That is unlucky, I've a similar amount and had 10 wins.

Another 50e today to round off a good year.

€50 for me today. A good start and a good finish to the year helped me to a better than average return of around 0.4%. Two wins in January, three February and two in December. One each in May, June, August, September and November, total 12 x €50. Two of my batches €10K and €18.5K won nothing.

    December count.

03 December 23 million bonds AXQ to AYM inclusive. Total prizes 123, average per million 5.348. Highest AYG 9, lowest AYE 2.

    10 23 m AXS to AYO, 143, 6.217. AYD, AYL 11 each, AXV 1.

    17 24 m AXT to AYQ 164, 6.833. AXV, AXZ, AYQ 11 each, AYI 1.

    23 24 m AXV to AYS 135, 5.625. AYC 10, AYE 1.

    30 23 m AXX to AYT 153, 6.652. AXX, AYS, AYT 9 each, AYD, AYK 3 each.

    117 million bonds won 738 prizes, all €50. Average per million 6.308. x 52 x €50 = €16,400.80. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €262.41. Nearest to 5 x €50.

Yep, finishing a fairly good year in PBs with a double win of 50's from the big batch

According to the PB site I won €2050 from 22 wins on €315.5K, one of which was the €1000

And before anybody says anything, yes I know I can make a better return from investing elsewhere and I do!!

Happy new year to one and all on Boards 😊

I've had 1x€50 win this year on 45k. All going well, I'll be buying a house this summer so I'll be pulling most of it out.

I know that, only the format design changed, the old state image with the harp since 1957 was replaced with the new Fexco design.

Nothing for me today and happy new year to all, total wins in 2021 €250euro.

    Ahem.

You do know you could make a worse return by leaving it sitting in a bank account! :pac:

    Happy New year all.

I got my new bonds from the 30 December 2021 draw. I also won on the first draw of the year 04 January 2021. Taking the difference between the serial numbers, I would put the sales for 2021 at around €665 million. The Annual Report with the figures will be later this year.

Sales in 2020 were €735 million, a record figure. 2019 a "normal" year sales were €537 million.

Didn't realise there was another draw on the 30th dec, thankfully won 50e. Hopefully next year has similar luck.

Nothing for me. The number of €50 prizes in the January draws is 4,373 up from 4,225 in December.

The newest bond to win a prize on 03 December was AYN 265103, newest 07 January AYV 705919, sales of around €52.7 million

I think there is something going on, because those sales should not have produced anything near the 148 increase in €50 prizes. The previous three months were increases of just 26, 25 and 25, with much the same sales.

Last January the number of €50 prizes came down, as it turned out that was part of the recalculation due to the interest rate reduction in February. So this could be an unexpected increase in the interest rate. Because the amount given to big prizes is fixed at the start of the year, and the €50 prizes are recalculated at the start of each month a planed interest rate increase next month or any month would increase the number of €50 prizes in January. Other than that it could be that some of the big prizes money is being redirected to €50 prizes.

    Interesting.

Any thoughts on why they would increase the interest rate so soon after cutting it?

I know there's lots of talk in general about interest rates being increased in the future to combat inflation (BOE have implemented a marginal increase, Fed signalling increases this year, ECB not appearing so quick to increase rates) so perhaps it is in response to that. It doesn't seem to be a response to a decrease in sales as they appear to have increased or held up since the rate cut last year.

That is why I said unexpected. No point in speculating much further, but if the Government has decided that they could do with some more of the massive savings out there, I think they will be increasing the rate for other NTMA products as well. Prize Bonds is only a small amount of the overall.

Up until now their plan has been to restrict savings, which is why we got the €250K cap on the products a few years ago. After 2017 we got used to the idea of the rate being fixed for a number of years, but in the past, rate changes were more frequent.

    2000 2.75%.

    2004 2.4%

    Sept 2007 3%.

    Jan 2012 2.25%

    June 2012 1.75%.

    Dec 2013 1.6%

    Nov 2014 1.25%.

    July 2016 0.85%.

    Aug 2017 0.5%.

    Feb 2021 0.35%.

Uncle of mine won 50k a year or so ago. Hope I can be as lucky with mine. Before I moved my money in I had a large enough sum in BOI. The interest was pitiful. At least with prizebonds I feel there is a chance of a nice surprise.

    Holding & Prizes Summary – 2018 to 2021

    2018 (Jan-Dec) - €200k – 12x€50 = €600

    2019 (Jan- Dec) - €250k – 20x€50 = €1,000

    2020 (Jan- Dec) - €252k – 24x€50 = €1,200

    2021 (Jan- Dec) - €257k – 6x€50 = €300

My holding is comprised of 4no €50k batches and the remainder which is a mix of smaller batches, DD purchases and reinvested winnings and which now totals €57k. All prizes are €50.

As I have done in previous years, I compared the performance of these (roughly) comparable batches

    Batch 1 (€50k)

    2019 - €150

    2020 - €200

    2021 - €0

    Batch 2 (€50k)

    2019 - €300

    2020 - €200

    2021 - €250

    Batch 3 (€50k)

    2019 - €200

    2020 - €350

    2021 - €0

    Batch 4 (€50k)

    2019 - €150

    2020 - €200

    2021 - €0

    Remainder* (€53k)

    2019 - €200

    2020 - €250

    2021 - €50

    Net Return (annualised)

    2019 - 0.40%

    2020 - 0.48%

    2021 – 0.12%

For 2019 and 2020 I was a slightly ahead of the expected return of .35% however the  spread was roughly in line with the expectations in dub_nerd's spreadsheet on AAM

In 2021 things went pear shaped. While the notional interest rate (.35%) has decreased, and with it the expected return when the large prizes are excluded (.22%), the fact that I have 3 x €50k batches with no prizes between them is statistically highly unlikely.

I can only assume that the gross incompetence that An Post/State Savings regularly display in the administration of prize bonds and their other products has now spread to the conduct and administration of the prize draws.
