    Would say Farrells would be good dealer to sell MG or Simon kavanaghs

    Tom Murphys must be worst dealer for MB in country , you would swear Bolands were running them . Feck all secondhand Mercs. and boring stock of new models .

    While their MB showrooms are decent enough , no proper size forecourt either . When you see how impressive Bolands in Wexfords MB premises are.

    yes Doyles , might have got at good price , Tom Murphys must have spent a fortune on premises but it shows how dual franchise dealerships dont really work . The Mercedes dealership just feels like a VW dealership with MB added on

    😂😂 I merely found it funny to myself that i mentioned, competition, regulation etc etc so often that it took me that long to remember the competition regulator and that reminded me of an episode of the Simpsons or a Homer Simpson moment where he couldn't remember they the name of the movie speed but mentioned the word speed over and over again.

    Bolands have a presence in Carlow too.


    Not sure how much truth is behind this but I was told they own the franchise for Hertz in Ireland too.

    Guaranteed supply of (ab)used rental cars every year to flip in their forecourts.

    No they no longer sell Hertz cars on their forecourts , hence not many used cars on their forecourts . For some reason they opened Hertz car sales ( i know it was to get rid of all hire cars not used last year ) to sell their ex hire cars at low prices when they could have just sold them at their many car dealerships .

    So used car buyers in Wexford , Waterford and Carlow must travel to the big cities where Hertz sell cars rather than their local Boland garage .

    logic ?

    It's all optics, New showrooms for new cars. They are still trading in second hand cars, they are just not on the new car forecourt. Spotted 2 cars that were traded into a local VW dealers on a used car dealer website, when i looked a bit more i spotted a few other cars that were traded for new VW's..... It's just the way they are handling stock these days.... tradesales.ie is part of the Boland group as well as Hertz as already mentioned.

    i know all about the Boland group , the showrooms might be for new cars but forecourts have always been used cars .I live in Cork and aside from J & P , dealers are just as into used cars as new .

    Kearys ( who also own Carstore in Dublin and Cork ) have plenty of used cars as well as new cars. Their BMW place is full of used cars even now and its not that they are stuck with them either. They buy in alot of stock to sell. Great motor group .

    So you have discovered that Dublin and Cork are more prosperous than Waterford and South East and that BMW sales and numbers are an indicator of that? Tell us something we didn't know and in the process stop being so glib about local car showrooms. Or are you running down things for the sake of it?

    In any event car sales have been affected by shortage of chips for new cars. New cars have not been available meaning that cars are not being traded in, hence shortage of second hand cars.

    Its not about running down Waterford , its about the fact that there are feck all used cars for sale in Waterford as the main dealers are almost all owned by one dealer group - they do the same in Carlow and Wexford - and the local dealer has no interest in selling used cars meaning local buyers have to travel far to buy cars that should be for sale locally.

    Autoboland when they were in Newrath always had a good stock of Volvos and other makes for sale. As soon as the shiny new showrooms opened in Butlerstown that all changed. .

    markets have radically changed since then, we ve successfully financialised the whole car market now, and dealers have flocked to selling new cars, prioritising them over used....

    Passed by Cork road last night , showroom and forecourt full of cars but dont seem to have signage up yet . Thought they would have made sure to be fully operational in time for Jaunary reg. Plate.no info on net about the opening either

    its a small enough showroom for Ford in its current form , theres a large rear display area. Wonder if they bought or leased it from the guys who own Dungarvan Nissan

    Oh right sorry forgot .

    Was last on the Cork road in Waterford just after new years, looked like some kind of work going on - on 1st floor showrooms at Tom Murphys . Any changed to premises there this year ?

    I've been fortunate enough to have bought a few brand new cars in my time but not once did a Bolands owned dealership offer to match or beat a competitor's offer for a car - so much so that I've bought new cars in Dublin, Kerry and Cork when I would have preferred to have bought them at my local Waterford dealership.

    Is that the downside on the market when they own so many dealerships ? I hope there will always be reasonable competition.

    yea id say their monopoly is stifling competition, was only talking to a chap over the weekend, always bought his cars from sheridans, he got a far better offer in dublin, so thats where his business has gone to.....

    I am surprised Bolands have not lost BMW - but then theirs not a great land mass to cover for them and hard to think of another dealer opening in Waterford except Colm Quinn

    was passing Waterford city Ford the other day , so stopped to have a look around . Has this place only just opened ? Felt more like a used car lot than a Ford main dealers - basic looking showrooms with only x2 cars in it and forecourt a mix of various makes of cars . Not much signs of New Fords and would not encourage someone to buy a new Ford.

    Did Sheridans lose the Ford agency or did Kia put pressure on them to be a solus Kia dealer ?

    Yeah, I was surprised they didn't knock what was a pretty modest showroom and build something flashier. But maybe they'll build another place on another site and just move location.

    Not sure the background to Sheridans losing / foregoing Ford. Presumably with Bolands having Ford (among so many others) in Wexford, there's a relationship there already. But if EVs go the way they're looking, I'm not sure I wouldn't rather be selling Kia than Ford - they seem to have gotten left a long way behind. VW and Hyundai/Kia have to have the lion's share of that demand at this point I'd imagine (can't find data offhand).

    Actually, here's the Feb 22 figures:

    Surprised at how heavily Hyundai outsells Kia, given they share pretty much everything.
