    Sky's report on decision basically says that race director can decide on the safety car procedure, overruling other rules. If that's the rules, then sounds slam dunk, but whether it's the fairest rule for future is another question...

    Imaging if the didn't make the track changes to make it quicker. There would be no 3 extra laps added this year to the race distance. Incredible set of circumstances to finish of truly epic season.

    If that’s their decision so be it. I wanted to see Max win and I think he deserves it more than Hamilton, but I fundamentally disagree with the idea of one person being to toss the regulations of the sport aside on a whim, regardless of who that person is.

    Not a fan of the race director having the power to bend the rules mid race. Hopefully that gets sorted for next season. Can't see a repeat of this mess.

    But why couldn't he hold off max for one lap. Perez on old tyres held off Lewis on fresh tyres for a lap.

    I posted that one earlier, 15.3 gives the race director ultimate overriding authority on the use of the safety car notwithstanding other rules. Loose wording perhaps but that's what you get in these sorts of regulations as a get out of jail free card.

    Because he was on 30-odd lap old hards and Max was on brand spanking new softs.

    The move Max made on Hamilton was an excellent one that nobody saw coming. A move worthy of winning the World Championship.

    I find it baffling how everyone can just see everything in black and white.

    My reading of the stewards verdict is simply that race director call over use of the safety car supersedes all other rules. No way Mercedes will roll over on that but it would be a shock if CAS or any legal entity try to overturn it

    Thing is, if you have situation where someone tries to change a referees decision after the event, where does that end?

    Imagine in football, offside goal, wasn't disallowed in the match but we deduct a goal after the match.

    Cricket, someone was out, after the race seems he wasn't, reinstate the wicket.

    Rugby, video ref made a mistake and someone was awarded a try, deduct the points.

    Wad Max behind the backmarkers before his stop? I remember Lewis lost ground and was complaining on the radio but not sure if Max had passed them by the time the SC was out.

    So do I, but Mercedes should let it go now but it should start a very serious conversation about the powers of the Race Director and what rules he can and can't impose on a whim, for the simple reason that all it did was cause sh*tshow after sh*tshow this season.

    Wow, the RB defence is really weak. I argued earlier why ‘any’ very much does have the same meaning as all. The point about 48.13 overriding 48.12 is irrelevant because at issue is whether it was legitimate to ignore 48.12. The rules state that the race director has ‘overriding authority’ over the clerk of the course, not of the rules! And lastly, it is highly dubious that the outcome would have been the same with five lapped cars between Verstappen and Hamilton.

    There was no alternative to refusing the appeal, but RB had nothing up their sleeve.

    Good luck with that in Court - which is where this will end up. Millions of new viewers watched this race. They saw a driver 11 seconds ahead have his lead cut to zero by the decision of a steward when that driver had done nothing wrong. The FAI love safety cars, second grid starts etc because it increases the "excitement". It's like the ref disallowing a goal just to give the other team a chance.

    It's shown that races can be won or lost on a coin toss. That one man can decide who wins. Imaging the 5000 meters where an official decides that all the athletes must bunch back up together. It would be exciting but totally unsporting.

    Terribly biased commentary on BBC website, stating all sorts of things about Red Bull benefiting from rules not being applied, but don't seem to have mentioned at all about Hamilton getting away with a blatant breach at the start. Almost like they're biased.

    Your first season watching F1? Cos teams have been bending rules since the dawn of time using the type of logic above. Its the reason why the rule book is the size of a phone-book.

    Hopefully next season its not Mercedes versus red bull again. Nobody on either side is particularly likeable (well I like Bottas and Checo, but no Hamilton or Verstappen or the bosses)...

    Hollow victory for Max.

    Spent 50 laps in second place, 15 secs behind Hamilton up to the crash.

    Had a series of fortunate events:

    Latifi crashed and SC sent out.

    Was well placed to swap tyres.

    Hamilton was not placed to swap tyres.

    Race restarted with one lap to go.

    Lapped cars were told to get out of his way.

    We came for the drama and got it, but a clear cut win from either driver would have been far more preferable. Max is probably sitting and waiting for deliberations instead of doing body shots off Kelly Piquet.

    At the end of the day, goals win games and places win races.

    Yup, thought he took it very well. Really dont understand the hate this guy gets.

    Delighted for Max, Hamilton has been robbed right at the end as he drove really well in this rac but he has also been very lucky with some decisions earlier this season..
