Vodafone Gigabox router blocking Wifi Calling

    Hi,

I wanted to check if anyone else had an issues with the Vodafone Gigabox router. I live in an area with poor mobile signal so relied on wifi calling. Since I switched broadband provider to Vodafone wifi calling seems to have stopped working. Mobile phone provider confirmed all looks fine from their side.

Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Or an issue with a router or ports which could be blocking the ability to use Wifi Calling?

    Thanks

Unlikely to be blocking in the router. WiFi calling requires high quality seamless WiFi coverage. Most houses will require multiple Access Points or a Mesh system to ensure seamless coverage on a single SSID. Is WiFi calling working when you are close to your router?

I just started a thread. Got a new Gigabox router in the past week. It works perfectly fine except when in bridged mode I get really bad packet loss. Doesn't really help you much I'd say unless you are also bridging it. I've logged a call with vodafone.

Are there only 2 mobile providers support WiFi calling ,Eir and Vodafone?

I suppose OP with Eir mobile?

I guess best advice is to try WiFi calling with different WiFi network. ( friends/public WiFi etc)

It could be fault on Eir side too, regardless what they telling.

Eir & Vodafone are the only networks that support WiFi Calling. New customers on Eir's budget brand GoMo also can avail of WiFi calling.

The Vodafone service is somewhat limited vs the Eir service. Vodafone don't support text messaging over WiFi or use when roaming. Eir support both these scenarios.

You also need to ensure that your handset supports WiFi calling on your network. The safest way is to purchase your handset from your provider. iPhones can migrate seamlessly between networks, but Android is more complex, and requires your handset firmware to have the WiFi calling server settings hard-coded for your specific operator. If your handset manufacturer has never supplied handsets to your network operator, they may not have customized their firmware. If they have supplied even one model, they tend to include the settings in all future firmware released for different models.

I’ve actually heard that Eir WiFi calling on iOS handsets not working smoothly at all ,lots of glitches, android phones ( supported models) are ok.

Vodafone WiFi calling working flawlessly on IOS or Android.

Worked flawlessly for me when I tried a GoMo SIM, it even passed calls between VoWiFi and VoLTE seamlessly (well, ~1 second of a dropout - but to be expected) which Eir says currently isn't available on iOS devices.

Whereas my experience with Vodafone is it will use the mobile network for inbound calls if there's even the slightest sniff of a signal, so I'd have WiFi Calling enabled but 1 very weak bar of network and most of my incoming calls would still go to voicemail because of the poor network. Turn on aeroplane mode so it disconnects the mobile network but re-enable WiFi and inbound calls would then work flawlessly. Outbound calls would always go over WiFi calling no problem.

To go back to the OP: does the gigabox have a firewall or IPsec filtering turned on by default?

Mods feel free to move this post if not 100% relevant to this thread.

I have VF Fibre and have tried using my previous Eir F2000 which works fine for broadband but my handset for calls does not work. I use the handset via Telephone 1 in my VF Gigabox without problems but with the Eir F2000 by plugging the phone into either "Phone 1” or “Phone 2” ports at the back of the modem I can't get the landline to work? Are there any settings to change by any chance to allow Vodafone calls via landline via the F2000?

    Happy Christmas all

Why won’t you use VF Gigabox?

F2000 terrible router ( WiFi access point to be specific ) .

You won’t be able to use Vodafone VoIP setting with Eir router regardless.

I was hoping to use the F2000's supposed superior parental controls or have Vodafone sorted their firmware issues now? I am happy to stick with the VF Gigabox if the controls are usable to restrict access and set time limits etc. If not is ikydz the only solution?

    Thanks
