Very strong Leinster selection - and a very physical pack - so a great challenge for them. Good to see Joe McCarthy playing, he was a big loss to last year's u20 team, think he has great promise. Is anyone at the game and able to comment on the score / who is playing well etc?

Is there not the same number of players in each squad? Way more names in the French than the English...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,106 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

No. Nothing stopping any country naming as many as they like in extended squads.

France Squad will be further reduced

France have named a squad of 45 players to prepare for the Under-20s Six Nations and a training camp in Marcoussis.

The squad, which features the likes of back-rower Théo Ntamack, younger brother of Romain, and Hugo Auradou, whose father David was a mainstay in the French teams of the 1990s, will spend four days in camp.

The coaching staff will then reduce the squad to 26 for a second camp in Aubagne before heading to Mont-de-Marsan for the opening game of the Championship against Italy.

Richie Murphy has mentioned a Squad of 32 players in his last interview.

    (34 last year)

I imagine we should hear any day now.

I know. i said it was extended squads where coaches can name what they like. But 6 nations doesnt say a max number for a training squad unlike for world cup where there is a max limit...

Ah Fair enough. 32 a bit on tight side considering last couple of years I’m of 34 + named and especially with run of injuries leading up to opening U20’s games last June would if expected a few more?

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

players can always be called in if there is injuries, its not a hard and set squad.

Maybe I should have qualified that. It will be interesting up to a point. Given his relative inexperience at this stage, up against Ringrose. If he doesn’t do well, it will tell us very little. If he looks stellar, then maybe it will.

assume your talking about Martin? yep it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Squad not being announced until Friday the 28th.

  • Registered Users Posts: 201 ✭✭ljsulster

Makes sense as there’s another camp from the 25th. Expect 36/37 at that and then cut down to 32-34 for main squad announcement

Watched Ballymena v University of Limerick Bohs yesterday. Very entertaining. Ballymena started x7 u20.

    1. MAWHINNEY u20
    2. McCormick u20
    3. x
    4. Browne u19
    5. x
    6. McNabney u19
    7. Lamont u20 (capt)
    8. x
    9. Wright u19
    10. Mckay u19

Was no match programme to get UL Bohs team sheet. 15 was good when he went to 10 and looked young.

Noticed Malone had X2 u20 start last week. 2nd row and 8.

Armagh had 2nd row and 13 last week. Haven’t seen their team sheets yet.

Great to see young players involved.

Will try to watch Malone v Armagh in 1B next week.
