Can anyone please advise me of the best online way of accessing Thoms Directories for Dublin ?

If you’re subscribed to Ancestry they cover about a hundred years worth up 1946.

Thanks Hermy. I used to be subscribed to Ancestry but then let it lapse. I've done a free trial recently but it appears to me that their website is much more difficult to navigate now - is it, or am I just out of practice?

The pdfs for a selection years are online but you have to navigate by changing the url to go back or forward more than one page. For example, you would change the 1563 to 1410 would get you back into the 'F' streets. It is tedious, but better than nothing.

AskAboutIreland have patchy years until 1986 (with an annoying 1943-1965 gap) but some of them are unindexed so you need to basically guess the URL format and then do the page number editing that spurious explains above.

Forgot to say that I have 2012 digitally but its... a bit useless really. The residential listings are generally donkeys years out of date because they used the old electoral register for this. The person who sold my house in 2003 is listed as owner still!

Thanks everyone - I'm interested in 2 houses on Avoca Avenue Blackrock, Dublin 1913-1915. One is called Dal Riada and the other is No.3, occupied in 1911 census by James Ferrier Pollock.

I know Tallaght Library has a lot of them on shelves. I don't know if they are letting anyone in yet as I haven't been back there for a long time. Also Dublin City Library in Pearse Street.

OK, so in that time period Blackrock streets will be listed under Blackrock town at the end of the main Dublin area - it was an independent UDC at that stage before becoming part of Dun Laoghaire Corporation. Thoms kept some of the old township listings til the 1960s despite the mergers to either Dublin and Dun Laoghaire being in the 30s!

Here it is in 1912 and then 1921, the only years in that time period on AAI. Thoms always lagged a bit in getting updated.

Going by the Wikipedia page the last printed edition may have been in 2012.
