How about we ban spray paint?

Ever heard of paint brushes OP?

That's not difficult. Loads of artists use them for legimate use. Some use them for both ligimate and illigitimate use. There are actually grafitti shops that sell them. They even sell the same paint in markers and pens. Google "Molotow" if you don't believe me. You want to ban markers and pens as well?

So the idea of licenceing them is just as stupid as banning them. If you want to stop it, as I said, ban writing.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I remember being told on student protests in the 90s that you couldn’t be done for defacing the pavement. So on marches any time there was a stop, we’d break out the chalk and write and draw on the ground. Gardaí around never did anything about it - I remember writing slogans right at their feet, and not a word from them.

Now like I said, we were using chalk; I’m sure it would have been a different situation if you were using paint. But even using chalk on a private wall could get you done for vandalism. And in the UK there’s cases of police involvement in kids chalking hopscotch games on the pavement.

But back to the matter at hand: there’s a spray technique you can do with paint and a toothbrush, where you load the brush lightly with paint and then rub the bristles back with your thumb, and it sprays the paint. So along with spray cans and writing and walls, we’d have to ban toothbrushes too.

I didn't say you wouldn't want it banned, I said you'd seen why it was a bad idea. The fact that you can't counter the obvious points against the idea kind of proves my point.

Stating the same point again is not countering posts made telling you what it's a stupid idea! On top of that, it proves even more ignorance as you're adovcating banning things that have practical uses if they're also used for crimes, are you not?

Fianna Fáil called for spray paint to be banned for under 18s back in 2014, when they were in opposition. Of course, they never followed through with it once they got into power.

Some people seem to imagine, that there was no such thing as graffiti in Ireland before the tagging era. I mean, tagging however sh¡t it is, it's certainly less offensive than the " I.R.A. Brits out " type stuff which we had before.

Haha. I agree. I mean, ban spray paint... ? then he says you should require a "license" to buy it. I feel like I am dropping in IQ points just reading this lol.

I was told by a graffiti artist that graffiti is only graffiti if it is done free-hand by spray can. Anything else, using stencils etc, is just street art.
