Still the same feelings as my prior thoughts a few posts up: ostensibly great news this is already renewed for a season 4, but do hope there's a plan and actual end to the story. Even trains that circle the world must eventually stop 😁

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,142 ✭✭✭fitz

Wouldn't be surprised if we find out at a later date that season 4 will be the final one. I think they could maybe go to 5, but agree with you, this is a show that needs to resolve. For now, delighted it's getting a 4th season, and looking forward to the 3rd...

She gets one standout episode where she has to account for her actions during the "Wilfred" era, but otherwise she has been a tough character to get a handle on. She talks a good game about maintaining standards during chaos, but hospitality only really worked during the before times. I like her though in balance.

Looking forward to it. A mainstream show with the most significant uptick in quality from season 1 to 2.

^^^ Maybe so, wasn't paying attention to casting news.

Currently re-watching 'The Good Wife' on Albi, head like a sieve for names, recognize by site or sound.

Looking forward to it; nice to watch a show where you're not quite sure where things could go given the premise.

Setup for the current state of the trains.

Anyone else find the dark parts really dark?

Does Wilford know Ruth is on the train?

Trying to genetically modify the baby to being protected against the cold like Bob?

Javi just being made to stay awake 24/7?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

3.1: Yeah, episode gave a decent update on where the major players are. I felt a loss of Jennifer Connelly there especially

towards the end there before the stranger who Layton returned with was unmasked.. I thought it could be her! Was getting my hopes up.

The rest of the cast gave it socks though!

Yeah, that did feel a fair bit..

dark when the baby experiment was being done. Yeah I'd guess the same as like Bob.

Not sure about that being the only thing he might have done to Javi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,363 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

I just meant dark as in not being able to see clearly, especially where Ruth and all were

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,276 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

A decent start, the show misses Melanie though I expect we'll see some contrived story to bring her back. The "visions" worry me - will be quite annoyed if they move from a world where the survivors rely on science and engineering to some kind of "promised land" narrative...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Good first episode that kept the delicate, perilous situation on edge. Hadn't occured to me that without the main train the 1,000 carriages would freeze - but yeah. Things gotta get worse ... 'n all that. Do I detect a little something between Ruth and Pike?

Not sure about the show going a bit Battlestar, with Layton suddenly pulling a Starbuck with his mysterious visions - but equally this show has earned the right for an odd, new swing.

Was sure Pike would speak up.

That ending came about quicker than I expected. Figured would be saved for later and maybe even the season finale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

3.2: That episode felt like laying a lot of groundwork. Maybe dragged a bit.. like they were unsure what to do. Maybe the next one is a big event that needed everyone in a certain place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,042 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Enjoying season 3 mostly so far but have to say those 2 characters who got married have been the most dullest in the entire series so far. No interesting backstories and I'd happily see them killed off in the next episode

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

I know this is a spoiler thread but I’ve only just finished season 2 so please so spoilers.

How many tracks are there? I had thought that there was only one but if Snowpiercer is going to pursue and try take back the cars then that means they can get ahead of Big Alice and as we see in this episode they were able to turn around and go the opposite direction without encountering Big Alice - so there must be at least one other track.

A great cliffhanger. Wilford is obviously going to make people suffer, some lives left hanging in the balance and a big story altering event in splitting the train.

A very surprising and original move to kill off the lead character “off screen”. Makes it seem like more of a loss because we don’t see it. However I suspect that Connelly has not left the show - writers would have made a bigger deal of characters grieving her.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,106 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

I could be wrong here but I think Wilford just joined up all the world's existing train lines and build new ones across seas and oceans or something like that so he could have the train travel around the world. In some areas there are probably multiple routes they can take so to catch up they could just take a different line that goes along a shorter route.

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

I have been thinking since posting and I know why I had “one track” in my head.

Prior to the movie coming out I mistakenly believed that Snowpiercer was super-sized train - not just long but I also thought it much wider than a normal train. Obviously this wasn’t the case in the movie or isn’t in the series but for some reason “one track” is stuck in my head - plus the characters often talk about areas they pass through repeatly - which adds to they idea of “one track”.

what you say makes sense. That Wilford joined up the existing tracks.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I think it's an entirely custom track that was built, given it does some particularly crazy routes like going up over the Arctic circle to cross the Baring sea so it can cross the Pacific, IIRC. It's a huge, superfast train so like the Japanese bullet train would likely necessitate its own track - especially once the world collapsed and had to get going. Otherwise it might have slammed straight into some old world train, running slowly or stuck on the tracks once that country's rail network collapsed.

As to the number, I think there's at least one test track; and again, IIRC, that's what Big Alice was using to sneakily exist behind Snowpiercer's back.

Chiefly though, it's a show that kinda asks you not to think TOO hard on the premise, as it is inherently silly.

I think Oz will either be killed or join Layton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,972 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Well that ended quicker than I expected.

Asha is definitely hiding something or maybe she is straight up bonkers.

    Long live the resistance :)

3.3: Well.. that sure looks set up for

the end of Laytons side and the return of Wilford.. again! A bit of a shoehorn feel to the lie.

That sure was some performance out of Annalise Basso though! Long live the resistance!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Episode 2 and I'm now fully shipping Ruth and Pike ...which is not something I would ever have predicted. Will always give time for any show that tries for a middle-aged romance, being as they're often less melodramatically inclined.

Not much actually happened though, and I'm not sure where I stand with Layton's visions. It'll all be in the execution and just how directed the plot will be by them. Let him be wrong enough that it could all be a coincidence and in his head.

I still chuckle at how Try Hard Till remains, even now. All the swagger and that slightly impractical haircut. At least we don't have the popped collar anymore.

Also, I think I hate LJ more than Wilfred. I don't know how that's possible, but here we are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

3.4: Damn but what a pressence

Jennifer Connelly brings to the show! Even when immaterial!

Hrmmm.. Wilford.. I wonder if he's knocked weaker by this.. or gonna go on the warpath.

Javi has really been done by that dog!

    Oh, and separately

Ruth and Pike gettin their Hole n startin their own Rebellion! 😁

She's come along way from almost losing her arm during the last few episodes

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Episode 3 and the Battlestar comparisons continue with Layton pulling an Adama; a big lie to convince the fleet train to gamble on the unknown. Was expecting the two trains drama to continue for a few more episodes so I'm curious where things go from here; feels like there's only so much push and pull you can have with these 2 factions before things get repetitive.

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

Did Ben & Javi spend the entire 7 years (from departure to Tailie uprising in Season 1 isolated in the engine?

Did anyone know they were in there or did everyone think it was just Wilford?

I’m assuming they did as they and Melanie were the only ones qualified for a lot of work on the train part from the engine but I don’t remember them ever being away from the engine in Season 1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

Also I can remember in season 1 that Josie spoke with an accent - I couldn’t quite place it - but I also remember that there were times when that she didn’t speak with that accent.

Am I confusing her with someone else?

As far as I recall, Josie always had an English accent, though can't be sure who you might be confusing her with. Maybe Zara, given there always has been that love triangle going on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

not confusing her with Zara - and I can’t imagine who I was mixing her up with either.

i think maybe it it more a general confusion related to old age rather than the show itself :p

That's where I watched it today. Was just in my "continue watching" list.

    As for the new episode

I guess Pike just likes to be revolting against something. Of course he also blames Layton for leaving and now taking Ruth from him.

    Did they leave Wilford unguarded?

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

I think genuinely believes that Ruth is the better leader. And the better person.

And I can see his point, Layton pressured Pike into murdering for him (it was murder because Terence didn’t stand a chance). Layton also stole the engine that lead to a death and suffering for a lot of good people.

Ruth may have been a part of that plan and been left behind by mistake but she stepped up asa a leader and kept a lot of people alive.

Ruth may have been on the wrong side and done bad things in the previous 7 years but she is redeeming herself.

If it was just about Layton he would face him. I think it about putting Ruth in power.

Layton, to be perfectly honest, is a bit of a prick at times. He was in charge 5 minutes a and was living in a first class carriage while others are still in the tail.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why he wants to be with Zara. Even taking Josie (the better woman) out of the equation, Zara is an asshole. :p

I’m curious about the reason for sticking him in front of the TV with old cartoons. We don’t see anyone guarding Wilford but it doesn’t mean there isn’t. He can’t do much anyway at the moment. I couldn’t quite make out the meaning of the look on his face though - is he out of it or scheming already?

3.5: Well Lena Hall (Audrey) sure can carry a note.

I'm a bit lost on the motivate that

Pike has to kill Layton. Maybe I've forgotten something from before. It all just seems a bit much from what I do remember.

It all just felt a bit wierd

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭Useless Lump

No I think a Pike vs. Layton situation has been coming since he made Pike kill Terence.

It was dick of a thing to do - should have just killed the guy himself. Or removed him from the position.

What I don’t understand is why anyone who knows New Eden is a lie is going along with Layton? It is completely made up (as far as they know - viewers can assume the visions actually mean something).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,042 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

I'm guessing the final episode of the season will be similar to the ending of the movie

Layton and some others get kicked off the train and see a polar bear and trees etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Interesting, following that could some of them be

The seven people who left the train? I think that the events of the TV show are supposed to be prior to the film, and in the same universe...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,151 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

TNT’s Snowpiercer is, technically, a reimagined version of the 2013 film of the same name directed by Bong Joon-Ho

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I had been a little confused if the TV show was the same universe as the film, but enough seemed different by now I presumed they were separate. Good to have it confirmed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Yup, I'm actually quite happy with the fact they're separate, it makes the future of the series a lot more interesting. I was kind of bummed to think they'd start spending episodes entirely focused on setting up things from the film or referencing them. Which has been a bit of a trend in some other Sci fi series to an annoying extent recently...

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

What made me suspect they were separate was Wilfred, basically. The guy in the show is a Pure Villain, an absolute malicious, manipulative individual. What I vaguely recall from the movie, that Wilfred was something of a detached, deluded creature; less emotional than Sean Bean's snarling version. Living in a weird void, oblivious to the train.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,143 ✭✭✭ilovesmybrick

Yeah, if you were going to pick two actors on the very opposite of the spectrum I think Ed Harris and Sean Bean would definitely rank!
