No thread yet so might as well set one up with the provincial club championships starting very soon

Quite a number of finals have already taken place in both Hurling and Football, with some more taking place over the next few weekends

If I'm looking correctly 2 clubs around the country have the chance to do the senior double. Kilmacud Crokes in Dublin and Loughmore-Castleiney in Tipperary. Wonder how many senior duel players they have

Surprised no extra time in the Tipp senior hurling final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭jeff bingham

Surprised too, not what Loughmore need with the football next weekend.

Can't believe Na Fianna were 9 points up against Kilmacud Crokes with 9 minutes to go, couldn't close it out and ended up getting a shellacking in extra time 08-01.

Bloody hell. Something wrong with a competition that has two teams with that much of a gap between them playing each other.

Apparently the Wicklow team got to the semi final of their county competition, other 3 semi finalists were clubs 2nd teams so ineligible for provincial competition, still a crazy result.

There can be huge gaps in quality between teams at the Junior level championship in Leinster. In 2018 Dunnamaggin won all the matches by 10+. There was a special Junior Leinster club championship for the weakest counties prior to 2015. Maybe it should be brought back.

Some going for Kilmacud to do the senior double. Any dual players involved ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,178 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Rory O'Carroll I think. Well he was dual previously.

Think the full back in hurling Sheedy is their only dual player.

Naas completed the senior double too in Kildare, first football title in 31 years and won the minor A hurling title as well. Not a bad year for them

Connacht semi final Mountbellew Moylough v Padraig Pearses that was going to be live on TG4 on Sunday is off due to a covid outbreak in Mountbellew.

Refixed now for Dec 11th. Any word on how many MM players were affected? I wonder if it'll have much/any effect on them

I really like the look of Mountbellew Moylough, I think they should be more than good enough to win Connacht. I can’t see any team being good enoug Kilmacud in Leinster. Ulster as always is the most open. The 3 standout teams up there for me are Kilcoo (2020 All Ireland finalists), Glen (who have a lot of their team made up of the 2011 - 2014, 4 in a row winning Ulster minor club championship teams who are now aged between 24 and 28) and Dromore (who came through the highly competitive, high quality Tyrone championship). Kilcoo are my pick. In Munster I think the Kerry winners should be good enough. Stacks and Rahillys is a tough one to call but Rahillys are my pick. Finbarrs should get over the line in Cork and will put up a challenge.

My prediction for the 4 semi finalist is Mountbellew Moylough, Kilmacud Crokes, Kilcoo and Kerins O’Rahillys.

Not entirely on topic but does anyone know if the Galway Senior hurling final is on a TV station this weekend and if not is there a Galway Tv or anything like set up to stream the matches. Trying to set it up for the father in law. Thanks in advance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,201 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

Its not on RTE and TG4, I think Beo Sport have streamed Galway games this year.

Didn't watch the games today but I wish the indiscipline would stop its a blight on the games either players mentors or supporters getting involved with each other or officials . Its the main gripe I have with our games and gives the knockers a nice handy reason to knock the association .

I’m sure people have seen the incident involving the mountbellew players and the referee yesterday after their game. Disgraceful stuff and I hope the book is thrown at several of those players. They deserve very lengthy bans.

Irrelevant how poor his performance was (and I don’t even know that it was) you just can’t be physically interfering with the ref like that and I hope the GAA come down very hard on the players and the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭Choochtown

Well said Guru. The players that physically jostled the ref can very easily be identified from video. GAA needs to send out a strong signal now.

The decision not to give a mark to Mountbellew was a poor one but the ref was unsighted and it was a mistake ... nothing more than that.

Plenty of mistakes made by Mountbellew players throughout the match but it's just too easy for them to point to a ref's mistake instead.

Awful hurling match on TG4 here. Midleton very poor. Beaten out the gate from pillar to post.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,376 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

Refs decision not to award the mark was correct as he was inside the 45.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,864 ✭✭✭flasher0030

No he wasn't. The ball was kicked from outside the 45. Look at around 15 seconds into video in this. https://www.balls.ie/gaa/mountbellew-moylough-refereeing-decision-494498

And focus on the flag along the side line which indicated the 45 line, and the position of the kicker. He was well outside the 45.

Only plausible explanation is that the ref thought the inside guy had dropped it and regathered it as he fell to ground.

Horrendous red card call against Noel McGrath

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,315 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Red card my hole, joke of a decision from Jonny Murphy as usual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,243 ✭✭✭✭RMAOK

Definitely not a red. At the very most, a yellow, but even then it'd be harsh imo. There was stuff going on with mcgrath and the ballygunnar number 9 before that that the linesman didn't see. He must have seen something in the incident that mcgrath was put off for. What that was is anyone's guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Jaysus these Ballygunner boys are going down easy shall we say

It should be said it was never a penalty and John McGrath was stupid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,315 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Big dive then from Barry Coughlan to get John McGrath absolute scam artist.

The Tipp men are just launching the ball in. No pattern to their play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭JJs Left Hand

Well they only have 13 players now so not sure what pattern you expect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,315 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Another game ruined by the referee.

Loughmore shot themselves in the foot. They should know if you play on the edge like that someday you're going to get a poor referee flashing cards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 608 ✭✭✭Treble double

Ya, the conditions were a great leveller today and would have benefitted Loughmore but they got caught out by a ref that was going to punish niggle

Weather killed the game in Dungarvan but Ballygunner will be happy with the win. Kilmallock very impressive and will be big favourites going into the Munster Final

Ballyhale will be massive favourites going into the Leinster final. Will be a massive occasion for Clough/Ballacolla

Really needs to be something done about the Galway champions automatically advancing to the All Ireland Senior Club Hurling Semi Finals each season. Bring them into the Leinster or Munster Championship and rotate AI semi final pairing each year (one year Munster vs Ulster, other Leinster vs Munster etc)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 608 ✭✭✭Treble double

I would have Ballygunner as favourites for Munster. If it is played on a decent pitch on a calm day I could see them beating Killmallock by 6 points plus.

The game today was played in shocking conditions and for a team that plays an intricate brand of hurling they still managed to get the result against a dog of a team that would have revelled in the conditions.

Middleton were shocking today so it's hard to know where Killmallock are at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,201 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I presume Ballygunner Killmallock will be in Thurles. Looks fairly open in both codes this year, Ballyhale haven't convinced last couple of weeks and same with Ballygunner today.

Didn't like some of the play acting from Ballygunner but I think its a problem across the board.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,474 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Are the AI Senior Hurling Semi Finals

    Munster vs Ulster

    St Thomas (Galway) Vs Leinster

    The 2019/20 semi finals were

    Leinster vs Ulster

    Galway vs Munster

    Year before was

    Munster vs Leinster

    Galway vs Ulster

    Obv no 2020/21 championships

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,243 ✭✭✭✭RMAOK

This year, I think, it's St Thomas's vs the ulster champions and munster vs leinster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,474 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

If that's the case then IF Ballygunner win Munster they will be cursing their luck once again. Possibly another an All Ireland Semi Final against Ballyhale awaits

Ballyhale are hurt after yesterdays terrible performance and you feel will be out to destroy poor Clough/Ballacolla this weekend

Ballyhale have been struggling all year really and only hurling in fits and starts.. however I would say the further they go the harder to beat they will be..if I was ballygunner I'd rather try catch them in a semi than meet them in a final..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,178 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

The have to get over Kilmallock first which won't be an easy task.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 670 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

Very true.. ballyhale also have to get through Leinster final..I was only talking about if and when they met which might suit ballygunner better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 670 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

Once ballyhale got going today they were very impressive.joey consistent as ever.. Richie Reid was excellent.. Eoin Cody is the real deal..TJ average by his exceptional standards I know he got a knock in the first half and is recovering from a wedding but I wonder if his legs are going? You would feel for ballacolla they started well but faded quickly..
