Got a photo memory from ten years ago & we had one string of traditional bulbs with about 300 lights on the tree.

Fast forward to this year and although the tree isn’t up yet, I’ve just bought another box of LEDs - 1,000 to add to the 3,000 that were on it last year

    😁🎄

Rule of thumb......if it can't been seen from outer space then you don't have enough!

I've 1000 on at the moment and it looks nice...but I will be first in line to buy 2000 next year!

Christmas FM had a discussion on this and apparently its recomemnded that for every foot tall your tree is you should have 150 lights. So a 6ft tree should have 900 with an 8ft tree having 1200....

Ours are all 7ft tall and would have 1000 on them which is close enough to the 1050 that this formula would suggest and its more than enough for us.

I have 1000 but really should have bought 2000 but they are now out of stock! Definitely buying the extra 1000 for next year

We go for a small tree, so only 1000.

My parents used to use only two sets of 40 each. LED - very early LED - 1980s red and green, no white back then, hadn't been invented yet. Amazing what seemed normal at the time.

IIRC our tree has 2x 600 LED sets so 1200 in total. 10ft Tree.

I’ve a 7ft tree but only have 500 lights I do think it’s too little. So I think next year I’ll up it to 1,000.

None, not a single one! Like most Swiss households we use candles. Apart from the odd expat, commercial premises, public spaces etc. lights on trees is not a thing. You use candle holders with clips to clasp the branches, heavy chocolate decorations to hold branches in place and you light the candles.

Don't think the house insurance people over here would like that too much!

We have a 1000 on our 7ft Nebraska & it's the right amount...we used to do 500 but it wasn't enough! You'll defo want the 1000 next year...especially with mini Loughc on the scene 😀...our tree has no baubles on the bottom third...our toddler has plucked them all off and is stashing them around the house...but when the lights are switched on, you don't notice so much 😅

We have 1,240 (1K set and 240 set) on our second 7ft tree. OH decided last night it's not enough and she wants more!

I think she has an issue 😜

I have about 1650 or 1700 there abouts on my 7ft.. I got bought a set of 1500 last year as I bought a new much bigger tree, it was too big for the room so needed to go back to the older one.. the tree is lost under the lights this year!

Maybe the real question should be, what size tree do I need for the number of lights I have??

  • Registered Users Posts: 274 ✭✭Mutleyboo

Lol or maybe I should move to a bigger house to accommodate another tree!

Just 300 warm whites on a 6 ft skinny-ish tree, it could use another set, but I can't imagine 1650 - it would light up the whole (small) place! :D

I have 1,500 cluster lights on my slim 7 foot tree- it's only just enough, they are so twinkly and small, so not overpowering.

Not enough. I have two trees and which one goes up depends on who's around. The pre-lit tree has 500, the other one gets about 2000 wrapped around it. Unfortunately the pre-lit one has gone up again this year as I was out of circulation and my sister put it up for me.

    I'd say 100

I used have nightmares untangling larger sets.

We've 1000 on our 7 foot and seems the right amount, ours is the "branchy" type as apposed to bushy. I go out along each branch and back in instead of sort of wrapping them around the tree. It gives it a great appearance of dept.
