Getting a critical illness insurance payout while on Disability allowance

I have been on disability allowance for a few months now after having cancer and having mobility problems, I claimed on life insurance critical illness cover and last week got word that I have been awarded E45,000, do I have to contact Social Welfare and tell them about this money, and will my disablity allowance be stopped. Thanks for any advice.

Can’t see why you need to tell them so just say nothing.

Yes you need to inform them of any change in circumstances. The first €50,000 of funds in the bank is not taken into account for the means test for DA. Its really a very generous payment to be on.

You've absolutely nothing to be concerned about, the amount awarded is below the threshold of available funds re means testing OP.

I certainly would recommend you advise the department, they'll possibly request proof of funds etc, so have details of the award etc available.

As others have said, to avoid a future suspension of your payment, drop a line to the DA section with evidence of the source of the lump sum and of course the amount. €45000 won’t affect your payment.
