    You would always have three 9s in every travelling or match day squad, just in case one got injured in the warm up. Always travel with extra prop, hooker, utility forward, 9 and sort of 10/utility back.

    It is but majority wont play or even be expected to play. Need to have a minimum number of scrum halves registered as its a specialist position, even tho regs dont say it unlike for front rows. Murray will most likely as you say play every minute bar injury but in case he pulls up in warm up or whatever then you need quite a few registered.

    seemed a lot quieter around the U20’s set up this year, screening camps etc…

    Usually Munster A/ Leinster A V Irish 20’s over Christmas period

    they play italy next weekend and then the usual A team warmups over christmas.. its usually pretty quiet on the 20's until christmas.

    Is Daniel Okeke still eligible for the 20’s for this coming 6 nations? I see that he only turns 20 on the 26th of December.


    Is anyone willing to take a stab at what the starting 23 might be for the 6 nations? I appreciate one or two projected lineups were done on here previously, but I’d be curious to see if any personnel changes are expected due to AIL form / recent training squad selections etc.

    20s eligibility is 1st january 2002. so all players must be born in 2002/03/04.

    Okeke is overage for 20s.

    LSDrugbyfan has posted likely teams. so similar enough to those though the games over christmas and then the AIL etc and provincial appearances will likely change those...

    Think it shows the inner politics within Irish rugby and the power leinster rugby holds. 7 UCD lads starting with a combined 7 starts between them in AIL rugby. Plenty of u20s playing AIL week in week out that are being overlooked.

    What is the story with Munster/Leinster A fixtures V Irish 20’s over Christmas do Munster players and Leinster usually line out with respective Provinces for this? Obviously Only a handful of Munster players compared to Leinster players involved.

    It depends on year/squad depth in positions. Some players from Leinster may play with Leinster against the 20s to allow more players from Connacht/Ulster/IQ(Exiles) get games and same with Munster for the Munster game

    hardly a surprise, the irish u20 squad will likely be in some sort of bubble during the 6 nations and McCormick is the only u20 hooker with an academy contract at the moment.

    And with Herring with Ireland and possibly Roberts with Wales it will mean Ulster only have 2 contract hookers with one of them being a 20 year old who's never started for Ulster.

    is there a Max no. of Players to a Squad/Extended Squad? Just with the Omicron varient & with recent events with squad members testing positive will Richie Murphy select a wider than normal pool of U20’s ?

    No max number. No regulations for any training squads. Only usually a limit for the JWC in June. Nothing for 6 nations
