Would you start him or Coombs at 8 if both were fit and playing well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Dunmoreroader

Honestly, it's a toss of the coin for me despite Coombes getting all the awards over the past year or so, but look I'm biased being from Waterford. Maybe if JOD was from Cork there might be more advocates for him getting another shot with Ireland. He was at the same stage in his career as Coombes is now, couple of caps for Ireland, when he got the bad injury. He's made it back with Munster in a big way but the injury and long rehab appear to have consigned his International career to the scrapheap. Even allowing for the new kids on the block, it's perplexing.

    Ticket Update from MRSC

As you are aware, following on from the latest government update last week, Munster Rugby will need to reduce the capacity for the upcoming fixtures against Leinster, Ulster, and Wasps at Thomond Park.

Under the new government measures the number of spectators attending sporting events are to be limited to a 50% capacity, to a maximum of 5,000 people. The measures stay in place until 30 January, but this date will be kept under review.

In order to facilitate the reduced capacity of 5,000 for these fixtures the MRSC will need to run a lottery for members.

As per the MRSC constitution the lottery is open to all members who hold a season ticket with priority access tiered as follows:

    11-game season ticket holders

    9-game season ticket holders

    7-game season ticket holders

    Associate members

Everyone who holds a valid season ticket will be automatically entered into the lottery for the Leinster game and successful applicants will be contacted with match details by 1PM Wednesday, December 22. Each membership with a season ticket will count for one place in the lottery.

Lotteries for Ulster and Wasps will be held at a later stage and follow-up details will be sent to all members once confirmed.

If you are unsuccessful for any of the three games, you can select one of the below options –

Avail of a refund for the respective game(s) minus your MRSC 25% discount.

Claim the credit which will be applied to your account and can be used for additional ticket purchases when they are available.

Claim the credit and use it for the 2022/23 renewal of your membership/season ticket.

We are also hugely grateful to any members who have expressed their wish to leave any possible refund or credit with the club and this option will be available to any member who wishes to take it.

Please note unsuccessful members for the Leinster fixture will be prioritised for the Ulster fixture on Saturday, January 8 with it reverting to an open draw for the Wasps fixture on Sunday, January 23.

The priority for this process is to ensure as many members get an opportunity to attend a game as safely as possible throughout this period.

We have loved having you all back at Thomond Park this season and your support has meant a huge amount to the club in these challenging times.

Thank you, as ever, for that support and stay safe this festive season.

    SUAF

VDF is at his best when he is with a strong carrying 6 and 8 like Conan/Doris or Beirne plus they are much better ball players than CJ was. He doesn't really work with POM at 6 as POMs strengths aren't really his carrying. So I think we got the best out of VDF when playing with Conan/Doris or another strong carrying 6.

It's not directly said, but it reads like those who get a Leinster ticket won't be in the draw for an Ulster ticket, which is fair enough.

I'd largely agree with this, but it being the Munster thread, I'd fip it ad VDF doesn't really work with POM. ;) (Just wanted to make the point that, as good as he's been recently, I didn't think the 18 months was quite accurate).

Yes, it sounds like that ok.

I wonder is ok to transfer the ticket after winning one? I might want swap mine with a family member

JOD is a great player but he does not have the same ball carrying power that Coombes has, and is a long way off coombes over the ball.

Coombes all day for me, but JOD is a fine player.

Fair enough, but my original point wasn't a binary question; JOD or Coombes, it was regarding the complete lack of mention of or speculation on JOD for Ireland squad backrow berths. Said my bit, got some answers, I'll leave it there.

    For now.

Duncan Casey in The Examiner is saying Tom Daly could be moving from Connacht to Munster to replace DDA

An 8 running at a fullback and just about got it down is your sample size?

Would you honestly take JOD over Coombes or Dorris as your test match 8?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,098 ✭✭✭Poorside

Very good player, not in the same stratosphere as DDA though. And if we're losing Farrell as well we'll have to find a good big lump.

I think the last time I looked at our contract list, all (or almost all) of our centres are out of contract this summer. Second rows too?

Can we have bundee as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,575 ✭✭✭sioda

I'd there anything to be said to breaking the bank to keep DDA?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,812 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

We didn't break the bank to sign him in the first place, there's private investment involved. Even if that source of money is still there (and it's supposed to be) the IRFU may not want him to get another contract. The word is that he won't be staying.

I wonder will DDA be looked back in time the same terms as Halstead or Jean De Villiers? My suspicions are more like J D Villiers

The Leinster game is off. More Covid cases in the Leinster squad.

JOD's biggest problem is he frequently ends up playing behind a mediocre tight 5, imo. If you put him into the Leinster first team he'd look like a star.

Could put pay to any possibility of an appeal by Leinster overturning the Montpellier 28-0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,493 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

And Munster themselves possibly happy enough with the postponement if it means any replay could have the chance of a higher attendance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,786 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Undercooked squad already and now another game to squeeze into the calendar.

Does the league and the Heineken cup not play by the same rules? Or was rob kearneys wedding given an exemption?

If you get hit by covid then you forefit the game 28-0.

Weird Leinster couldn't field any sort of side tbh

feck it, What am I supposed to do now, talk to my family?

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

I guess however many tested positive last week would still be isolating.

Plus however many tested positive today, you would have to test everyone again and cancel training tomorrow

Meaning they could only train Thursday

This is all assuming they had enough players to make a squad

Yup. Be curious to see when it gets rescheduled to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,493 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Different competitions will have different participation agreements. And I think there's obvious reasons why an inter-pro might be easier re-schedule than a european game.

When it comes to rescheduling the only free weekends I can see, unless both get knocked out of Europe early, are 6N weekends.
