my team is too strong not to take a BP you're right

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

He's a lucky man in fairness.

Congrats to Mack and Cian. The latter as the only development player brought in is a nice nod of approval.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,153 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

But let's be honest, as good as Prendergast is, he doesn't add as much to a team, pound for pound, as a Nathan Doak, who most definitely should be a development player in this squad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,982 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Can we please just celebrate the achievement of an excellent young player without comparing him negatively to someone who plays a completely different position and making utterly baseless assertions about "pound for pound value", whatever the hell that means, thanks.

    Well done Prendergast, well deserved.

Absolutely no idea how or why there would be any reference to Doak in regards to this selection.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

Doak isn't a Connacht player so I can't say it's gonna keep me up all night with worry that he missed out on development squad. His time will come.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

*Connacht fans express their happiness at a Connacht player making and Ireland squad on a Connacht thread

Labre - "Yeah but this guy at Ulster...."

But chuffed for Prendergast. Proper old-school six. 6'5, uncompromising, good carrier and good lineout jumper.

With insights like that heaslip should consider starting a podcast or something....

Doak would be 3rd choice at Connacht. Prendergast is already a starter and will take POM position in the squad in time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Marmion got screwed over again. Disgraceful he has not been picked. I believe Sexton has a big say on who plays 9, Cooney stated something along them lines before

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

    Master Of None Podcast

By all accounts the Connacht team that will be named today will be young and inexperienced due to unforeseen circumstances. Not ideal but still a great opportunity for youngsters to shine and for Andy Friend to see what he has

So yeaaaaah the team will be closer to my picks than your wish

Happy to avoid Leinster and give young guys gametime

Crazy to think this is only prendergasts 20th game. Looks like a seasoned pro

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,535 ✭✭✭FACECUTTR

Big test for the 4 props. Backline looks potent. Excited to see Arnold and Farrell. Its gonna be a fast paced spectacle.

  • 21 caps between the starting props and 2 debutant props on the bench has got to be a worry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 755 ✭✭✭Zeugnis

If I'm not mistaken, Sam Illo and Charlie Ward are making their senior debuts... in the European Championship! Greg McGrath, on the other hand has just six minutes of URC rugby for Connacht under his belt :)

Excited to see these guys cut their teeth. And for once I can say: If we don't win, well never mind...

Who are we most likely to play in next round now? I love was bristol, excuse to go back. Had my stag there, great city

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,809 ✭✭✭b.gud

According to this spreadsheet by RugbyKino on Twitter, pre filled with results from Rugby4Cast on Twitter we will most likely be playing away to Leinster. I messed around with a few scorelines and the only change I could get was if Leinster didn't get a BP victory in which case we'd play Exeter

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

  • Registered Users Posts: 374 ✭✭dockysher

Oh, I taut it was only if we got 5 points on Sunday we be playing Leinster.

    Oh well, thanks guys 👍

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

    Bordeaux will be canceled too

We need to lose to avoid Leinster

Or trust either Glasgow or Clermont to win. Nothing done yet

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,862 ✭✭✭Redo91

Any way we can get La Rochelle? Would be a great trip!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,965 ✭✭✭connachta

    Yes quite likely

Glasgow have to prevent them from taking 5 and they'll finish 4th to face us (if they lose, it may be Exeter too)

Stade can leapfrog Cardiff if they win by more than 5 with a try bonus so they're likely to be well up for it on Sunday.....
