, their attitude was "meh", if we get something great, if we don't we don't. Heart definitely wasn't in it. Gave it a rattle against Atleti, definitely threw in the towel after that. Somehow found themselves in a position to still go through, a bonus, so will have a proper go and should win tonight.

It's been all about the league for Milan this year, the intensity and direction. No point doing well in Europe and finishing 7th in the league. Need top 4 every year minimum to keep the money coming in, and rebuild. A serious go at Europe would then follow. Certainly the consensus of Milan fans that Ive seen anyway. Nice to be back in Europe, but to be competitive long term the focus is domestically and to rebuild from there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

They were all over Atletico and we're absolutely run off there feet after an early red. They never ever gave up in that gave and we're throwing themselves at everything right up to the last.

I can't imagine any Milan fan saying they don't care about the CL. Being Italy's team in Europe is such a huge part of the clubs identity. I don't see much of what you are saying over on the Milan forums

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Griezmann gives Atletico the lead.

Origi scores for Liverpool as well. Atletico in the driving seat now. Porto goal would change it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Goal for Liverpool. Another rebound from a save but it was a shocking loss of possession from Tomori that caused it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Atletico goal too so everything just shuffled round now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

How did Atleti not score that. Great run from Cunha.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

All kicking off in Portugal. Carrasco sent off and there might be more cards dished out.

    Otavio and Pepe booked.

    Kicking off AGAIN now.

Porto's Wendell sent off now it seems. That is just ridiculous. Cunha throws himself down in embarrassing fashion. VAR should have stepped in for Wendell there.

The last few minutes of the Atletico and Porto match have been an absolute mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭tanko

Hadn’t heard Kenny Cunningham for a while , forgot what a sickening dose he is.

    Porto keeper gone now.

Edit: was it the sub keeper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Yeah the sub keeper got a red it seems. Still 10 vs 10 on the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Correa scores to seal it for Atletico.

De Paul makes it 3-0 after a defensive mistake. Mad second half.

Porto get a consolation from the spot.

Pretty easy for Liverpool. Very disappointed with Milan. That's the best Italy have to offer. Pathetic. They are deservably dumped out of Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

Does he understand football at all? Chamberlain did play decently tonight from what I seen but Cunningham was making a point that if he gets fully fit he makes it ahead of Thiago in that Liverpool's starting 11 every day. In what universe is Ox Chamberlain a better player than Thiago?

Inter were the better team tonight and had the better of madrid in the first game but lacked the cutting edge or luck maybe.

Hard to know what to make of it all, the Italian league hasn't done much in europe of late,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,123 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Milan were poor. Keisse and Tonali looked very nervous and forgot how to pass.

Missing starters in Calabria, Rebic, Leao, Kjaer and also Giroud which is a pity but even if they qualified they wouldn't go far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Watching the goals show recap and that Asensio strike was superb.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Liverpool dominated the midfield with Ox, Minamino and Morton.

Its not like Milan were playing against the main men tonight. Second choice back four (Phillips probably 5th choice CB), a very light midfield. Origi up top who's the 5th choice forward.

What was bothering Kyle Walker earlier, really dumb kick on the Leipzig player to get himself sent off. Pure stupid, will miss the next game obviously, will he possibly get more than one game. Ball nowhere where he was kicking, really petulant stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,289 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Atletico an absolute disgrace as usual. Was praying they wouldn't make it through.

Oh I'm not saying full team Milan could beat full team Liverpool but they could have beat this B side.

It's against Porto and AM that Milan should have done better so as to not find themselves here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,028 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

Ajax have been impressive throughout the group with 18 points, scoring 20 goals, conceding 5 and only Bayern have a better goal difference

Great to see Liverpool win all there games but it really means nothing ,it all about just getting into the next round however you do it,

I have a real hunch Liverpool will draw PSG next

  • Site Banned Posts: 20,685 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

At the moment they can be playing any of the other 7 teams. That'll change depending on juve/Chelsea group.

Couldn't believe how bad Milan were last night. Jez, Serie A must be muck this season if they are challenging for it.

In a must win game too. No passion about them at all.

Re: couple of their big names. First off, Kessia. Been seeing his name linked with a lot of big clubs and silly money being mentioned. He looked bang average last night.

And Zlatan. Definitely a legend of a footballer. Used to love watching him play. But someone needs to tell him he is done. The fact that coaches still pay him big money and pick him is not helping. I guess he is still playing simply to get to a world cup at such a great age, but my god he is well past his sell by. His gps tracker won't take much analysing today.
