USB DVB T2 Tuner - for enigma 2 box
-
21-07-2017 5:44pmI'm looking for a USB DVB T2 tuner for an enigma 2 box (technomate). The box doesn't have a DVB T/T2 tuner, nor can one be fitted to it. I plan to fit a saorsat lnb to my dish at a later date.
In the meantime, I'd like to add a USB DVB T2 tuner to my new box.
Would a PS3 PlayTV tuner still work on 2017 enigma box? If not, can anyone recommend one that is < €30?0

it would and its a dual tuner into the bargain, you just need to dowload the correct driver, its db0700 then reboot box with tuner plugged in etc.0

It's not T2 though. Although if it is only for Saorview DVB-T is all you need and the PlayTV should work fine. T2 would be needed for UK Freeview HD channels.0 -
I've (unfortunately) had a good bit of experience with different usb dvb tuners on enigma2. i started with an august T210 (which is a rebranded Geniatech/Mygica T220), which I read had drivers for enigma2. It didn't. Next i tried the sony Playtv to take advanatge of the two tuners. I used the dib0700 driver - but only one tuner appeared available (even though both worked on pc and kodi) Next I tried the astrometa dvb-t2/ dab/fm stick (available for 16 euro delivered from china on ebay). I still haven't got dvb-t2 working (you have to rename adapters according to one thread I found) but dvb-t works ok. I should have just bought a 292e nanoStick in the beginning! It has good dvb-t2 drivers and is very solid according to reports.0

I just got a Technomate TM-twin with a astrometa USB DVB-T tuner, but I can't get the box to recognise the tuner. My laptop finds it so the tuner is working. I've tried installing the driver (dvb-usb-rtl2832 according to freetv) but the box still won't pick up the device. I've flashed the latest openpli image, reinstalled the driver and still nothing. Any ideas?0

i had no problem setting up the astrometa stick. I donwloaded the same driver as you from the feeds, rebooted, and there it was. I'm using Openatv 6.0 on an edision os mini.0

I've contacted the seller and they are testing a few other images, openatv and another one. They were meant to get back to me but never did. I might try openatv myself.0 -

Just wondering if that is the correct driver ...... maybe dvb-usb-rtl28xxU might be the one required?0 -

Reboot your box. Do a hard reboot - ie turn off and on at the switch.
If that doesnt work you can do telnet, login to the box and a dmesg | grep dvb to see whats going on.0 -

Been away from Boards so forgot to reply.
The seller contacted Technomate who said the USB tuner doesn't work for the device yet as there is no driver available for it. I am returning the driver this week.0 -

There isnt drivers for a lot of USB devices!
Anyway who told you there was no driver for it. DVB-T works on these as there is a linux driver for T, just not T2 or C. They are the REALTEK SDR family.
You are using OpenPLi. They got it working. You just need to do a little bit of editing....

I see that you live not too far from freesat down in Marino. Yes they should have the requisite stick. Bring the box down and they will do it for you I'm sure. Thats their business.
Outside of that there is no secret to how the drivers are installed for these sticks. You go to the plugin menu and download the driver for the usb stick you bought (plugins, download plugins, drivers). There are many chipsets supported. All the ones that start dvb-usb-xxxx.
Some have two tuner capability such as the playtv devices. You will also need an MCX to RF cable which junctions the stick to your aerial connection on the wall or indoor aerial. The little aerials that come with USB sticks are useless.

I finally bought a 292e nanostick. I've been using the sonyplaytv tuner for the last few months and I don't think I ever recorded an Irish TV program without breakups or errors. Wow, the 292e is so much better. So far, no breakups in any Irish recordings. It's more expensive than getting a sonyplayTv but so far on my dodgy aerial it is proving a worthwhile investment.0

Looking to add a second terrestrial tuner (USB) to a Formuler box (enigma2), anyone know if this would work?

Don't know the answer about enigma2 support but they are in GameStop for a tenner

I had a quick look at the linux page for this tuner:
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_One_Digital_TV_Tuner
and it seems that it has the dib0700 module which has a driver in enigma
the demodulator (Panasonic MN88472) might prove a problem
Anybody have any ideas?

The driver is already compiled for E2 for that chipset.
Its in Plugins, under Drivers, dvb-usb-dib0700. Install. Reboot.0 -
I couldn't resist nipping into Gamestop and getting one of these 9.99 tuners. well it works perfectly out of the box with librelec kodi (once you enable it in TVheadend) and that will be what I will use it for! (Thanks for the tip Ten Pin!)
But no luck so far with either win10 or enigma. I have the dib0700 downloaded from plugins (and playtv tuner works fine) but the Xbox one tuner is not recognised. I also checked to see if the MN88472 module was in lib/firmware. Theoretically (to my limited knoweldge) it should work - but no luck.
oh well, it's still a cheap dvb-t2 tuner for kodi!0 -

Telnet into the e2 box.
Type lsusb (this is to see if its seeing the usb device)
and then dmesg will give you the error and the firmware it is expecting.
You then need to stick the firmware in the lib/firmware directory. The .fw for that may be on the internet somewhere - it might be the one linked earlier0 -
Hi STB
I've tried those commands
root@osmini:~# lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 045e:02d5
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001
So ID 045e:02d5 (the xbox one tv tuner) is recognised ...but...when i do dmesg, i cant work out what's relevant. here's the longish printout:

From your dmesg
usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 2 using ehci-platform
So from lsusb it recognises it as a USB device.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 045e:02d5
which is the Xbox/Microsoft module and this is what it expects
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_One_Digital_TV_Tuner
Thetuner is the NXP TDA18250 which is supported in Linux from Kernel 4.16 onwards.
There is no mention of the usbcore for dib0700 being registered in your dmesg. You should be seeing
usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700
Ok. Just type these at the root in terminal
opkg update
opkg install firmware-dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20
opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
opkg depends kernel-dvb-usb-dib07000 -
I gave that a try without any luck.
root@osmini:~# opkg install firmware-dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20
Package firmware-dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20 (1.0-r0) installed in root is up to date.
root@osmini:~# opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
Package kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700-4.11.0 (4.11-.6) installed in root is up to date.
root@osmini:~# opkg depends kernel-dvb-usb-dib0700
After reboot, no change. Is the problem the kernel in OpenATV (mine is 4.11)?0 -

Perhaps. You did do a hard reboot after install ? ie turn the box on and off at the switch ?
The patch for these is already written.0 -
Just (hard) rebooted again to make sure - no change.
Thanks STB for the guidance.
I might try and load the latest (unstable) openatv 6.2 image during the week to see if it makes any difference. The kernel is updated. I might even try loading openpli for a test to see if a different kernel makes a difference.
i'll update this thread if i make any progress.0 -

Dealz have the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner for €6
it's the same Bus 001 Device 003: ID 045e:02d5 as above and no it doesn't work on OpenVix on the Edision OS mini yet
Firmware version: OpenViX 5.1.024 (2018-04-08)
Kernel / Drivers: 4.11.0 / 20171106
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_One_Digital_TV_Tuner , Firmware was already on the receiver.
opkg update
opkg install firmware-dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20
opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
opkg depends kernel-dvb-usb-dib0700
I also Installed this
kernel-module-mn88472-4.11.0 (4.11-.6)
mn88472 kernel module mn88472 kernel module; Panasonic MN88472 DVB-T/T2/C demodulator driver
So as above may just wait for the update to firmware 4.16 for TDA18250 support.0 -

I picked up this tuner in Dealz today and tried it on my Edison OS mini (Openvix 5.1.030). No joy either.
Will kernel v4.16 arrive any time soon?0 -
I had a quick look at the linux page for this tuner:
https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_One_Digital_TV_Tuner
and it seems that it has the dib0700 module which has a driver in enigma
the demodulator (Panasonic MN88472) might prove a problem
Anybody have any ideas?

The demodulator needs firmware. dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw is included in most distributions. The demodulator also needs firmware which is not commonly included. Download it and place in /lib/firmware.

You have also loaded the dib7000 driver from plugins ?
And also the panasonic mn88472 kernel ?
You have hard booted (turned it off and turned it back on ?)
What does dmesg say from telnet ?
It should tell you whats missing.
cat /proc/bus/nim_sockets - will tell you what tuners are loaded0 -

@gkp1. There is absolutely nothing installed there from that log to do with the usb dvb-t device. You'd have the errors galore showing or at least the "state" the device is loaded in.
Would you try removing the drivers and load again. You can do it from telnet. Do an opkg update and install the driver and dependancies.
opkg install enigma2-plugin-drivers-dvb-usb-dib0700
opkg -force-depends kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
See if it works (watch for the "Collected errors") as I guess it will look for the .fw file that goes in /lib/firmware (linked earlier)
http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/MN88472/02/latest/
If that dont work...... Theres a guy who wrote the patch0 -

Sorry my linux knowledge is weak. Removed the drivers, did the update and install, the depends seems to fail on syntax?

This is openatv's feeds (from the nonpublic address) I wonder are they missing modules on the formuler 1 for dib700. Like the "kernel-module-tuner-xc2028" and tda18250 is missing.
Yeah I saw the syntax like error for the force depends. I'm no guru myself.
Okay one final time and after that you may try talking to openatv or switch to openvix or even better openpli - they actually fix driver stuff https://openpli.org/download/formuler/F1/.
opkg install kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
opkg files kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
opkg depends kernel-module-dvb-usb-dib0700
And reboot.

All commands run successfully but no sign of tuner after reboot and nothing showing in dmesg output. As you say it is probably time to move on and try some different options. Thanks again.0 -

BTW
OpenVix 5.2 still uses the 4.11.0 Kernel so 4.16 may be a while away

Current version of OpenVIX uses kernel 4.1.20. The Xbox USB tuner detected fine for me once I loaded the driver from plugins and restarted.
What version of OpenVix is that and for what device?
(I downloaded the very latest for my Edison OS Mini and unfortunately it's 5.2.030 with a kernel of 4.11.0)0 -

Also just checked it on my Gigablue UHD UE 4K and it was detected there also (see attached).0

Does anyone know if the xbox tuner will work with openatv 6.2 on Mutant hd51 or hd1500 or zgemma h2s?0

I’ve a Gigablue X3 4K that I’m trying to get 2 Xbox DVBT dongles working with. I’ve tried OpenATV 6.4 and 7 (beta) and have failed to get any channels on both systems. Same with the teamblue flavour of enigma. I suspect it’s something to do with the h.264 encoding that Saorview uses. I can install the drivers for the usb tuner and it’s definitely picking up something when it hits both muxes in my area but it still won’t show me any channels.
Running dmesg | grep dvb gives me this
[ 3.120803] dvb-usb: found a 'Microsoft Xbox One Digital TV Tuner' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
[ 3.136807] dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-dib0700-1.20.fw'
[ 3.863278] dvb-usb: found a 'Microsoft Xbox One Digital TV Tuner' in warm state.
[ 3.870991] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[ 4.098328] dvb-usb: Microsoft Xbox One Digital TV Tuner successfully initialized and connected.
[ 4.107503] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700
(omitting a load of satellite stuff that’s irrelevant)
[ 16.942819] mn88472 0-0018: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-demod-mn88472-02.fw'
[ 17.115697] dvb dvb.0: DVB: registering adapter 0 frontend 0 (Xbox USB Tuner)...
MPEG2 TS is making me think that it might be the issue but I don’t understand the last bit either. Any help would be appreciated.
