    I'd take a guess that something like this might be seen;

    Alisson

    Neco VVD Matip Robbo

    Hendo Fabinho Jones

    Taki Bobby Jota

Maybe Ox in midfield instead of Jones.

With the league games coming up at the weekend, some players will need rhythm after not playing for a while.

The thing is Messi, like Mo deserved that pay.

If other players want that money they have to be that good to earn it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,799 ✭✭✭Enzokk

But its not about what they are worth, it is that if his salary is so much more than everyone else it will raise what everyone else can ask for. You said pay him what he wants, what if he wants £500K per week and it is double our other highest earners? Do you think if VVD gets back to his highest level he should be happy to get half of Mo, when he is arguably just as important to our success? You see the problem with, "pay him what he wants".

There is little doubt Mo occupies a tier which has few occupants, possibly Mbappe, Haaland, Messi, but FSG can’t just give him 4-500k and expect others to just accept that he is a much better player than them. They/their agents will just use that figure as a new set point on which to base their demands. VVD might say that if Mo is worth 400k, he is worth 300k, Robbo 200k, Fab 250k etc. While I want Mo to sign, not at any cost. It is a strange world they occupy when you hear a player say they don’t want anything outlandish, only the 400k (reputed) per week. God I wish I was a footballer instead of a porn star.

    My team tonight:

    Alisson

    Neco - Konate - Matip - Tsimikas

I’m not so sure. You are talking about a pretty small bunch who could afford those wages, PSG and RM are the two obvious ones. RM are talking about one, possibly two from Mbappe and Haaland, PSG have Messi playing in the same position so would either of those take him? Barca don’t have the money, Munich will not pay those wages, Newcastle might but he isn’t going there, I doubt City would take him so Mo’s options are fairly limited. I suppose if Messi went back to Barca for a swan song in 2024 there may be an opening at PSG but that is a risk to take for Mo.

The Liverpool team is built for Mo to thrive, solid midfield, a right back who consistently gets the ball to him quickly and precisely, he must appreciate that he may not get that at RM and PSG as Messi is now finding. At RM Vicinius is turning into a cracking player so they don’t really need Mo if they get one/both of those strikers.

Another way of looking at it though is if we don't agree a contract with Mo, he is likely to run his contract down in 2023. At that stage I reckon PSG could meet his wages as there is a good chance Messi and/or Mbappe could be gone. On top of that Liverpool recoup nothing to try replacing the best player in the world. If his demands are in the realm of putting him among the best paid in the league rather than Messi level wages then I think the club should agree it. Other things to consider is that by 2023 we could be facing in to a squad overhaul and the last things we would need is the best player in the club walking away for nothing at the same time.

Some would argue, and I would share the opinion, that Mane has become replaceable and probably won't be in a position to demand a big money contract also.

It will be interesting to see if Messi is in the running for another BD this year. I think the French league is a joke, unless PSG win the CL there is no hope of any of there players challenging for the Worlds best status. Messi isn’t pulling up trees and even though Mbappe has been fantastic for a couple of years, he hasn’t really been challenging Messi/Ron. I just don’t see Mo being content to win French League medals for the next 5 yrs. PSG is a joke club more suited to the likes of Neymar and Pogba than it is players with high ambition. Would Messi have gone there if Barca weren’t such a basket case? I doubt it.

Neco to be pished up right wing if required, either late on or if someone gets injured.

  • Registered Users Posts: 548 ✭✭✭BillyHasMates

I agree the French league is a joke and PSG is a basket case club but it hasn't stopped them attracting top talent. In Messi's case I don't think he would have left for any club, not just PSG, if Barca didn't run in to financial difficulty. Madrid could also be an option for Salah. He is more likely to win the BD at Madrid than PSG and if he is being honest in his interviews that what he is looking for is not crazy money and likely to be in the realm of £350k to £400k a week then Madrid could surely afford him.

Salah's interviews this season has put pressure on the club. He says he wants to stay and is happy at the club, that he wants what he feels he is worth but nothing 'crazy.' Salah knows his worth and he knows the fans, media and other top clubs also do. This is a test of the owners intentions. I don't see any logical football reason for not offering Salah a contract he will sign since many believe he is irreplaceable, that if he was to go we wouldn't get the money for him that he is worth and that if he could be replaced it would cost a fortune and would require bringing in more than one player to replace his contributions.

If Mbappe and/or Haaland join RM, There will be 3-4 players in the same team, including the rapidly improving Vicinius who will all covet the ball, all fighting to be the main man, all wanting to score. If RM were bidding for Mo and planning to build a team around him like they did with Ronaldo, I could see him rising further in status, but that will not be the case.

    LFC team v Arsenal:

Alisson, Trent, Matip, Virgil, Robertson, Fabinho, Milner, Hendo, Minamino, Firmino, Jota

  • Registered Users Posts: 548 ✭✭✭BillyHasMates

It is all guess work right now and full of if's and but's but I certainly wouldn't rule Madrid out, particularly if Salah runs his contract down. We will just have to wait and see. My hope is that any of this talk is completely irrelevant and he signs a contract.

So the leaked team was correct. Looks to be as strong a team as we can put out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

Good to see the strongest team put out. Really want to win this cup now and this team could do with adding a few more trophies to it's haul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,580 ✭✭✭✭Riesen_Meal

Not a bad team out there, seems he is going all in what he's got...

Same midfield as Chelsea I think?

Let’s hope Xhaka doesn’t break anyone leg tonight.

Good team way stronger than I expected. WHo needs Salah.

Since we are full strength it would be lovely if we could steamroll through Arsenal before half time, like old/recent times against them. Feels like a while since we have had one of those great performances.

Shame Kelleher didn't keep his place.

Think Martinez faked an injury there after the tackle on Virgil, dont think he wanted to face up to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,296 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Didn't touch the ball just cleaned out Jota, seems again its fair game to foul Liverpool players

I know he's a decent footballer, but I doubt he can sort Covid out

    Minamino is looking lively

We need to score when we are on top like this,

Be great if Taki gets one for confidence

That's been us in every match this season. Have to score and make the domination count

Hah, you can always count on xhaka

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,694 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Xhaka has to be the worst player in the league. He simply cannot tackle without doing something stupid.

    Red card all night long

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,296 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

How can he complain about that red card lol

Had two looks at Jota before throwing a boot in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭facehugger99

    Hilarious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,490 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Ref sending off the player, not the offense. His foot and the ball hit Jota's chest at same time. Bad challenge, but not sinister.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭facehugger99

    Finish the tie tonight hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,490 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

I dunno, he did go for ball, it was on Jota's chest when he kicked it, or tried to. But yea, awful defending, no need to do that.

Was that a corner routine from us, that was so drawn out and funny, yet looked on purpose 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭facehugger99

5th red for Xhaka since joining Arsenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

He's last man and Jota would need to take a great quick touch to get it under control and out in front of him with Ramsdale's position and the flight of the ball. Xhaka just always makes the wrong and rash decision. You get back and try close Jota after the touch and trust your keeper. He's an idiot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,107 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Robbo keeps taking an extra touch in attacking positions. Giving Arsenal a chance to reset while defending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

Robbo & Trent not playing well so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

    I’d like a shot on goal please…

Matip is our most attacking outlet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

I haven’t heard Jotas name mentioned aside from the red card incident

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Id bring Tsimakas on for Robbo and Ox for Milner

    Robbo taking to many touches

Ox can shoot and we needs shots

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

    Set piece delivery is awful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,107 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Agree with both. Definitely Ox for Milner for a start
