Just reading this on HSE website for Janssen recipients

From 29 December, you can get your booster by booking an appointment with a participating pharmacy. If you are aged 18 to 29, you may also be able to get your booster at a GP.

I asked for further clarification and was told

"You should speak to a member of staff if you cannot approach reception. Different centres will work in different ways, so you should speak to the staff on the day."

so it looks like they don't know.

I was however impressed by the fact that they responded so quickly each time as I assume they are being hounded by questions about booking PCR tests and such.

Was out in the local shoping centre earlier - and thought of this thread. 2 gardai escorting a family out of a premises and the father looked in at all the shoppers and shouted " the booster is gonna kill all of yas". Now this chap neither looked drunk or on drugs, but he was terribly convincing...

    I did laugh a bit

Got Pfizer booster in the chemist on the way home, previous two were Moderna.

Was grand and handy was in and out in less than 10 mins.

Got Moderna in Boots today, didn’t seem to be anyone before or after me so I was in and out in a matter of minutes. They gave me a vaccine card after, though not sure how valid it is as actual proof for travel, etc but it does have the batch number on it.

Seems like appointments are pointless if Citywest today is anything to go by. Massive queues, everyone in together.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,695 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

That seems to be the case every time a new age group opens (CityWest in particular) wait a day or 2 and it's back to normal till the next group opens up.

Friend had an appointment for Swords today and it was the same there. It was supposed to be appointment only in the morning but they weren't checking and let loads of walk-ins through. Took an hour and a half to get through.

Seems a lot quieter down the country which suggests they have (again) underestimated the capacity needed in Dublin.

Went to Cork City Hall this morning at 10am - was out by 10.05am - grand and fast, no queue

I have Covid at the minute but I can't get an appointment for a test. I will be annoyed if I don't get one AND I'm forced to get a booster in a month or two

Ring your GP and they can refer you for a test.

Got my Moderna booster yesterday morning; fever, aches and fatigue since yesterday afternoon.

I had Covid this time last year and this booster illness is slightly worse.

I was pro vaccine but now that more restrictions are being enforced and my experience of my booster illness, I have to question the overall efficacy of the whole booster programme.

Edit: to clarify: I question the point of the boosters for low risk groups; if you are vulnerable then by all means. But me getting a booster has shown to not curb the spread of the virus to any significant degree.

My illness after the 2nd Moderna was much worse than most of the accounts I’m reading of Omicron infection. There’s no way I’m chancing a booster, I’d much rather catch this.

  • Registered Users Posts: 533 ✭✭✭Mr rebel

Yep I totally agree and I currently have the exact same side effects as you too having got Moderna yesterday. I was also knocked out after my second Pfizer jab but this one feels even worse than that.

Had mine at 11:25 and was out by 11:35 and there were two lines one with appointments and one for walk ups, or at least that’s how it seemed. I felt they had a better system in place to get you registered in there then when I went there in the summer. I feel grand though which is good.

Moderna seems to be causing more side effects for those who had Pfizer before. What's it like for those who had Moderna before?

    Edit - misread question

Anybody get pins and needles in their leg after moderna booster? Have had a friend saying that today, seems pretty random!

I got my Pfizer booster 9 days ago and I'm still not 100% after it, still very fatigued and with daily headaches. This is very different to the initial two doses whereby I only felt a bit fatigued and a mild headache for a day or two. After 9 days I'm wondering how long more is left in it. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Of course there's also the possibility that it's covid itself but have taken two antigen tests which were both negative. Currently unable to book a test.

I agree and the Moderna booster is only a half dose of the originals.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Got Moderna booster after Pfizer and I feel the same....no affects after Pfizer but the Moderna booster knocked me out

There was a doctors surgery with multiple doctors near where I lived for a brief period, I went on a one off visit for prescription renewal a long time ago and that was that. In the last 2 weeks I have been bombarded with texts from them to get the booster, almost spam like. I think this really highlights the profiteering element of this entire charade, they are not doing this out of concern for my well being. I heard absolutely nothing from them when the initial vaccines were being administered.

I think they're under direction from the government to do this. Received a couple texts from a local GP who knows I haven't been a patient there for years. Frankly, I've no problem with it as people avoid going to the Dr and this may catch a few that haven't got their jabs yet. It's just a text, easily ignored.

Just to dispel this stupid notion that GPs are profiteering from giving Covid vaccine. The payment for the vaccine is lower than the cost of a GP appointment. Many GPs opted out of the vaccine because of the affect on patient appointments. I own a Clinic which has GPs, they would prefer to focus on ill patients and the reception staff could most certainly do without the constant stream of phone calls from patients who are not yet due for the booster. Your name goes on a database and if you are in the category entitled to a booster, the text goes out, that directive comes from the HSE, not the GP. Trust me, you are just a PPS/telephone number, the reason you didn’t hear from them initially was because if it was a long time since your last visit, under GDPR your details would be removed from their contact database, your recent visit reactivated them.

It really is astonishing to see how misinformed some are two years into this.

There is absolutely no doubt that omicrone will not be the last letter of the Greek alphabet we will get to learn, so being registered there and them being proactive may benefit you someday. Assuming of course you understand the benefits of both the Clinic and the vaccine. No guarantee of that.

Incidentally, you can request that they delete your details. Give them a call.

This didn’t drive me into any uncontrollable rage, but I’d disagree with your very innocent assumption that it’s “to catch those that avoid the doctor” as if it’s kind gentle reminder looking out for people. As I said they weren’t sending these messages when the initial vaccines were being administered. Call it as it is, it’s profiteering trying to get as many in as possible and it is by definition spam, an unsolicited message sent to many seeking to gain in some way from it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,570 ✭✭✭✭Dav010

Sorry, I edited my post while you were typing. If it was a long time since your last visit, under GDPR rules you are removed from the Clinics contact database. Hence why you weren’t contacted for the vaccine, and why after your recent visit, your details were added again to the database. Again, you can have them removed, that is your right.

Nialler, in case economics is not your strong point, I’ll try to make this clearer. There is a shortage of GPs in Ireland, as a result, GPs are overwhelmed, particularly this time of the year. The shortage is so bad, that many people cannot even find a Clinic willing to register them. The fee for vaccination is considerably less that what most GPs charge for a visit. So, in your opinion, is it profiteering when you receive LESS money for the service you provide? That would certainly be a unique perspective, especially when the directive comes from the HSE, not the Clinic.

I went once to this surgery once in 2011 for prescription renewal. I haven’t been to them since.

Are you saying that doctors surgeries are not profiting from administering a booster vaccine? And are you seriously making a comparison between somebody attending an appointment, discussing an ailment and subsequently being assessed, diagnosed and given some kind of recommended treatment to somebody being given a routine jab in the arm which by testimony of many here is a process which took no more than ten minutes in and out? If so, that’s ridiculous.

Yes, he is saying that, because it's factual. You're talking to someone who owns a clinic and therefore knows the finances of such things better than you do. Your only argument is that they are outright lying to you, which is cringey at best.

GPs are overwhelmed, there is no need for them to advertise anything. They are only doing so under the directive of the HSE.

If your last visit was 2011, that certainly explains why the clinic did not contact you in relation to the first vaccine. Charts remain active for 8 yrs since last visit, and numbers must be removed from contact database under GDPR rules.

I can assure you Nialler, there is a world of difference between a person visiting a vaccination centre and visiting their GP for a vaccine. The visits are often a combination of vaccine and discussion of other issues. Do not be under any illusions, vaccinations in GPs are not profit generators, they are actually the opposite, but GPs feel it is their duty to their patients, but many do not.

Nialler, if you feel they are profiteering, I would urge you to contact the clinic today. Tell them you want to be removed from their database, that way they will not have to comply with the HSE in relation to you. It is simple to do, and it is your right.
