Jaysus O'Sullivan is a very deep thinker

Another massive Kyren Wilson love in.. this has been going on for four or more years now... he'll never be 'the second coming' .... I dunno what's up with it... Is he the only half decent Englishman/Brit that's under thirty? Well, if it was the case, then it aint no more 😃 He's not got the 'bums on seats' aura about him either.. a mystery to everyone this level of promotion he gets.. maybe they're going for the 'family man' (young man with 2 kids is unusual enough in the snooker world I suppose) angle to 'draw more fans/players to the game' perhaps..

    Anyway..... Gwan The Guv'nor!! 😂

A right good match this.. that red to middle Ronnie missed in last frame wasn't a gimme.. Rarely seen a ball bounce off cushion from so far away from pocket, like the last red Neil potted, and still go in.. Soon as I saw it hit the cushion, I was going "go on Ronnie" ; full sure that it was going to rattle in jaws and stay out 😁

I do wonder sometimes how these players would do if they got transported back to play Joe Davis

Pockets and tables are a bit easy

😁 You remember seeing Joe Davis play??

A different ball game back then... I believe (might be wrong) that if a ball 'left the bed of the table' (think the balls had to remain on the felt, and any bouncing or hopping was against the rules) in them olden times, that it was a foul shot 😲 The speed, and the power the players use nowadays, going by them rules, they'd be fouling left and right... Joe would have had a field day 😆

Got to fancy sullivan after that century

Each time the picture on the hoarding of the snooker players comes up beside the table - I try to guess who the players are from the hairline showing

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

O'Sullivan is looking a bit distracted

I reckon he could go awol

Both Robertson and Ronnie making a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes in this one

Going to be another belter of a day and night isnt it? All plans cancelled.

    ......Didnt really have plans anyway.

Ya'd miss Angles on comms on Eurosport.. He would've said: "Ho ho, Ronnie's got the bit between his teeth now!" , or somesuch 😋 Not so much with Dominic Dale.. Far better than Ken anyway, the both of em 😋

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,627 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Jaysus would the crowd ever manage to sit (still) in their seats for the duration of a frame??? 😡

It's bad enough at a concert, but a snooker match 🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,097 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

London crowd innit. Theyre relatively well behaved these days. They used to be quite nasty to Jimmy and then Ronnies opponents.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Looks like I was wrong , he must have just been fooling around a bit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Another great match 4-4 spoiled so far. Ronnie looks pumped up.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

My money would be on Ronnie to bully himself over the line in this

Was meant for gormdubhgorm's comment/picture above your post Kirk - was a few seconds late in posting it 😁

Neil Robertson far and away the better player. He was miles ahead in all the stats, and bar a few brain farts, the match would have been over much sooner. Even Ronnie will admit the best player won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

Amazed Robertson has not won a lot more given that ability. Really accurate potting bar a few silly ones as you said.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

None of the commentators or Robertson/O’Sullivan mentioned how the fan putting O’Sullivan off had a major impact on the final result.

Tough to call all them matches. Think Ronnie beats Robbo, on account of Ronnie should like playing that kind of player. Like you said S, hard to look past Higgins in that particular encounter with the Welshman.

I reckon I at least have the favourites (bookies) picked anyway 😄 , and, at a guess, I'll try to predict their likely odds.

    Ronnie 4/5

    Higgins 8/11

    Trump 10/11

    Selby 8/13

Will have a look on odds comparison site, and see how close I am 😊

In the other QFs I'll take Trump to edge out Wilson, and, the one I'm least confident about, I fancy a slight upset, with a Hawkins win there... Might do a small accum on the 4..

Fell at the first 😢 😆

Since winning the worlds in 2010 he hasn't really come close since, which is surprising for a player of his talent, compare that to Selby who won it in 2014 2016 2017 2021, Selby also has a total of 9 triple crown wins too putting him level with Higgins, love him or hate him that's the definition of a big game player.

For his talent he has somewhat underachieved in the big ones alright.

Came in to the game at 4-4 and barely caught a glimpse of Ronnie. Robertson is a talented, likeable player. Like others I would have expected more from him over the course of his career, given some of his past wins.

Has to be higgins topnight, but maybe Williams has some special trickery in reserve.. I heard he's been practicing taking shots with his feet, blindfolded while drinking tea... in another room.

Also were the commentators having a bit of craic.. one said 'Neal Foulds a game away from making the semis' and Doherty sneaked a little name change in too 'Rob Robertson' (IIRC).

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭waynescales1

The Ally Pally atmosphere is SO much better than the Crucible. Get the WC out of that little room into a modern venue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

    Leave the Crucible alone now.

The Masters is London and let sleeping dogs lie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭DelBoy Trotter

Can’t believe Williams missed that simple red, and I’d be very surprised if it doesn’t cost him the frame

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,483 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

That door banging could be heard this afternoon as well when Robertson was down on a shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,305 ✭✭✭thefallingman

Some amount of noise from the crowd today it’s not the usual snooker crowd at this venue, I like it the players will have to adapt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭DelBoy Trotter

I’ve heard it all week. It’s been annoying me just watching it on the tv, so I’d surprised if it wasn’t annoying the players

Williams will be annoyed at himself he should really be 4-2 instead of 3-3. left Higgins off the hook.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,138 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

Another decider, Higgins was so incredibly unlucky in the frame before, that in off was so cruel but showed some serious mentality to come back and bring it to a decider.

    Anyone game now.

Hopefully that yellow won him the match!!!

    WHAT!!!!!????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭DelBoy Trotter

What an incredible break in the final frame by Williams to win the match 👏

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,220 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Spectacular from Williams, cool as a cucumber.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,627 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Where were you all watching the end of the match???

I was playing catch-up - had set to record on BBC, but that only lasted an hour so I missed a set... scrambled to get Eurosport recording, was watching a bit behind live on that, and then that recording ended halfway through frame 10 😡

Great match, if only I'd got to see the end of it 🙄

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭Rothko

Brilliant match tonight. The tournament has been great so far. I think the return of the crowd has made a huge difference.

I enjoyed listening to Hendry and Murphy tonight on the BBC. Hendry admitting he couldn't do doubles.

I like to hear Davis sometimes too, he gets so into it in a low key way and offers some good insights.
