    Delta or Omicron aren't locking us down...The government might due to their complete disapproval of attempting to live with Covid. Lockdowns had it's use last year and even at the start of this year but due to overuse it's a busted flush now

    Leo Varadkar - third dose of vaccines are being administered. This is clearly false. People agreed to two doses, the double blinded trials were on two doses, two doses were approved by the EMA. Many scientists and the EMA themselves call them boosters. Third doses are for immunocompromised. He’d also want to tell Moderna who’s booster dose is a half dose, which is currently being given in Ireland. It is NOT a third dose of the vaccine.

    Government & NPHET - concerned. What are they concerned about? Falling hospitalisations? One million booster doses administered? Why were Covid digital certs extended and why are they still part of society if this is about health. There are more than enough vaccines administered now to render them useless. They also don’t stop spread so they’re extra useless for Covid control. Very useful in the control & coercion of individuals while taking away their rights.

    Paul Reid…every day stating there are ‘too many people in hospital’ with Covid. What is too many? If we are to live with Covid, the current numbers are ok. As with other seasonal viruses, they’ll peak and drop. If the government cannot cope with only 481 people in hospital out of 5 million, there will be no end to this.

    He has done some fantastic modelling of the SA data, the best I've seen.

    He extrapolates out his work to cover the upcoming trend in the UK.

    My take away from all of this . . . The German Health minister was correct, before this is over you will have either had Covid & recovered or you will be dead.

    Looks as if there's no avoiding this wave, they have been using a metric of 3x more transmissible than Delta but now they believe that an underestimation.

    The UK are already expecting it, some mild restrictions reimposed but with the expected surge in cases around Christmas we know where this is ultimately heading.

    We will lag the UK in case numbers but our more conservative approach may accelerate restrictions. Our 3 layers of protection are the booster jab, the anti-virals & apparent lower mortality rate.

    Dr Shane Corr, a GP based in Carrickmacross, has said he cannot understand why the HSE is still persisting with age cohorts for booster vaccines.

    Speaking on RTÉ's Brendan O'Connor programme, Dr Corr said he thinks people should be able to receive a booster whenever they become eligible after having their original vaccine.

    He said it would be "far better" to allow people to make their own appointments.

    "People want to get vaccinated," Dr Corr said. "Pictures of people being turned away from the vaccination centre at UCD... I just thought was extraordinary.

    "And at the same time, the Taoiseach was telling the Dáil people weren't turning up for appointments. It's nonsensical."

    Not true. I had an operation last October appendix removal attended the emergency room at 7am and was sitting recovering in the ward after the operation at 8pm that night.

    Health service worked fine for me.

    I have to admit this Omicron is a real worry. It seems inevitable there are going to be huge case numbers coming in the near future. By sheer weight of numbers it will surely cause big problems even if it is a weaker strain ?

    The case numbers could be expected to hit 15k a day based on the 3x multiplier plus more socialisation in a system that has 30k testing capacity.

    The Helen Lovejoys on FB will guarantee schools will not open post Christmas.

    Contact tracing will have broken down, advice will be for the vulnerable to cocoon. This will rip through the whole population in no more than 6-8 weeks. 2 years to the day Leo put us into Lockdown it will be all over.

    Some people on this forum have said that some members of NPHET believe that coronavirus is spread only by droplets but that it's not airborne. But that idea makes no sense whatsoever - the droplets that come from people when they speak or cough or sneeze are microscopic and airborne. So where the hell did the idea of the virus not being airborne come from?!

    Same here. I got the Pfizer booster on Thursday morning. It floored me all day yesterday and today. I had nothing but a little tiredness from the first 2 jabs.

    Got the Pfizer Booster just over a week ago. Felt fine after bar a small pain in the shoulder from the needle.

    Don't hear of too many getting reactions and most in my work are getting it over the last 2 weeks.

    2019 has seen the highest number of patients on trolleys in any year since records began – despite it still being November.

    The union has invoked health and safety laws for staff, writing to the Health and Safety Authority and HIQA, seeking their intervention.

    “Winter has only just begun and the record is already broken. These statistics are the hallmark of a wildly bureaucratic health service, which is failing staff and patients alike.

    “We take no pleasure in having to record these figures for a decade and a half. We know the problem, but we also know the solutions: extra beds in hospitals, safe staffing levels, and more step-down and community care outside of the hospital.

    “Five years ago, hospitals like Beaumont consistently faced the most extreme overcrowding problems in the country. They reduced that problem by adding beds and growing community care. Other services can do the same and must be allowed to do so.

    “No other developed country faces anything close to this trolley problem. It can be solved, but a strong political agenda to drive change is needed.

    “The INMO has written to the health and safety authorities this week to try force a change from the employers. Hospitals should be a place of safety and care – not danger.”

    It was a nerdy technical definition more than anything. "True" airborne viruses don't need droplets to spread, they can flit through the air on their own, whereas non airborne viruses can't. Clearly this is a bit daft in real world terms, when coughing and sneezing, even talking can spread this Woo Flu. It was like our own professor Cormican was and still seems to be handwashing like he should be in an OCD ward stating that masks were of little value, just wash your hands *twitches* and you'll be grand. The clue is in the fúcking name; respiratory virus. You(in most cases) breathe it in from the "air" from the infected breathing it out. Oh sure, grabbing a door handle say, and then wiping your nose(fomite spread for those who get the horn for jargon) is certainly in play, but breathing in the droplets from the air appears to be much more in play.

    Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

    One reason only, management of numbers. The walk-in disasters of people just showing up to be turned away just can't cope. I still maintain they need to stop inviting yet another group to queue when they haven't sorted out those most at risk, the over 60s and vulnerable groups. Trying to please the crowd and annoying just about everyone is not a good look.
