Saw the second half, really open game. Fantastic result for Celtic in the end. Let’s hope the injuries are not too serious, you never know with muscle injuries.

Missed the game but heard Kyogo pulled his hamstring! Going to be really short up front going into such a busy and important time for us

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

It didn’t look that bad at all, seemed to tweak it in a tackle, and tried to play on. He didn’t pull up while running full pace, these are usually the worst kind to get. I suspect Ajeti (sp?) hamstring will be more severe.

Given the way Celtic play, some have argued that hamstring injuries can be very common at this time of the year. Or is it just down to bad luck?

Abada's deliveries from the corners were really good last night.

Brilliant goal from Rogic at the end of the first half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Strange one today. Without a striker in the team we actually still created a ton of chances. Especially the first 25 minutes or so of the second half we should have been at least 3 up. Yet we missed some really glaring chances and their keeper made a few really good saves so without the second goal it was a bit tense in the end there but really the game was not as close as the 1-0 suggests. Rogic not just for the winner was again superb. Without a recognized striker his creativity was crucial today.

We missed an awful lot of chances and Motherwell created a few as well

Rogic is back to his best under Ange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Considering we played without a recognised striker we really did create a lot of clear cut chances. We need to be much more clinical though as that should have been a comfortable one. Totally agree with you about Rogic he was head and shoulders the best player on the park. Superb performance.

Would like to see Scales get an opportunity tonight. Reckon his height could be beneficial in both boxes.

    HT 0-1

Great cross by Scales and Abada scores

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

1-1 Scales on the wrong side of his man and the Ross Country player scores

Dominating the possession but that means nothing if you do not put chances away

bloody hell, Celtic down to 10. Starfelt was booked for complaining with blood flowing from his nose about an elbow which the ref missed. Takes down a Ross County player (looked soft) and the ref booked him again.... pitiful from the ref

Ralston scored in the last minute of added time to win the game.... well deserved but far too lax earlier

That video above is from Ross County TV and Stephen Craigan is hurting big time as co-commentator !

Big Tony fcuking Ralston saves Christmas!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Could be a crucial one there. Ref did everything he possibly could to stop us. Stone wall penalty “not seen”. Starfelt the softest second yellow card ever. That didn’t affect the game, we still kept driving forward and dominating. Job done and especially with the injury list that’s all that matters.

Fair play to Ange he’s definitely getting good performances and effort from the players.

Ref knew after the first yellow he was going to send off Starfelt. No way would that 2nd yellow have been given in any other circumstance, he just didn't like Starfelt having a go at him over the previous incident. Dreadful refereeing.

Great efforts after the equaliser to get the win, esp with that ridiculous sending off. Those are the games that win leagues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

Just another "honest mistake" in a season already over flowing with them. The whole Starfelt situation was an utter disgrace. Rogic when he came on was the difference maker and fitting it was his perfect cross with even his weaker foot that set Ralston up for the winner.

How much that goal hurts the likes of Craigen just makes it all the sweeter.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

Finely balanced at HT, we've dominated possession and created a few half chances but Hibs becoming a bit more of a threat as the half went on.

Johnson & Abada not creating enough and Kyogo has had no service.

Ref another shocker as per usual

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

    F**k sake, shocking defending there

    Kyogo!!!!!

Congrats to Celtic and Ange for winning his first trophy! I know a lot of fans had Celtic written off this season, but things can change quickly, and I made this point back in the summer. Looks like we could have a proper title battle this season, it would be absolutely fantastic for the game in Scotland if it comes to pass. I saw the highlights, it looks like Hibs were denied a stone wall penalty at the death, blatant push in the back. Scotland needs VAR to be brought in ASAP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

If you think that was a penalty, you must think the foul on Taylor in the first half was one as well.... Beaton waved play on

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

I didn’t see it ADIG, I didn’t get to watch match due to a family commitment. The one at the end was an appalling decision, if circumstances were reversed, Celtic forums would be awash with rage. And rightly so. Celtic defender used two arms and extended them into players back, crazy from defender. It’s the most obvious penalty not awarded I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t know if ref saw it and was playing advantage or simply didn’t realise what had happened. He can give it to next phase, but then needs to call it back for penalty. Refs are human, there is a technology there to give them some help and it needs to be used. That said, two wonderful wonderful goals by Kyogo worthy of winning any game, and consensus is that Celtic just about deserved it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Twitter and Youtube is full of people saying both Kyogo goals were offside. As you will see below, both are well on and it is all about Kyogo's movement which fools the defenders. VAR will certainly help Kyogo as he is called offside more times when he is on

    First goal

    Second goal

The Hibs defender kicked the achilles of Taylor and then pushed him, the ball then fell to Starfelt who missed his header... Beaton waved play on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

We were not at our best but over the 90 minutes but fully deserved that win and what an accomplishment. Considering the utter shambles, we were in on day 1 of pre-season to turn around today and win the League Cup is truly remarkable and what a goal to win it by Kyogo a goal worthy of winning any Cup Final. Another superb performance from Rogic as well today too. We are far from the finished article certainly but one thing we do clearly have in abundance with this new Celtic team is incredible mental toughness and resilience.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

It is so hard for refs, if there is technology available, which there is, it must be used. It can’t be that expensive. With a strong Celtic and Rangers, sponsorship revenue for the league will only get better, and a rising tide will lift all boats making it more affordable for all. VAR isn’t perfect, that’s for sure, but it gets more discussions right than it gets wrong. Looking at it again, I don’t think ref is in best position to see push, this is no fault of his. But if he sees this on screen, Hibs have a chance to take game to extra time. I can’t see how anyone could objectively disagree with anything I’ve written.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Again, people are looking at decisions against Hibs and not balancing with decisions against Celtic. In the first couple of minutes of the game, you had a definite booking as a Hibs player clattered into a Celtic player - nothing given. The first player booked was a Celtic player for his first foul. The penaty incident in the first half that almost everyone is ignoring - nothing given. Yet we hear everything about the Starfelt push and how that should have been given so that Hibs take the game to ET. What is missed is the fact that in that same passage of play, Hibs had two excellent chances to equalise and they missed both of them (the one that hit the post and the rebound that was blazed over)

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,607 ✭✭✭TheCitizen

Enjoyed that. Brilliant for Ange who clearly wasn’t the first choice for the job but we could have got lucky that we’ve ended up with him. Kyogo is genuinely top class. That’s a real boost to win the league cup with the game v rangers approaching in January. Hart has been brilliant as well and has bailed out the defenders like Starfelt when needed.

Absolutely, no issue with that ADIG. Fans will always point to the fact that refs also missed decisions against their team. This is the ‘these things tend to even themselves’ mantra. The reality is all Rangers fans think Celtic get all the decisions, to an equal degree, all Celtic fans think Rangers get all the decisions, and all other clubs think both Celtic and Rangers get all the decisions! Neither of these three statements is correct. What is correct is the necessity to bring VAR in ASAP so the number of wrong decisions is minimised. You will never get rid of them completely, and many decisions still come down to interpretation. And this is ok too, it allows people to be passionate and express views on certain incidences.

The Scottish Government have effectivley made football behind closed doors from 26th Dec for 3 weeks. This affects

St Johnsone v Cetic on 26th Dec

Celtic v Hibs on 29th Dec

Celtic v Rangers on 2nd Jan

The 3 week winter break was due to start on 3rd Jan and Celtic have asked the SPFL to bring the winter break forward to 26th Dec and reschedule the games. Absolute sensible request, let's see if the other clubs support it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭crossman47

Rangers won't support it. They will want to go to an empty Parkhead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,774 ✭✭✭eire4

A meeting of the top flight clubs tonight was strongly in favour of moving the winter break forward to avoid games being played with no fans. 10-2 was the numbers in favour with you know who and Ross County being the only ones against the move which strikes me as an absolute no brainer.

Here is Alan Burrows the Motherwell CEO on the current situation and getting it spot on IMHO.

Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Twitter: "🗣”I’d like that to be the last resort, rather than the first. The mental health impact of going and having that interaction - let’s try & protect that. If it transpires we can’t, at least we’ve tried.” ❌ @MotherwellFC CEO @Alan_Burrows doesn’t want to play in empty grounds. https://t.co/RrpWnL5OIu" / Twitter

Hopefully sense will prevail and the Scottish football authorities will bring forward the winter break. Just means there’s a chance of avoiding the behind closed doors situation. Poor stuff from you know who as you say on this and Ross County, don’t know why they’re being awkward?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

Lots to consider here, it’s not a straightforward decision. The issue is the variant wave, it’s not expected to peak for a few weeks yet. So realistically are there going to be fans in the ground in the middle of January or the end of January? I’m not medical expert, but I suspect not. If the answer is no, then you’d have to question the sense of it?? It is just kicking the can down the road. It absolutely suits Celtic to request it because as things stand they are only permitted 500 fans to attend the big Old Firm Derby in January. You also have to consider the issue of fixture congestion later in the season. If Celtic go on a run on the new competition, which is very possible, then the number of dates to play games gets smaller. I think Sky TV will have a big say on matters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

    Frustrating first half, no goals

The SPFL have decided to play the games on Sunday with the restrictions in place and postpone the rest of the games. The rescheduled games below

    Celtic v Hibs 17th Jan 19.45

    Celtic v Rangers 2nd feb 19.45

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,294 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

What a dreadful advert for football. Total domination, total possession but could not break them down.... ineffectual. Abada and Johnston are not the answer at all

We would have been far better giving the ball to St Mirren and hope to catch them on the break

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,093 ✭✭✭Brewster

A very disappointing result to be fair, it was largely against a second string Saints team as they have been riddled with Covid. I think the winter break could be coming at a very good time for Celtic, but they certainly need to win their next league game to keep the pressure on.
